X. I Am Robin Hood

On A Rainy Day

The next morning, it was all the same. I woke up, cooked breakfast for the boys for when they woke up, got dressed, made a snack for the boys, then left for the hospital. It was tiresome, but accepted the jobs with a happy face. I got to take care of five boys, Himchan didn't quite count since he took care of himself, and they returned my hard work with big smiles and thank you's. Sometimes, I couldn't help but feel like a mother instead of a friend helping them out.

Yongguk had yet to wake up from his small coma. I knew it would be soon, since the blood he lost was replaced by the blood I had to steal form the hospital. I felt like a thief at times, like Robin Hood in a way. I stole the things Yongguk needed form the hospital, things that cost a lot of money, just to help one man live. That one man, though, was very important to me. I wanted him to live. I needed him to live. It was like Yongguk was the only thing I could think about when I worked and helped patients—it was all Yongguk.

I stole a handful of needles and shots for the pain that he would have, the machines that were hooked to his arms, and a bit more of the donated blood in case it would be needed. In all, I stole thousands of won in machinery to save him. I was the female Robin Hood, although it was just for the benefit of a single man and the boys he thinks of like family.

"Dr. Jung," a soft male voice spoke from the door to the small office. I looked up from the books on the desk, and saw another student smiling at me from the door. He was working in the ER for the whole year, just like I was. I remembered that he was one of the best student doctors, according to the nurses. "Do you want to eat lunch together?"

"It's already time for lunch?" I asked, taking a quick glance at the clock besides the door. "I think I was too focused on books..." I stood from my chair and stretched my arms and legs. I heard the cracking of my bones, making me smile as I immediately felt better. "What's for lunch today, Dr. Oh?"

"I heard we have japchae today," he gave me a thumbs up. "It's better than the usual salad and the weird tasting pork." I remembered that his name was Oh Dong Hae, not Dr. Oh. I had to remind myself that doctor had personal names. Since we were in the hospital, it was only formal that I called him Doctor and not by his own name.

"Japchae is good," I nodded with a hum. "Must be because it's Friday, don't you think?" He shrugged and got a plate for me as soon as we got in line. He kept talking about his patients and how one almost vomited on him as he was trying to get him to breathe. I only nodded and muttered a few oh's to his comments, looking up at him whenever he would say something that was a bit funny. For an attractive man, he wasn't that funny.

We sat down at one of the tables in the middle, right besides the four interns that were in the same internship as I. I couldn't pay attention to their conversation, so I began to look around at the tables on the cafeteria, noticing that everyone was talking and smiling for a place filled with such sadness. The were nurses tiding up her makeup, doctors talking with other doctors about going out drinking after their shift, or the few residents walking around with papers in one of their hands and a bottle of water in the other. It all reminded me of a high school cafeteria.

"We should go out drinking tonight," Doctor Lee Sung Min said as she ate a piece of her salad. "It should be fun. We'll eat some samgyupsal and drink some soju, maybe go to a norebang."

"We should," Donghae nodded, smiling at each one of us.

"Will you come with us this time, Mone?" Doctor Im Jong Kyu said. I looked up from my plate, glancing at everyone who now had their eyes on me. I couldn't say no when everyone was looking at me.

"Sure," I bit my bottom lip. "But you'll have to remind me before I leave." The five doctors in front of me smiled and nodded, going back to their conversation about what restaurant we should go to.

"What are you six doing here?" a nurse spat as she stood in front of our table. We looked at each other, then at her, all confused at her sudden attitude towards us. "Didn't you receive the message?"

"No," Dr. Oh responded while looking from us to the head nurse. "we received nothing."

"There's a VIP patient coming in ten minutes and there are not enough staff in the ER at the moment," she stared into each of our eyes. "She overdosed on anxiety pills. Get to it!" Without another word, we all stood up and threw away the food that was on our plates. The sign on top of the trash said not to leave food on our plates, but it was needed at the moment.

The six of us ran down the halls, three of us separating and getting the things we would need while the rest of us went to prepare the room. The head nurse was already waiting for us when we got there, her hands behind her back as she watched over us prepare the room. The patient was led to the room by two other interns and a doctor. I couldn't do anything except watch what the doctor and the nurses did to help the older woman. Apparently, she overdosed  on the anxiety pills after she had a fight with her husband. She also fell on the ground, which caused damage on her hip. When she fell, she hit her head quite hard, which caused her to pass out. I glued my eyes to the movements of their hands, watching everything they did on the patient.

After the treatment, they immediately sent her to a VIP room. I watched as they took her away, jealous to the amount of money she had behind her. Her name was Moon Yeong Ja, sister of the hospital director. She had a lot of money behind her, old money from political figures in her family. I was jealous that she didn't have to work to earn money and live comfortable, she could just do whatever her heart desired. She could travel around the world and stay in the most luxurious hotel and eat the most luxurious food.

"Jung Mone!" someone called as I walked out of the room. I turned my head, looking for the person that called my name. Kim Himchan was walking towards me, his hands in his pocket as he smiled brightly. "So this is were you worked?"

"Were you looking for me?" I asked with a chuckle. "What are you doing here?"

"Decided to visit my friend at her work," he shrugged, smiling once again.

"Ya," I made a face. "Don't you have anything better to do?" A smile began to spread around my lips as I watched him chuckle at my words. He wrapped an arm around my shoulders and began to pull me towards the waiting room. He pulled me down to sit and handed me an energy drink."But really, what are you doing here? I thought you would have been at home..."

"I was bored," he muttered. "The Junhong and Jongup are at school, Daehyun and Youngjae went to get an application for an online college and also job hunting. I had nothing to do."

"Is he..." I looked down at the can on my hands. "Has he made any progress?"

Himchan sighed, smiled softly, then shook his head. "He looks better, though. I think he'll wake up really soon, don't worry."

"You're telling me not to worry?" I scoffed, took a sip from the can and looked towards the many people around the waiting area. "That's like telling the murderer not to shoot the gun when they've already fired." I looked up at him and smiled. "I operated on him when I'm still an intern at the hospital. What if I did something wrong? What if I caused more pain than I was supposed to? What if I caused him to be in the small coma because of the blood loss when I operated on him? Himchan... I could have killed him."

"You didn't," Himchan answered after I was done speaking. "You didn't kill him, Mone. He's alive, he's breathing, he's getting better as we speak. He might even wake up today!" his hand touched my upper back in a soothing way. "Have faith, okay?"

"Dr. Jung!" I looked up at the sound of my name, seeing Dr. Oh walking towards us with a package of small cookies in his hands. "Oh... Is this your boyfriend?" he immediately asked.

I looked up at Himchan, then at Dr. Oh, and laughed. "No, he's a very good friend of mine."

"I'm just a friend." he waved a hand. "Her boyfriend is home!" he patted me on the back, stood up, then hurried himself away from me before I could hit him. I couldn't help but smile softly at the immediate thought of Yongguk.

"You have a boyfriend?" Dr. Oh asked as soon as Himchan was out of my line of vision. I turned to look up at him, raising a brow.

"Not really," I shrugged, looking down at the can that was almost empty. "He's just someone I really care about."

After a long day of checking on patients, we all went to the norebang that was close to the hospital. Alcohol and snacks decorated the smooth black table seconds after we arrived. Loud music and colourful lights were next, followed by the sound Song Yu Na singing to Whale Hunt by Song Chang Sik. The rest of us waved our hands in the air, most already buzzed from the alcohol in our system.

The song was soon changed to Girls' Generation, causing everyone to stand up and dance to the beat of Gee. We all sang along, holding our fists to our mouths as if they were our microphones. The room was our stage and we were our own audience—there was nothing that could make this night become any better. We drank, we ate, we sang, and we drank some more. After a few bottles of alcohol, we were also dancing on top of the tables. I had the microphone in hand while singing to Rain's You and Lee Hyori's Ten Minute. There were hands on my hips as I sang and danced on top of the table; I was too in the buzz to see who was the person.

After singing and dancing to various songs, drinking a few drinks, I finally sat down on and drank water. I ran a hand through my hair, smiling as I watched my colleagues dance and sing to the music. There were more bottles of soju and glasses with beer on the tables, along with more snacks. I took a slice of the dried squid, munching on it as they picked another song. I laughed when Im Jong Kyu and Lee Sung Min began to sing loudly to Secret's Magic. They danced to the song, earning more laughs from us.

I took my purse from the floor, immediately taking out my phone and checking if my parents called. There was no missed called, only one unread message. With a foggy mind, I opened the text message. Old conversations were on the screen, confusing met a bit. I thought my phone was broken, maybe I needed to restart it. But then, I saw the text message.

Bang Yongguk xxx-xxxx-xxxx
Where are you? Come home, I need to see you.

"Mone," Donghae laughed as he took a seat next to me. "Ya, is everything okay?"

"I need to get home," I smiled while standing up, collecting my things from around the room. I pulled on my shoes and my sweater, still smiling to myself. He was awake! He was finally awake. Yongguk was awake and I needed to see him in that instant.

"Want me to call you a driver?" Donghae followed me out the room, stumbling a bit as we walked down the few stairs.

"No!" I smiled over to him. "I'll get a cab from here. Don't worry about it. Go back to the room!" He stopped at the last step, looked at me, smiled and nodded, then turned around. I chuckled and jogged the rest of the way outside. I was glad that I left my car in the parking lot of the apartment, I couldn't drive with the amount of alcohol in my system. I didn't care about anything else then—I just needed to see him awake.

This story is no exception(?) Expection(?) Whatever.
I'm happy that you updated this - but oh, Yongguk... to tell a girl that you can't return her feelings 'cause you still like another one that is already dead... that's so wrong. Because no matter how much girls like to hear the truth from guys - they still don't really want to hear it if it makes them sad.

Oh well :D
Surprise me in the next chapter <3
