Becoming A Fanfic Cliché

Big Bang oneshots/scenarios

Daesung didn’t understand why his hyungs were forcing him to go to the hospital. He was fine. Sure, his vision was a little messed up but that probably had something to do with the numerous empty bottles of Soju clinking against each other at his between his sneaker-shod feet. He sighed unhappily and resigned himself to the prospect of being poked and prodded by individuals in ugly hospital scrubs and lame shoes. The lights outside were incredibly pretty and he shifted on the backseat of the rented Hummer H2 SUV to press his face against the glass so as to be able to watch the night scenery as they sped along.

“Yah! Don’t fall asleep!” Seungri exclaimed in alarm, his shout startling Daesung out of a cozy darkness.

“Wasn’t sleeping,” the older man murmured.

“Seunghyun-hyung, you’re closest to him, keep him awake.” Seungri ordered before twisting back around to read the map for Jiyong.

“I wasn’t sleeping,” Daesung protested a little louder from his warm and fluffy haze of sleepiness.

“Sure you weren’t,” Taeyang responded in an appeasing manner.

“I wasn’t,” Daesung repeated, looking with wide eyes at the waves crashing against the shores that were just a few feet away from the road they were traveling on.  The moon slid out from behind a huge cloud that looked like dark blue cotton candy and leaving a glowing trail on the surface of the water. He wanted to go swimming in that water. He would need to learn to swim first but he was sure one of the hyungs could teach him.

“Okay, we’re here.” Jiyong’s words were saturated with relief and Daesung tried to remember where the ‘here’ was supposed to be. He was frowning, lost in the futile attempt, when the door he was leaning on swung outward. He just barely caught himself in time to keep from kissing dirty pavement. Taeyang and Seungri insisted of helping him even though he was convinced that he could walk just fine. They seemed to be leading him to the lit up entryway of a tall white building that looked vaguely familiar. Jiyong and Seunghyun ran ahead to hold the door doors open for the trio and followed them into the bustling room. Daesung was forced to sit on an orange plastic chair that was as hard as it was ugly. The overhead lights were annoying bright and he had to narrow his eyes against their brilliance. Jiyong and Taeyang walked up to the reception desk while Seunghyun2 sat with him. He laughed. Seunghyun2. That was funny cause there were two of them and they were both named Seunghyun.

He was still laughing when a pretty lady with orange-red hair and matching freckles dusted across her nose and cheeks walked up to him with GDYB behind her. She took one look at the laughing man and sighed, motioning to the others that they should follow her and bring him. They wound up in one of those little spaces separated by curtains like you saw on the shows on Discovery Health and she had Daesung sit on the little hospital bed thing. She asked the other men, kindly, if they would go wait in the waiting room. The elder three began to comply, reassuring their friend that they’d be back quickly. The maknae hung around, interjecting when the woman asked Daesung questions about what had led to his being there.

“I don’t have the time nor the energy to explain what I’m doing to you right now,” the woman snapped, turning her attention back to Daesung after sending a cutting glare towards Seungri.

“I’m just wondering if you even know what you’re doing. I mean, you’re just a nurse.”

Even Daesung, in his weird blissed-out fuzzy state of mind knew that was a bad thing to say. The nurse’s reaction confirmed it. She tensed and her heel to face the maknae, marching toward him and grabbing him by his ugly paisley tie. There was a thwacking sound when his head hit the wall. The nurse was on her tiptoes, all up in Seungri’s face, and she looked as if she would gladly kill him where he stood.

“Listen, you spoiled, panda-eyed, big headed pretty boy. I’m only going to say this once,” the words barely got past her clenched teeth, “I’ve been working damn near sixteen hours. I don’t remember the last time I ate. My entire body hurts. I should be at home with my family but I’m here because there are people like your friend who need my help. I’m doing my best here and your smartass comments are not helping. When I let you go you are going to walk out of this cubicle or so help me God I will skewer you through the heart with one of the chopsticks in my hair. Arasso?” She waited for him to nod before shoving him away from her with so much force that he slammed into a nearby cart and almost fell on his face.

A couple of minutes later and Daesung had a diagnosis. There was a long string of complicated words that he made a face at followed by a nice concise laymen’s terms explanation: he had a mild concussion. He made another face when the pretty nurse told him that he had to be kept overnight for observation but grinned when she told him that she had been assigned to his case. His friends came by and she explained to them, shooing them out after a few minutes because she needed to get him to a room and do some paperwork.

He was annoyed when she woke him up the first time. He felt fine except for the headache that had suddenly appeared. She frowned when he mentioned that and went to call a doctor who came to stare at him and ask him questions and frown alongside the nurse. He was pissed off when she woke him the second time. By morning he had what she called “disturbing developments”.

A couple of days later he was finally released. Apparently his concussion had gotten worse and they had had to keep him longer than they originally intended to. That had kinda . Being stuck in a hospital while you were basically okay except for some serious confusion and not being able to remember how he’d gotten the blow to his head in the first place. Kissing the pretty nurse in the elevator as she took him down to the ground floor to discharge him had made up for that. He was aware that there were innumerable clichéd stories out there where the hot nurse and her famous (or rich) patient got together and he had to say, becoming one of those seemed pretty damn cool.

Chapter 39: Love it! Loved how you slowed down the pace for readers with the way you put your descriptions together. I literally felt there was a time freeze right before the sun dips underneath the horizon. Everything around you is clear and vivid right before you die. The best line for me was "train crashing into a china shop". It's like a rude awakening amongst all the serenity. Yes, it's short... But perfectly short & beautiful!

Chapter 38: Omigawd... It's been too long! I've forgotten how beautiful you write! The analogies... The metaphors were on point. Felt like I was reading poetry, lol. It was great! Thank you so much for this one shot! I felt every bit of the character's awkwardness and sad sorry attempts to fit in... Made me have flashbacks for a moment >.<

And meeting Tobae? I would've died! This girl is definitely braver than me! This story seems unfinished, now that I've had a chance to think about it. Sequel!

Chapter 37: UGH! You're killing me! All these sad stories... at first I think she's a psycho you know what! But even then... towards the end, I still think that, lol. I think it's because of my POV on suicides and whatnot and not a reflection on the story itself. But her running away and grinning didn't help in my mind either. Cue psycho music!

As usual, story is well-written. Choice of words are great. But I can't help but feel like we've read this story before almost. It's very similar to the other Tabi story kind-of - in which his girlfriend is in the hospital because of an eating disorder. I know (different subject) but almost the same vibe (him feeling helpless).

And then there's Teddy. Why is he helping her? I just want to strangle him. "Stand by her no matter what" - makes me believe those five years meant a lot to him. But this?! Omigerd... He's s/b the older, logical one too... If it was another character, maybe I'd believe it. But not Teddy. =[
