VIII. One Shot

On A Rainy Day
I never imagined myself to be falling for a simple guy such as Bang Yongguk, never. I've always imagined myself to be falling for a doctor, or maybe a musician, someone that didn't look, nor acted, like Yongguk. People that have seen him have told me he looked like a gangster, someone who would do harmful things to me or to the people I love--I didn't believe them. How could someone as sweet as him bring harm? His sweet gummy smile, the failing aegyo he tried to do to cheer up his dongsaengs. He was someone I could speak about anything freely, almost like a best friend. But whenever he was around me, I couldn't help but smile and feel my heart begin to accelerate. It was something I've never experience in my life, and it made me feel happy whenever I experienced it with Yongguk.

"Mone ssi," I shook my head, looking up at the voice who called my name. Jinae unnie chuckled, taking a seat in front of me with a small pile of papers in her hand.

"Oh, annyeong," I bowed my head, greeting her with a smile. "Mianhamnidaunnie, I wasn't paying attention." I was thankful that she aloud me to be informal with her during work, otherwise I would have been in trouble. Of course, that was only when we were alone.

"Who is he?" she immediately asked. "I know you wouldn't be slacking from work if you weren't thinking of someone. Tell me, who's the lucky guy?"

"Unnie," I laughed. "It's no one. I was just thinking. I'm sorry for slacking, I should get back to work." I stood from the chair and bowed, turning to go towards the doctor that I would be helping. Doctor Lee Kang Hoon requested me, other than Jinae unnie, in helping him with the patients that he operated on. Of course, I was delighted that he would chose me, out of the many other doctors in the hospital, to help him. I walked inside the room where an elderly man resided, and smiled at him.

"Annyeong, Doctor Jung," he smiled. He was an older gentleman in his late forties; he was brought to the hospital two days past, from a hit an run accident. A fractured skull, a fractured rib, a broken leg and a few scratches along his body. Other than that, he was completely okay.

"Annyeonghaseyo, Choi Kyeong Duk ssi," I smiled at him, walking over to the heart monitor. "How do you feel today?"

"I feel great!" he chuckled. "My son is coming over after work and bringing me some food, would you like to accompany us? He's a great young man." I wrote down the things in the heart monitor, peeking a glance at the smiling gentleman. It was one of the things the older people tried to do a lot whenever I would come to their room , try to set me up on a date with their son or a grandson.

"Mianhamnida, Kyeong Duk ssi," I bowed my head. "I have another engagement I need to attend after work, how about another day?" I bowed once again and walked out of the room, making my way to Doctor Lee's office. I knocked once, and immediately walked in to see him on his desk. Doctor Lee Kang Hoon was an attractive man; he was in his early thirties and looked like he was about twenty-five. Most of the woman that were attended by him said that he was attractive enough to look like a K-POP idol, and others said that he would be an amazing actor/model.

"Ah, Mone ssi," Doctor Lee said as he looked up from his papers. "Did you do what I asked you to do?" I smiled and nodded, walking over to him and laying the papers besides the others.

"I checked Choi Kyeong Duk a few minutes ago, so I'm sorry that I wasn't here earlier," I bowed my upper body, apologizing once again before taking a seat in front of his desk. "Miss Kang Da Young was asking for you to check her once again; I tried doing it myself, but she specifically demanded for you. Oh, there's an idol in room 804 that wants you to be his doctor, well the CEO of his company, and the manager, told me to tell you that."  I looked up and nodded, crossing my right leg over the left one. "I also checked on the little girl you operated on yesterday, La Hyeon Jeong; she's doing well, although I recommend on giving her a bit more morphine when she wakes up so the wound won't give her a lot of pain."

"Kansahamnida," Doctor Lee smiled. "I knew I could count on you." He went back to the paperwork, and I stood up. I fixed the white coat and began to walk out of the room. "Jung Mone ssi." I stopped, turning my head to look at Doctor Lee.

"De?" I closed the door once again, taking a step in. Doctor Lee stood up, and walked over to me. The dark blue dress shirt he wore over the long white coat hugged his broad chest perfectly, something I wasn't aware of since I always worked with him with a patient or with another doctor. He was attractive, and I would be stupid to deny it.

"I was wondering if you would like to go to dinner tonight?" he looked up from his hands and smiled. "As colleagues, of course."

"Doctor Lee," I began, running a hand through my hair. "er, um, I don't think it'll be-" The loud ringing of my phone thankfully saved me. I held up my finger as I fished up for the phone in my pocket. 'Choi Jun Hong' flashed across the screen, making me bite my lower lip. "Excuse me, I have to answer this call." I turned around, walking towards the plant he had at the other side of his room. "Yoboseyo?"

"Noona!" he yelled. "Noona, you need to come to the apartment now. Please." he kept pleading.

"Junhong ah," I breathed. "ya, what's the problem?"

"Bring one of those sewing kits from the hospital," he pleaded once again.

"Ya!" I hissed. "Tell me what's the problem so I can bring the things that I need." I whispered the last few things, looking back at Doctor Lee who was patiently waiting for my answer.

"Yongguk hyung," he began. "he got shot."

"Bwoh?!" I yelled, straightening myself up. I lowered my voice then, hoping that Dr. Lee wouldn't have heard me. "What do you mean he got shot?! Junhong ah, tell me what happened."

"Noona," he cried once again. His voice sounded distressed, obviously telling me that he wanted me over as soon as possible. "Please, hurry. I think hyung is losing a lot of blood."

"Arasseo," I breathed. "I'll be there as soon as I can. Apply pressure to the wound with a warm towel, okay? I'll be there as soon as I can. Have Youngjae wait for me in the parking lot." I ended the call and turned around to see Doctor Lee smiling at me. "Mianhamnida, Doctor Lee, an emergency happened at home and I need to hurry up." I ran out of the room as fast as I could, going towards Jinae's office and grabbing my bag and letting the white coat rest in the chair. I immediately went towards the supply closet, grabbing everything that I would need to help Yongguk. My mind raced, Yongguk being involved in every single thought. Would he be alright? Would I be there too late? Could I save him?

I drove the car towards the parking lot, immediately turning it off once I parked. Youngjae ran over to me, a tear stricken face surprising me. He hugged me immediately, letting me feel the shaking of his body.

"Noona," he whimpered. I pressed a hand on top of his head, biting my lower lip.

"Gwaenchana?" I asked, biting my lower lip. "Is Yongguk the only one hurt?" He nodded, sniffing against my shirt. I pulled away and smiled at him, wiping away the free tears that fell from his eyes. "He'll be alright. Come on," I picked up my bag and jogged towards the elevator, Youngjae following right behind me. I noticed the dried blood on his hand; my stomach immediately decided to get sick. It wasn't because of the blood, it was because it was Yongguk's blood and I was terrified that I couldn't save him. Once the doors opened, Youngjae pulled me along towards the room. When the door open, I gasped. Yongguk was laying face down on the floor, a hole on his leather jacket and blood around him. The rest of the boys were all around him, Junhong pressing the towel on the groaning Yongguk.

"Noona," he cried once he saw me. "Save him, noona, please save him." I nodded, moving as fast as I could towards Yongguk. Jongup took Junhong, pulling him out of the room. I immediately got to work. With a pair of scissors, I cut his jacket and shirt, biting my lower lip as his toned back came into view. The bullet hole surprised me the most -  instead of one hole, there were two.

"He lost a lot of blood," I muttered. "Youngjae, Himchan, go to my car and bring me the IV, also the small cooler. Daehyun, bring the heart monitor. Jongup, take Junhong to the room."

"I want to help," he yelled as Jongup pulled him. I looked up, meeting with his eyes. Desperation, it was all I could see. I nodded, and took everything I needed from my bag.

"Did anyone take the bullets out?" I asked. A faint 'no' caught me by surprise, and I couldn't help but smile. "Oppa, it'll hurt." I began to slowly take the bullets out, hearing a strong hiss from underneath me. "Junghong ah, give me the small bottle with the needle."

"What is it?" he asked, handing me the things I asked.

"Anticoagulants," I answered, injecting the needle on top of the wound. "In other words, it prevents the clogging of the blood meanwhile I help the wound." I smiled over at him, and kept on working. The groaning fro Yongguk made me cringe, and also work harder. I wanted to save him; I wanted to do whatever I could for him. I wanted him to be completely okay.

After an hour and a half of cleaning and closing the wound, Yongguk was no resting on his bed. The IV was hooked to hos arm, O- blood slowly going through his veins. His pale face had a bit of color, making me feel better. I had to take off the clothes that I had before since they were completely covered in blood from the small operation. Himchan gave me one of his long sleeved shirts, which thankfully fit okay.

I walked in to Yongguk's room, watching Junhong lay a small towel with warm water on top of his head. It surprised me to see him taking care of his hyung with a smile on his face, and I couldn't help but smile at him.
"Has he woken up?" I asked him. Junhong looked up at me and shook his head, standing from besides his bead. I smiled at him, wrapping my arms around him. For a boy of sixteen, he was already taller than me. "Go eat, then take a shower and rest. I'll stay here with him."

"Are you sure?" he asked, looking down at me.

"Completely," I smiled. "You need to rest and eat." He gave me a look, but walked out of the room either way. I took a seat besides Yongguk, immediately checking his pulse. I wrote it down on a small piece of paper and put it inside my pocket. Looking down at Yongguk, I couldn't help but sigh and wonder. What happened to him? Why would he get shot? I realized that I didn't know a lot about Yongguk, almost nothing. I knew his name, where he was from, and where he lived, nothing more. I didn't know his birthday, nor the names of his real siblings, the name of his parents, not who were his childhood friends.

I smiled to myseld, and ran a hand through my hair. Look at me, already thinking of him as something more than a friend. Silly me.

This story is no exception(?) Expection(?) Whatever.
I'm happy that you updated this - but oh, Yongguk... to tell a girl that you can't return her feelings 'cause you still like another one that is already dead... that's so wrong. Because no matter how much girls like to hear the truth from guys - they still don't really want to hear it if it makes them sad.

Oh well :D
Surprise me in the next chapter <3
