Realize Your Love

Lying For Love

Woohyun’s eyes widened. He thought he was doing such a good job at pretending to be fully interested. He thought that if he forced himself to look like he liked Sunggyu, maybe he actually will grow to like Sunggyu.

“What do you mean? You don’t like me?”

Sunggyu sighed. “No, I do like you Woohyun…” he fiddled with his fingers, “but I can see that you are obviously in love with someone else. I don’t think it would be fair to me if I were to fall for you while you were in love with someone else.”

He smiled as he stood up from his seat. “Woohyun, if you ever get over this incredibly lucky person, you can always call me. I guess I’m going to single for a while. The truth is, although I like you, I’m in love with someone else too. It’s too bad he’s the one who set me up on this date. We’re both pathetic like this I guess.” Sunggyu chuckled bitterly.

Woohyun watched Sunggyu leave the coffee shop and sighed. Sunggyu and Woohyun were the same. They both loved someone who was already in love with someone else. At least Sunggyu could think of the future. He was willing to accept the fact that he wasn’t ever going to be with Myungsoo. Sunggyu was willing to give up Myungsoo and try to fall for Woohyun if it would succeed in making Myungsoo happy.

He admired Sunggyu. He could do something that Woohyun couldn’t. Woohyun couldn’t forget Sungyeol; he could never stop loving Sungyeol. His love for him was like a curse.

Woohyun snapped out of his thoughts when suddenly, his phone rang. It was Sungyeol…

He didn’t hesitate before picking it up. “Sungyeol.”

            “Hello? Is this… Nam Woohyun?”

Woohyun raised an eyebrow. “Ummm, yes this is him. Who’s asking?”

            “Are you Lee Sungyeol’s friend?”

Woohyun gulped. Wait, this doesn’t sound good. “Yes, I am.”

“We have your friend here at Seoul National University Hospital. He and…Kim Myungsoo have been in an accident. Lee Sungyeol is now in a coma.”

Woohyun’s hand shook as he listened to the person on the phone give him the address of the hospital. He could barely speak. He stuttered a goodbye and immediately ran out of the coffee shop. He scanned the street in front of him. There were cars everywhere. There was no time to wait for a taxi and sit through more traffic. Woohyun broke into a sprint towards the hospital. He remembered the directions that the person on the phone had given him. The hospital wasn’t that far.

Woohyun ran and ran. He felt the air burn in his lungs as he breathed in and out. He pumped his legs as fast as he could. Sungyeol was hurt. He lied to Sungyeol for the first time and he gets into an accident. If he hadn’t went on that stupid blind date or listened to that stupid boyfriend of Sungyeol’s, Sungyeol would’ve been safe. Woohyun would’ve protected him. Woohyun should be the one in a coma right now, not Sungyeol. Sungyeol was innocent and perfect. He didn’t deserve to be hurt. He doesn’t deserve to get into an accident.

***

When Woohyun arrived at the hospital, he yelled impatiently at the receptionist. The nurses and doctors scooted out towards the walls as they saw Woohyun running through them, trying to get to Sungyeol’s room as quickly as he could. His hands were shaking when he tried to open the door. They slipped the first time, making him curse at himself. He took a deep breath and tried again. He calmed down and got the door open.

Woohyun felt as if time stopped when his eyes fell on Sungyeol. The wires and tubes surrounding his love saddened him. He rushed over to Sungyeol’s side. Tears left his eyes as he crouched down and took Sungyeol’s hands in his. Sungyeol… I’m sorry. I’ll never leave your side again.

The door opened and in came the doctor. He stared at the guy crying his heart out in front of his patient. This is true love. This man is lucky. The doctor cleared his throat to let Woohyun know he was there.

Woohyun looked up. He was relieved. The doctor was finally here. “What happened??”

“Lee Sungyeol got into an accident. There was a car crash at the intersection near the park. Sungyeol was lucky though. The other person, Kim Myungsoo, I believe, wasn’t.”

Woohyun’s breathing hitched. “What happened to Myungsoo?”

“I’m sorry to say this, but Kim Myungsoo has passed away.”

***

Woohyun didn’t know what to do. Myungsoo was dead. Was he supposed to feel happy? His competition was finally out of the way. There was nothing that stood in the way of him and Sungyeol now—nothing except for Sungyeol’s pure love for Myungsoo. Woohyun held back more tears. He looked over at the doctor. “I-is Sungyeol going to be okay?”

The doctor nodded. “His injuries were not that severe. However, there’s no guarantee that he will wake up. There’s a possibility he might lose a part of his memory if he wakes up as well.”

The doctor didn’t know what to do when he saw the guy in front of him break into tears. He wanted to reassure Woohyun, and tell him that Sungyeol would wake up, but as a doctor, he wasn’t supposed to go around giving false hope. Though it seemed likely that Sungyeol would wake up soon, he didn’t want to tell Woohyun that. Anything could happen. Sungyeol could die before he gets a chance to wake up.

He voiced out his thoughts to Woohyun. He listened carefully and nodded. The doctor wished Woohyun luck and left to the next room.

When the door opened, Woohyun heard Sunggyu’s cries and screams. Myungsoo really was dead. How was he supposed to break this terrible news to Sungyeol when he wakes up? If Sungyeol were to wake up, would he still want to live? Woohyun shook his head. Nothing mattered right now; the future didn’t matter right now. All that mattered to Woohyun at the moment was that he couldn’t see Sungyeol’s bright smile or hear his laughter anymore. He cried again as he took Sungyeol’s unmoving hand in his.

“S-S-Stay alive Sungyeol!  I’ll wait for you—even if I have to wait forever.”
