CHAPTER 3

[Inside Tiffany’s office]

“Tae Tae!”

The young woman beamed in glee as the visitor came in with a wide smile in his face. Tiffany pulled the ‘Tae-Tae’ for a tight and engulfing hug as the latter chuckles and patted her head affectionately:

“Hey, Tippany! I guess you missed me that much, huh?”

They smiled to each other with Tiffany asking the news about his trip and everything as she gestured to him take a seat in front her desk and she returned to her previous spot. When they were comfortable, the young woman sighed deeply and muttered sincerely with some air of panic in her voice:

“Of course! Much more when daddy had to left to Japan to boost our business. And then, here I am, all alone and responsible for everything. Oh Gosh…”

Taeyeon frowned worriedly as he eased her tensed shoulders, asking into doubtful tone:

“But… what’s wrong, Fany-ah?”

The younger president took a deep breath as she raised her head from the desk. She pouted and muttered again, still looking down:

“Nah, don’t worry, Tae. Its just that daddy let the H K Corp in my hands so suddenly that I couldn’t even prepare myself… If only… wait a minute… Aha! Tae, what do you think of--!”

“Nah ah ah, missy. If uncle let the Company in your hands, I am sure that he knew what he was doing and because he trusts you.”

He added with a confident smile while shaking his finger to the pouting girl. Although the latter whined with a loud “BUT”, he cuts her words saying into a wise tone:

“Tippany… You know I love you and we met each other since we were on our diapers. If Uncle asked for your help, I know you are very capable to do it. If dad was here, I knew he would say the same thing. It’s time to trust on yourself as we do, and don’t worry, if you need my help, then I will be there for sure okay?”

Unconsciously, Tiffany smiled gratefully with his words and nodded her head. Out of sudden, a weird and byun smile crept in his face as he added into a content tone:

“Besides… I would enjoy staying here a little longer this time… This floor it’s kinda interesting, don’t you think? Much more when it comes… Sunny…”

He said as he looked to the door with a dorky smile widening. Meanwhile, Tiffany slapped his shoulder hard as the poor shorty guy whined like a baby:

“Ya! You better wipe this byun smile on your face now, Kim Taeyeon!”



Seconds later, they end up bursting in laugher as they passed the rest of the morning, remembering their old moments and chatting a lot since they had a lot of things to catch up…

[Meanwhile, outside the office…]

While Sunny was busy in her own tasks diligently, Jesse tried to busy his mind as well. Of course, he still was familiarizing with his new tasks and everything. However, as much he wanted some peace in his mind, he was failing all the times. His brain would replay the scene when his boss gladly hugged another man in front of his eyes. He knew that he shouldn’t be so cranky since its his first day plus, he must act strictly professional… then why does that scene is bothering him so much?

He just couldn’t help, to feel uneasy and slightly… sad, but work is work. He repeated this like a mantra as he struggled to make these weird thoughts disappear from his mind. However, he was able to make a good job forgetting the scene by the morning… until out of the sudden, sound of laughter’s echoed inside his boss’s office and the door opened, revealing the smiling pair. The scene also caught Sunny’s attention, and the latter couldn’t help to pout and frown slightly.

Jesse who watched everything dumbfounded, only snapped from his trance when his boss called his name softly:

“Oh, Jesse! I am going to have my lunch with Mr. Kim and Oh--- I almost forgot, let me introduce you two. Jesse, this is Kim Taeyeon, one of the H K Corp directors and my friend. Tae, this is Jesse Jung, my new assistant.”

Taeyeon smirked and extended his hand for a warm handshake; although feeling easier, Jesse kept his serious expression as he spoke in respect:

“Nice to meet you, Mr. Kim.”

“Ya, don’t need to be so formal. Just call me Tae or Kim ok? By the way, Tippany here said good things about you. So if she chose you to be her assistant, I trust you too.”

Jesse couldn’t help to feel something inside of him fluttering when he heard the words coming from Taeyeon’s mouth. He glanced his boss and could swear that he saw a faint blush in her face as she smiled in agreement. The assistant could only nodded his head with a soft expression and he genuinely spoke, stealing some glances of the eye-smiling president:

“Thank you, I am honored to take this job too. And I promise to keep my word and commitment.”

Taeyeon laughed heartily as he patted Jesse’s shoulder in agreement. Meanwhile, he offered his hand for a handshake again to excuse himself, walking to the elevator, but not without turning around and wave to the pouting girl. When Sunny realized that Tae was waving at her and with a big smile in his face, she could only wave back dumbly with a dreamy grin in her lips. Yet, her face becomes flushed when the shorty and cute guy winked at her exposing his charms.

Meanwhile, Jesse and Tiffany stifled a giggle at the scene; once they looked back to the other, they smiled nervously as Jesse scratched the back of his neck and Fany looked down, not knowing what to say. Out of sudden, she passed through him to the elevator, but he couldn’t help to blurt the words, a little shy:

“Hm have a good lunch, Tiffany-shi.”

The latter smiled warmly, letting her eye-smiles come to the surface. Nodding her head, she bowed gently, speaking in the same soft tone:

“Thank you, Jesse. For you too. If you need anything, you can call me okay?”

Jesse nodded in assurance with a smile and Tiffany returned as she finally left with Taeyeon by the elevator. Meanwhile, Sunny could only suppress a smile to see a daydreaming Jesse in front of her, still looking at the elevator as if Tiffany still was there.

After a productive and tiring day, Jesse concluded his first day on the H K Corp with a satisfied smile in his face, yes, he was able to survive. However, while he was coming back to his home, his mind started to bring random scenes of his day and mainly… of his charming and adorable boss. Just remembering her face, words and smile; Jesse smiled unconsciously with himself. He only stopped when he heard the sudden voice:

“Hey! What’s wrong with your face?!”

“Huh?!” Jesse snapped from the La-La-Land when he realized that he already was in his home and his sister was staring at him with a confused semblance in her face. He rapidly adjusted himself and placed his normal ‘blank face’ trying to keep his cool:

“What? I am fine, Krys. Why did you ask?” He couldn’t help to chuckle nervously when his younger sister was staring at him suspiciously. Feeling uneasy, he tugged his white shirt to cool his temperature due the silent interrogation. However, he felt worse when a mischievous smile crept in Krystal’s lips. So the latter, shrugged her shoulders and walked to the kitchen, speaking loudly:

“Well, I was about to ask you how was your first day, but… only watching your creepy smile… I think it is THAT GOOD, isn’t?”

“Krystal…” He warned with his deep voice, but his sister turned around and stuck her tongue as she blurted, already teasing him:

“She must be THAT beautiful to make you blush like this, oppa! Hahahahaha!!!”

“AISH! THAT’S IT! COME BACK HERE, KRYSTAL!”

It was on; Jesse started to chase his ‘annoying’ sister by their apartment as the latter was teasing him. But soon, when he caught her, they end up laughing and tickling each other. Once they were over, they chatted, ate and prepared themselves for their precious sleep. After Jesse placed his younger sister on her bed since she fell asleep on their couch, he kissed her forehead and shook his head with a smile as he walked to his room. Settling himself in the bed, he remembered his early commotion with his dongsaeng…

*FLASHBACK*

Once they finished their meal, Krystal came back to her room to do her homework as Jesse was in their small living room, browsing on the H K Corp’s site. Actually, he was doing his ‘homework’ too coz’ tomorrow he will aid his boss in an important reunion. A couple minutes later doing some personal notes and marking an important information, he decided to browse on the site a little more. However, it’s was getting late and Jesse still was up after he checked the whole site, yet… when he saw the link of ‘H K Corp Founders’, it picked his interest as he clicked on the button.

There was a brief story as the H K Corp was created and everything, and as he was rolling the page, a sudden picture with two men it was displayed on the monitor. He watched attentively and reads the picture’s subtitle which says ‘The H K Corp Founders, Hwang Kenneth and Kim Daniel’. Rolling over, the next picture was with the title “The Founder’s Family”. Just when Jesse rolled the page to see the picture, he watched two families on the pic, analyzing each one of them quietly, Jesse saw the same Kim Taeyeon beside Kim Daniel, but then, his heart doubled the pace when he looked to the right…

Beside Mr. Hwang, there was… is actual boss…Miss Tiffany Hwang. The moment he saw her on the display, it was like the whole pic was blurred, but Tiffany was the only he was focusing. A sudden smile crept in his face as he kept staring at her picture for ‘hours’, he couldn’t help to whisper:

“Yes, she is… beautiful indeed… really beautiful and talented…”

…

“A-ha! So is this your new boss?! Wow, no wonder you were smiling weirdly earlier? Hahahahaha!!!”

“Ya! You better run, JUNG KRYSTAL! Because when I put my hands on you… ARGHHHH!!!”

A steaming Jesse hastily placed his laptop on the couch as he chased his teasing sister by their apartment… with his face completely flushed.

*END FLASHBACK*

Lied on his bed, Jesse chuckled at their ‘little fight’ earlier; his sister can be really annoying sometimes, but he knows she loves him like he loves her. However, when his eyes were ready to close, he had to admit in a whisper before drift to the dreamland:

“But… she is beautiful… Tiffany-shi…”

A couple days later, Jesse proved that he was a notable assistant. In every single reunion, he was like Tiffany’s right hand for everything, and the latter… well, she couldn’t be more satisfied and pleasant with her earlier decision of hiring him.

However, after another tiring day of work, all the employees were leaving the building... well, almost all of them. Actually, there is someone who still was tapping the laptop completely absorbed by the work. It only snapped to the reality when it heard the sudden call:

“Jesse, aren’t you going to leave? It’s 6:15 PM already.”

“Oh, it’s true. I didn’t realize it, Sunny.”

Jesse said in surprise as he glanced his wristwatch while his co-worker/friend already was holding her purse, ready to leave. He followed her suit as he turned off his computer and grabbed his backpack to leave as well. But, when he heard someone tipping on the pc and light up on his boss’s office; he nibbled his lips doubtfully, but decided to follow his instincts. He turned to Sunny and smiled as he waved at her:

“I guess I will stay a little longer. Miss Hwang is still there and I will see if she needs anything.”

“Oh ok then, but, just an advice, Jess…” Sunny added with a serious voice as Jesse stared at her quizzically. With a sudden and sly smile, she finally adds:

“Behave yourselves, I don’t wanna to get here and see a totally mess in the office. So, be a good boy, ok?”

“S-Su-Sunkyu! WHAT THE HELL THIS IS SUPPOSE TO MEAN?!”

“Hahahaha, oh Jesse, you are so fun to tease! But… I will let this with your imagination… hahahahaha see you tomorrow, bye bye!”

With that, Sunny quickly ran away and laughed at a blushing and embarrassed Jesse. The latter snarled loudly and asked himself what he had done to have everyone teasing him? Nonetheless, after he shook his head and calmed himself; he looked back to his boss’s office and taking a deep breath, he decided to go further while calming his anxious heart.

After some soft knocks on the door, Tiffany snapped from her computer and replied softly:

“Come in.”

Once the door was open, Tiffany smiled a little to see her assistant with a coy expression on his face, and then, she added gently:

“Oh, it’s you Jesse. What can I do for you?”

He looked down and speaking respectfully, trying to not blush due to her bright smile:

“Hmm, sorry for interrupt you, Miss Hwang, but… I was wondering if you will need anything since its 6:30 PM… and everyone already left.”

“Oh Gosh… I didn’t realize it! I was so focused in our new project that, well *chuckles* anyways, that’s fine, Jess. I will keep working on this since our term it’s almost ending…”

She said in concern as she removed her glasses and rubbed her temples slowly. Jesse, who watched the whole scene, he observed her worriedly as his boss smiled tiredly at him and spoke:

“Don’t worry, you are free, Jess. It passed your shift anyway. Please, go home safely and could you leave the corridor’s light on? I guess I will stay here a little longer.”

Although her words entered on his ear, Jesse was pondering deeply in his thoughts. Yes, his boss was right; it was time to leave… then why he felt a tug in his heart at the thought of leaving behind? The concern was “eating him alive”; so he squeezed his backpack’s strap, wondering what he had to do. Nonetheless, knowing himself, he knew that he wouldn’t be able to leave a lady alone in a dark building while he is safe and comfy on his home, much more when this young lady is his boss. So not thinking twice, he didn’t have reasons to be worried with his sister in their home since he knew that she was sleeping at her best friend’s house. So he quickly shrugged off the backpack from his body and placed on a table as he walked to Tiffany’s desk, speaking into a serious tone:

“Is this the advertisement for the new product?”

“Yes, but we need to innovate our merchandizing since we had a drop on the last trimester. Honestly, I am working on this for days, but I have the feeling that something is missing…”

Jesse analyzed the project on the display attentively and he was amazed… now, he was much more proud to have such a talented and responsible boss. The project was a masterpiece, but as she spoke before, there was something missing on the whole planning. Letting the gears of his mind start to work, Jesse pulled a chair and took the seat beside his boss while adjusting his thick frame glasses. The president creased her brows in confusion/concern as she asked carefully:

“Hmm, Jesse. I am not being indelicate, but… shouldn’t you go back to your home? Honestly, I don’t know when I will end this.”

Jesse merely chuckles as he shook his head, finally looking at his side, he stared his boss’s melting eyes intently. Although her office was lighten, due the night, their vision wasn’t very clear which was good or else they would spot the tint of pink in their cheeks. Their eyes were locked for a moment, but out of sudden, they broke the stare in shyness; and Jesse spoke gingerly, gathering courage to face her again as a genuine smile crept in his lips:

“Yes, you are right. But as your assistant and a gentleman, it would be indelicate to leave a lady alone. Besides, I wouldn’t have peace in my mind knowing that you by yourself in this project when I could help you. Don’t you agree, Miss Hwang?”

“But, you—“

“Don’t worry, Tiffany-shi. Together, we can finish this soon if we work together. Now, let’s start with this spot.”

Afterwards, Jesse started to read the project and make some notes on his notepad. Meanwhile, he was so into on his own notes that he didn’t even realize that a genuine and gently smile crept in his boss’s lips while she watched him secretly. Actually she was amazed with her enigmatic and surprising assistant; for the first time in ages, she never saw such a unique guy. Every boy she had met until now, whenever it was trying to take advantage on her or simply hitting her; or it would be interested by her status. But Jesse was different, this blond haired guy was odd, serious and kind at the same time; much more she learned about him, the more she felt interested on this person.

“Jesse Jung… you are full of surprises… I am glad to have you around…”
