Preview:

After what seemed like hours, he finally stopped pedaling, and we came to stop.

We were at the harbor.

I got off the bike and he did too, pushing down on the brake so that the bike could stand on its own.

Instead of turning towards me, he turned to face the sea.

For minutes, there was only silence between us.

The gentle push of waves colliding against the wall and the cries of the seagulls overhead were the only indication that time was still moving.

I looked long and hard at his back for awhile, trying to sort out all the thousands of thoughts running through my mind to organize into one sentence.

Finally I walked up and stood by his side.

"Why did you do this?" I asked as I looked out at the sea too, wondering if he was looking at the same boat bobbing carelessly around the water as I was.

"Why did you let me?"
