Sneak Peek
New Year ’s Eve is so overrated. It was still a wonder that people spent billion dollars on that particular night just to signify the beginning of another year of mental tortures and physical torments of life that will be brought to them. I’m not breaking any ground with this statement. In fact, a few of my friends agreed with me. By ‘a few’, I meant five people, including me. It was a small number but it is okay. During our presidential election, the ad mentioned that the nation count every single person as a valuable voter in which every single person has a right to have a say on something. In that case, we are significantly valid in number to say that New Year’s Eve and to suggest to the parliament to not waste our money on fireworks or concerts or stupid decorations. Yes, that is what we’re going to do next year (since the idea arrived quite late and the New Year’s Eve is tonight. Plus, I don’t think the parliament is open until the end of next year). Tonight, at our gathering, I’m going to tell the girls (and a half guy) about my idea and we are going to stop next year’s New Year’s Eve.
Yeah, we!
Me and my spouseless friend.
“Do you have any suggestion?”
Lifting his head, Minho looked at Yuri and his heart was in his eyes.
“Yes.” With tender solemnity, he whispers, “Ethereal. Because...because..." Honestly, there are no words or name to describe his perfect daughter, "because I think she's the most beautiful baby ever. She seems so unreal. It feels like heaven.”
Still crouching, Minho cupped her, now restored, heel in his left hand and reached over to pick up her sandal with his right. Just as he was about to slips the sandal onto her foot, he glanced up at her and his lazy smile sent Yuri’s pulse racing as he asked.
“Isn’t there some fairytale about a man who searches for the woman whose foot fits into a glass slipper?”
She nodded, her eyes bright.
“Cinderella.”
“What happens to me if the slipper fits?”
“I turn you into a handsome frog.”
She's Dancing With Another Man
Tonight you are lovely
With that crown on top of your hair
With that white dress that hung flawlessly unto your wonderful body
With that magical smile that only the angels could wear
Tonight you are beautiful, as always
But tonight I’m only watching you at the side
Because you were dancing with another man
A sixteen year old Kwon Yuri barely understands what love means…
A sixty year old Kwon Yuri barely remembers what love feels like…
“I don’t want to say it. It hurts my pride.” She complained.
His shoulder drops, “As if it does not hurt my pride when you said that you feel like you are dating a little brother on that day? You should at least give me credit for going against the odd for marrying you. I love you so much that it I’d become a laughing stock between my friends for daydreaming about this day even before I dated you. They said I’m crazy –”
“Well you are.”
His expression sunken and she couldn’t get enough of that. It was one of her favourite past times – making him angry.
“What? Is she your ex-bestfriend? Is this what’s all about?”
“It is more complicated than that. Amber and I…” She’s trying hard to explain. “We sort of kissing each other back then…in the high school.”
"I always believe in you."
Those words from her made his happiness beyond his dreams. Far beyond.
Key, the guy who have everything to say about anything and Jonghyun, the guy who always wants to know everything, looked at each other with a meaningful glance.
“Definitely a lover’s fight.” Key declared.
In a split second, the white-dyed-haired duos cling themselves beside Minho who's finally able to sit down on one of the benches in front of the departure gate. The prey rolled his eyes at his most annoying mates. Onew and Taemin watched as Key and Jonghyun tried to pry on his relationship matters.
“Did you shout at her?”
“Did she cry?”
“Why did you fight with her?”
“Is this about your scandal with Sulli? Because I swear to God, that would have been so funny. It just one single flopped drama and she had been our dearest sister since God knows when.”
If Key hadn’t been so immense with his talk he would have recognized Minho’s you-are-dead-to-me glare at him. Not only he brought up the scandal, the diva also promptly proclaimed that his drama was a failure as if he hadn’t known about it.
“Shut up.” He sighed. “Just shut up. I’m not in the mood to discuss about this.”
Jonghyun look up to Key and mouthed “Must be a really big fight.”
“They must've been yelling at each other.” Key mouthed back.
“Or broke up.”
To which Key agreed with a single nod.
“Yah, you two are right in front of me! You think I can’t see that?”
“Where are you going?” he asked, his wide eyes are burning.
“I’m going out.”
“With Siwon? I don’t think so.”
Yuri rolled her eyes at him and jerks his hand off her. She stands up. “Well, you give me permission to go out just now, Minho, and I will do just that. And don’t worry, I will text you where I’m heading to.”
She stormed off to their room to pick out her cloth. She nearly chuckled at his dumbstruck face just now. Serve him right.
Her inner trolls had just being unleashed.
He closes his eyes tightly as if on pain and gently opens it again. The empty room summons his loneliness again. The apartment is dead quiet. No one to welcome him home. No smiles. No giggles. No women's perfume lingering in the air like his playboy brother's house. And not even a sight of toys or milk bottles like in Seunggi and Yoona's house, the baby factory.
It's clean. It's empty.
And it leaves a bitter taste in his mouth. He is utterly exhausted and it makes him emotional.
Hell, man can be emotional too sometimes.
