"I'm obviously not going to go out of my way to meet a guy that people are practically linking me with already. I haven't even seen his face." I said rummaging through my bag. "I'm going to be late for work at the cafe. Are you coming with me to get your free cup of coffee?" I asked her and she sighed and then smiled. "Of course! That's the only perk my best friend working at a coffee shop has given me."

 

"Yah, Yah. I make money and I treat you to food all the time." I said and she laughed. "That too." she chimed and we walked out of the side exit of the school. "It think it will be faster if we cut through the basketball court." she said pointing to the mostly empty court. There were a total of four baskets and there was only one occupied by seven guys. They were playfully yelling at each other as Ji Hae and I got closer. One of the guys dodged another with a quick turn and did a tight lay up, and the ball went straight into the basket.

 

"I call foul." one of the guys said grumpily. The guy who did the lay up, dribbled the ball. "You always say that when I make a basket." he laughed. "Blah." one of the younger looking ones said and gave him a merong and he tossed the ball in his hands at him. But he ducked and the next thing I knew I was falling back.

 

"Aish." I grabbed my head. Someone was next to me in the next instant. And judging by the lack of the familiar smell of Ji Hae's perfume, it was someone else. "I'm so sorry. Neomu mianhae!" the guy said. But my eyes were still closed trying to tame the pain. I finally opened them to see the guy who threw the ball. He was better looking up close. But he was sweaty from basketball and I had the urge to wrinkle my nose a little.

 

"Hyung, how could you hit a girl!" the younger said. "Ah jinja, why did you duck Jungkook?"

"Well I wasn't going to get hit." he grumbled but he looked at me apologetically.

"Let me help you up." He grabbed my arm firmly but gently and helped me to my feet. Ji Hae was blinking at the whole situation and I gave her a bland look.

 

"Do you need to go to the infirmary? I'll walk you. I'm really sorry." he kept saying. The throbbing was gone. He threw the ball pretty hard but at least it didn't hit me straight in the face.

"Aniyo, I'm okay. I have to get to work." I pulled my arm out of his hand gently. "Come on Ji Hae." and I gestured for her to snap out of it and follow me. I rubbed my temple as we walked to the cafe.

 

"You're usually so talkative. Not going to tease me about my head being a ball magnet?" I asked nudging her. She giggled and I gave her the "you're crazy" look. "Do you know what that was?" she asked. "Nope. But since they hang out in a group of seven. Are they the new students that transferred in like two months back?" I asked. I wasn't one for school gossip so I wasn't too clear on the schools' latest news. 

 

"Yeah BTS, they're really popular. And that was Yoon Gi, the guy I was talking about." she said. "Oh him…." I blinked. He was good looking and all but I was kind of sick of my friends at school matching me with a stranger.

"We're not alike!" I said as we neared my workplace. "You haven't even talked to him. He was a gentleman, helping you." JI Hae said.

 

"He knocked me in the head first." I gave a short laugh. "Aigoo, you really don't like guys?" Ji Hae joked and I elbowed her. "I'm going to strangle you one day." I said and she laughed. "You love me too much." and after I got behind the counter, I started pulling shots and made her a caramel machiatto.

-----------Next Day-------------

I rested my chin on my hand as I waited for class to start. Ji Hae was going on about how she was up all night finish her music project. "I told you not to procrastinate." and she gave me a pouty look. Then our English teach Mr. Lee walked in. "Good Morning Students. Mrs. Song is out for the week so her class is getting distributed to the other classes for now." and BTS filed in. They introduced themselves and bowed politely before taking the empty seats in the back. 

 

I didn't realize it but I made eye contact with Min Yoon Gi. He gave me a small smile and I felt the urge to look away, suddenly shy.

 

I hope he didn't hear any of the nonsense being spouted by my friends about how we should go out because we had similar personalities. 

 

My friend Kibum came over during our break. "See Hana, now you guys are even in the same class." he was one of the people telling me about how we would make a cute couple. I was annoyed everything thought I was unhappy about being single and needed a boyfriend.

 

"I think he smiled at you." Ji Hae said slinging her arm around Kibum's shoulders as they gave each other a high five. That was it. I stood up. "Okay. Let me get this straight guys. I'm not going to date him. I barely know BTS. And I basically met him because he socked me in the head with a basketball. Jesus Christ. Do I have to say I hate him for you guys to back off. I'm pretty sure he probably has a girlfriend already." and I turned my head back to look at BTS was talking among themselves before this and my eyes locked with his immediately. His eyes were sad and withdrawn and he looked away first. I suddenly felt a pang of guilt. Maybe i shouldn't have said that in front of him….

 

"Arraseo." Ji Hae said putting her hands on my shoulders to calm me down and got me to sit down before the teacher came back inside.

 

I was uncomfortable after that. I felt like someone's eyes were on me and I felt bad about what I said. But I couldn't take it back…

 

Turned out BTS was going to be in our music class today. "Class, I want you to hear the composition the guys came up with. The music department is so glad to have them at the school." our teacher clapped with a smile and then they stepped to the front and the guy name Nam Joon smiled and introduced that they were going to sing "Coffee."

 

The tune was really sweet and the young one name Jungkook had a really nice voice. Then I felt my heart flutter when Yoon Gi started rapping because his eyes met mine again. But he dropped them right away and finished rapping. I realized I had seen him before. I remembered his face one time, when i was working at the expresso machine but that day was really busy so i had barely had time to look up. I remembered I looked up when he ordered because he had a distinct deep voice. He got the caramel machiatto.

 

His voice definitely suited him even more after hearing him rap. But I couldn't help but think that his rap had a tone of sadness that shouldn't have been there. After class ended, BTS left and I didn't see them for the rest of the day.

 

Laying in my bed the night of, I knew I had to apologize some how. I decided I was going to say sorry the next day.

But he wasn't in school. I even went to ask one of the members if he was in school. They shook their heads and I didn't pry so I left them. But I started getting a little uneasy when it was his third day absent.

 

I went to find Jungkook again. He was eating lunch with the rest of the members. They greeted me. "Is Yoon Gi-sshi okay?" I asked.

 

"Ah…Ne. Hyung is okay." he replied hesitantly. "If you call okay, moping around the house." Tae hyung grumbled.

I blinked. "Oh…" I started to take a step back when Jimin got up to stop me. "Hana-sshi. If you don't mind. Could you come by to see hyung after school today? It might sound kind of weird but he's not in school because of you." he said and I was taken aback. "Me?" I asked. And the members nodded in unison. "Ah…Ne. I'll go with you guys after school. But Ji Hae is probably coming too." I said.

"We'll meet you by the gate." they said and I walked back to finish my lunch.

 

After school, true to their word they were waiting and we walked in a slightly awkward silence to the bus to get to their house.

 

"Oh you guys are home." a male voice greeted us when they keyed in the code to unlock the door. Ji Hae nudged me forward and I took off my shoes and my eyes met his when I lifted up my head. "Annyeong." I said and he was surprised to see me and he looked troubled, tired and sad. But he found the strength to glare at s.

 

"I wanted to come see you." I interrupted. Then his facial expression softened when his attention came back to me. "I wanted to say I was sorry for about what I said in class. I didn't mean to be so harsh." I bowed my head.

"We'll go now." I said and grabbed Ji Hae's arm, who was looking around the guy's dorm with wonder.

 

"Hyung!" I heard Taehyung whine slightly. "Just spit it out." Seokjin said.

Then I felt a warm hand grab my wrist and I turned around to see it was Yoon Gi.

 

"Ah…" I said blinking like a dear in headlights.

"Apology accepted." he said and then he took a second to take a deep breath. "Did you mean it when you said you would never go out with me?" he asked.

"Huh…?" I said still in a daze of confusion. "Because after the first time I saw you in the coffee shop, I couldn't get you out of my head." he said.

 

"Yoon Gi-sshi…" I said feeling my cheeks heat up. 

"I heard what others have been saying about how they think we would make a cute couple and all that, and I don't really care what they are saying, but you heard the lyrics to the song right? I really want you to be my caramel machiatto, because I like you a lot." he said. Then he smiled and it was one of the sweetest things I had seen in a while. "Will you give me a chance?"

 

"Oh I'm so nervous." he said under his breath.

I looked at Ji Hae and she had her hands on her hips expectantly. The guys were smiling and patting each other on the back.

 

I felt a smile tug at my lips. "That was a very corny confession." I let my mouth relax into a smile. "But yes." and his eyes widened. Then he hugged me and I found myself laughing softly. "A long as you promise not to hit me in the head with a basketball and to show me more of your rap." I said and he laughed. "For you? Anything to make you happy."

 

"But, I'm actually really good at handling the basketball." he added chuckling.
