"Fitting in"

Becoming B2utiful [Hiatus]

(A/N dream sequence bolded)

I was in a field of purple flowers and there stood a woman dressed in a red gown.

I couldn't see her face because of the glare from the sunlight.

She motioned for me to look in the direction she was.

There a small boy around four years old fan towards her.

He hugged her legs tightly. "Noona~" he cooed.

She patted his head affectionately and knelt before him streching out her palm.

She handed him a small pendant shaped like a soccerball.

"Give this to the person you care about the most." she told him.

He smiled and she faded into thousands of rose petals, blown away by the breeze.

The boy turned to me then smiled and held his hand still clutching the pendandt towards me.

I gave him my hand and the little charm hit my palm

Jae Mi awoke with a start.

She was late.

REALLY LATE.

I really need to set an alarm

She ran down the stairs and out the door.

"Jae Mi!" she turned and looked at Dujun.

"What?! Can't you see I'm running late!" she exclaimed still groggy.

He shrugged "I was going to offer you a ride but-"

Before he could finish his sentence she was already buckling her seatbelt in the passanger's seat.

When they arrived at school Jae Mi spotted Ha Ra.

"Goo Ha Ra!" she yelled trying to get said girl's attention.

But Dujun clamped a hand over and pulled her behind a wall.

"Are you crazy?!" He said peeking around to see if Ha Ra was approaching.

"Wae? She's my friend." Jae Mi replied

Dujun stared at her as if she was a maniac

"Okay I get that you're new here but listen, you don't want to be involved with Ha Ra, she's trouble."

"But wh-"

"Just trust me! Okay?" Dujun ran a hand through his hair.

Jae Mi decided not to push the subject any farther and headed to class.

Language arts was one of her favourite courses.

Writing came natural to her because of her parents and Jae Mi used that to her advantage.

She sighed and doodled on her notebook.

She wondered if her parents were looking at the Great Wall right now.

Jae Mi did love China.

This was your choice, now deal with it.

Someone sat next to her and Jae Mi brushed her bangs from her eyes, clearing her vision.

"Oh...hi Kikwang."

Said boy smiled "Hey, glad you remembered my name."

"How could I forget? After that whole lecture Yoseob gave me."

They both laughed.

"So...how are you?" he asked politely.

"I'm good, just a bit sleepy though."

Remembering her dream she played with her charm necklace.

Kikwang noticed "That's pretty where did you get it?"

"This? I add a charm from everywhere I visited in my travels."

He gaped at her "But there are so many!"

Jae Mi's smile faltered a bit.

"Yeah, I've been just about everywhere."

Kikwang raised an eyebrow "Really? What about...Spain?"

"Si."

"France?"

"Oui."

"Japan?"

"Hai."

"America?"

"Yes."

Kikwang looked at Jae Mi in awe. "Wow, must have been cool huh?"

She shrugged "It was, but I never kept that many friends."

He gave her a sympathetic smile.

"Well you at least have one now." He said softly.

Jae Mi blushed.

Suddenly Yoseob came out of nowhere, slamming his palms on the desk we sat at.

"Yah! I thought I told you to stay away from each other!" He cried.

"No, you said for Jae Mi not to fall for me, you said nothing about being friends." Kikwang retorted.

He made a face, trying to think of a comeback.

"W-Well y'know what Lee Kikwang!"

"What Yang Yoseob?"

"You're an idiot!" He exclaimed, and stormed off to his own seat.

You both laughed at his childish behaviour.

Then something struck Jae Mi.

"Kikwang, do you know a girl named Ha Ra?" She asked

Kikwang visibly stiffened and his smile faltered.

"Yes, what about her?"

"Well I met her a while ago and I thought she would be a good friend,

but when I told Dujun about it he freaked out on me."

He pursed his pouty lips in thought.

"We....Dujun and all the other guys have a...complicated relationship with her."

He replied carefully.

"What do you mean by that?" Jae Mi was even more curious than before.

Seeing Kikwang so serious made her wonder what the truth was.

He sighed "Now isn't the best time to talk about it."

The teacher arrived and everyone started to listen to his lecture.

Jae Mi however studied Kikwang's profile.

What is he hiding, and why won't he tell me?"

When the bell rang Kikwang left for his next class and Jae Mi went to hers.

Vocal music.

She absentmindedly twirled a strand of her blue hair in her fingers.

She arrived in class and practised her assignment with Junhyung, and the others.

"Yah, where's your head at?" Junhyung questioned.

"Mwoh?!"

"You missed your part."

"Oh...sorry I was just..."

"Distraced." he snapped "Why don't you take a break, you're not use rught now anyway."

"Yah Hyung, don't be so mean," Dongwoon said.

Jae Mi smiled "that's okay, he's right."

Today just seemed like one of those off days.

At lunch, instead of going with the guys to the roof, or off to find Ha Ra,

Jae Mi went for a walk around the campus, taking her camera with her.

She snapped a few photos of birds but nothing seemed so beautiful today.

She sat underneith a tree.

"Appa, Umma, you never said school would be like this."

It had only been a few days and Jae Mi was already feeling like everything was too complicated.

That everyone had such great friendships with one another and that she was an outsider.

She rested her head on her knees.

Someone sat next to her but didn't say anything.

She looked over at Hyunseung.

He was too busy trying to catch the tree's falling leaves to notice her.

His 4D attitude made you smile.

Compared to him you were normal.

"Why so glum?" He asked, still concentrating on the falling foliage.

Jae Mi shrugged.

"I just feel like I'm so different from everyone else here, and no matter how I try to fit in I won't."

Hyunseung paused for a moment,

looking over at her her gently and took a stray strand of hair tucking it behind Jae Mi's ear.

"Who said being different is a bad thing?

Just being yourself should be enough for the people around you, and if not, be around different people."

She blinked at Hyunseung, but eventually smiled.

"Thanks," she said.

"Anytime," He replied patting her head.

"C'mon we don't want to be late." Hyunseung held his hand out to Jae Mi.

She took it and he helped her up.

As they walked hyunseung linked his arm with Jae Mi's

"See, you're already starting to fit in," He joked.
