Journey
LovesickDark grey clouds masked the morning sky. The brunette boy's breath fogged up the window of the train and he lazily drew syllables onto the pane.
His finger moved on auto-pilot, writing down lines and circles of a name. His name.
He didn't speak his name out loud for a while and when he carefully mouthed the two words, it felt unfamiliar and somewhat awkward. In a rush, he wiped away the words and blankly stared out of the window again.
Ironically, that day looked so much like the one day that was supposed to be their last. It was almost mocking him. The only difference was, that in fact they would be meeting again today. There was no way around it.
How much had he changed? Would he even recognize him? And mostly: Would he even want to see him again?
Almost five months had passed. Five long months that he needed to man up and gather enough courage to go his own way.
The closer he got to his destination, the more nervous he became.
Tress rushed past the window in a high speed and the blurry vision did nothing to calm down his nerves.
First, he had tried to follow the figures outside but it only made him feel dizzy, so he withdrew his attention again and closed his eyes.
He sighed exaggeratedly and leaned back into his seat, his dry lips. His hands fished in his pockets in an attempt to find his chapstick, but it was fruitless.
It was September already and he would need it very soon, he decided to buy a new one as soon as possible.
He ruffled his brown locks, wondering again how much he had changed in these few months.
Did his hair still have that shiny hazelnut brown colour that matched his own one perfectly?
Actually, it didn't really matter because he was sure that he would still be just as beautiful, if not even more than he had already been before.
Unwillingly his mind travelled back, revisiting the days he had spent with him once again.
The first kiss they had shared, which had even been his first kiss in general. A lot more kisses had followed after the first one, just as shy and hesitant.
He could tell that the other had been just as inexperienced, a fact that had put his possessive nature at ease back then.
Did he gain some experience in the meantime?
Another bittersweet memory was the protective hold of that boy. The way his slender arms had felt so warm and comfortable, the embrace that he missed so much.
If he was honest to himself, he simply missed everything about him. He had tried to move on desperately after their unfortunate parting, but it was simply impossible for him to forget.
That boy had invaded every single part of his mind and stubbornly refused to release him from his suffering. And he had suffered a lot.
Not only did he have to fight his own stupid mind, but all the people who had tried to interfere and dictate him how to think and how to feel.
It was unnecessary to say that they all had failed. No matter how much his friends had told him to forget and move on, it didn’t help.
He knew that they only wanted to help him after his object of desire had denied any kind of contact. The past few months, but the impact the boy had made on him as too big to just forget.
The chances were slim, he was aware of this fact but maybe if he showed his determination and sincerity, the boy would at least want to talk about what had happened.
He was being selfish and he knew that just as much, but everything was allowed when it came to love and war, wasn’t it?
His friend had given him a piece of their minds about not letting go but they were able to go the easy way and they didn’t understand.
They had had the insurance to meet their lovers again and in the end, he had just shrugged it off, thinking that they would never understand how he felt.
The other people that had tried to urge him to forget about his crush were his parents. Of course his parents had disapproved. He much rather avoided thinking about them before the anger would take over him.
He had made it that far and there was no turning back now. Just a few more miles until he would be breathing the same air as him again.
If everything would be going as he had planned or much rather hoped, he would be lying in his arms before the day went by.
But he knew it wouldn’t be that easy and he was willing to do whatever he had to, if it meant he could win him back.
He would wait how ever long the boy needed, and even if the other would reject him at first, he would happily accept his friendship if he had to, and make that beautiful boy fall in love with him once again.
That sounded like a good plan.
One thing was sure: he needed some kind of interaction with him.
It still felt unreal that he was going all this way into an unknown city, he was lucky and presented with the chance of a lifetime and he was grateful.
Of course, his parents had disapproved and still did, but it was his education after all and after a few hours of pleading they had finally given in.
A female voice announced that they would be arriving at the next station in a few minutes.
Finally, he thought and got up from his seat to gather all of his belongings, a large suitcase and a backpack.
Once he had settled, he would go on a huge shopping tour, that’s why he had decided to not pack too much.
When the train abruptly stopped, he almost lost his balance and cursed inwardly. He just managed to grab one of the handles hanging down from the ceiling to keep himself up.
Cold air blew into his face, making him shiver. He took a black beanie out of his backpack and put it carefully on his head.
After his backpack was snugly placed on his back again, he buttoned up the cardigan to shield himself from the cold.
It was his cardigan but it had lost his smell a long while ago. But wearing that piece of cloth had always managed to give him comfort, especially when he was going through the most difficult time of his life up to now.
He intended to give it back to him though, and the warming sleeves would hopefully be replaced by the arms of its owner again soon.
Even though the environment was unfamiliar, he found his destination rather quickly.
It was officially the first day of the new school year and the place was crowded with young people.
Maybe his surprise entrance wasn’t such a good idea after all.
After what felt like hours, he finally caught a glimpse of a familiar figure. His hair was blonde now, but he would recognize that face everywhere.
Hesitantly, he approached the young man, tapping him on the shoulder once he was within reach.
“Daehyun, what a lovely surprise,” Himchan uttered completely unfazed.
