SULAY'S Love Story

The Last Vacation (What Do We Do From Here?) [DISCONTINUED]

Suho and Lay met on that fateful first day of elementary school. Suho had just enrolled in along with his cousins Park Chanyeol and Oh Sehun. When he first met the shy Chinese boy, he thought Lay was pretty adorable.

“Hey, what’s your name?” Suho has always been a friendly little boy, always wanting to make friends with everyone, so he took the initiative to know the shy boy.

“Yi…Yixing…but you can call me Lay…”he answered.

“Nice to meet you too! My name is Suho, the tall giant behind me is my cousin Park Chanyeol and the other one is Oh Sehun.” Suho pointed to a very tall kid behind him and a much more quieter one next to him.

“Hey there Lay!! Nice to meet you!! Oh you look so cute!! Suho look, he’s got dimples!!” the tall kid said while shaking Lay’s hand fervently. Lay blushed at the reaction. He smiled at them and Chanyeol spazzed some more.

“Oh Suho!! Look at him! You have to join our little gang here, you’re just too cute to pass up!” Chanyeol linked his arms around the Chinese boy’s neck and pulled him along with him. Needless to say, that’s how they became friends.

Even if Chanyeol sort of weirded Lay out at first, the shy boy eventually made found friends in EXO. Luhan was like his soul mate, who knew everything on his mind, and Kai was a funny and entertaining friend, even if he liked cracking dirty jokes. Kris was also a great guy to know. All in all, it was safe to say Lay found a new home in EXO.

Lay was still pretty quiet and shy, and perhaps a little bit of a nerd but the other kid’s standard. If it weren’t for EXO dragging him out, he would have stayed at home his entire life, buried in books. He was however the smartest kid in school. Valedictorian, science fair awards, quiz winners…he took them all. Academically, he was a genius, but emotionally, the boy was a nervous wreck.

Ever since elementary school, the shy nerd had a huge crush on the first friend he ever made, Suho. Suho was sweet and friendly. He was so likeable and charming he could charm the birds from the trees and the fish from the sea. He was voted class president three years in a row and he was a great leader, or even father figure to EXO alongside Kris. Everyone loved hanging out with Suho, and they found great comfort in him as a friend.

Suho never forgot the shy kid. He was busy with extracurricular activities and he being class president kept him busy but he always made time for his shy buddy. He made sure to always include Lay in conversations and group outings. He voluntarily asked Lay to tutor him on history and he paid back by getting tickets to the science fair for him. Lay knew he always had a friend in Suho, and Suho was there whenever he needed him.

The trouble with Suho’s popularity were the girls. Girls who were prettier, and smarter and richer all wanted Suho’s attention. Lay was also 100% sure Suho was straight, which since Lay was so in love with him. There was one girl, Jessica, that seemed to stick around longer than most girls. It seemed as if Suho and Jessica were meant to be. Lots of people said the couple would last.

To everyone’s surprise, they didn’t. Jessica moved back to the States and they broke up. Lay thought of it as a secret blessing from above and finally decided to take Chen’s advice. He was going to confess to Suho before it’s too late.

“Suho…we need to talk.” Lay started. They were at Lay’s house cramming for their college finals. Suho put down the pen he was spinning and looked at him. “What is it, Xingxing?”

Xingxing, the secret nickname Suho made for Lay. He only used it when it was just the two of them. Lay thought it was sweet and endearing. He gulped down his guts and closed his eyes before saying, “I…like you. I mean, I always have, as friends, but I mean like uhm…”

“Xingxing, you can just say it. We’re not kids anymore.”

“I love you,” Lay blurted. “I always have. For the longest time.”

Lay looked at Suho, who was simply staring at the boy. Lay bit his lip and thought, that’s it. I screwed it. There’s no way he likes me. God damn it why am I such an idiot?

Then, Suho did the unthinkable. He leaned forward and kissed Lay. Lay gasped at the soft touch of Suho’s lips. His eyes flutter close as Suho’s lips engulfed his own. He felt his arms wrap around Suho’s neck as the boys got closer.

“I love you too, Xingxing.” Suho smiled. Before Lay could say anything, Suho kissed him again.

Afterwards, life was sweet for the Sulay couple. They went through their college years as a sweet romantic couple. Suho proved to be everything Lay could ever want. He was romantic and compassionate. For their 2nd year anniversary, Suho took Lay on a romantic yacht ride with a candlelight dinner on board. He even sang a tune for Lay. Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years. It made Lay tear up and cry like a baby.

However, rocky waves appeared in Sulay’s life appeared when a blonde girl showed up again at their front door. Lay opened the door to see who it was, and saw a very familiar looking girl, but he couldn’t pinpoint who it was.

“Lay, is that you?” she said, peering at him.

“Yeah, who are you looking for?”

“I’m looking for Suho, is he in?”

“Sorry, he’s out at the moment.”

“Lay, don’t you remember me?” the girl pointed to herself.

“Erm…I…” Lay tried his hardest to recall.

                “It’s me, Jessica.”

Cold waves of realization hit him. Jessica. Suho’s ex. He felt his heart lurch in his stomach. What was she doing here? Has she returned from the States for good?

“Jessica?!” Suho blurted when he finally met her. Jessica jumped into his arms, “Suho! Long time no see!”

“It has been long hasn’t it?” Suho smiled and hugged her back. Lay always knew they maintained best friends even after their break up, but it made Lay very nervous. He didn’t suspect his boyfriend of cheating, but you can’t help but feel self-conscious and even slightly jealous in this situation.

Suho and Jessica met up quite a couple of times. Jessica was back in the States to extend her fashion business and she was interested in getting Suho to be her business partner. Suho claimed that whenever they met up, it was about business. He would kiss Lay’s forehead and tell him he had nothing to be jealous about. He loved Lay, and that was his number one priority. Lay wanted to believe him, but it wasn’t always easy.

One day, Jessica met Lay in one of the streets of Seoul. Lay was pursuing  a Masters inEconomics, but in the mean time, he was also working. He worked as a business manager at Xiuchen’s café, Sweet Buns.

“Are you dating Suho at the moment?” she asked him.

                “Yeah.”

“Really?” the blonde girl scoffed. “I can’t believe he fell for someone like you.”

“What?” Lay felt daggers striking his heart.

“You. He fell for the biggest nerd in school? You kidding me right?”

“Stay out of this Jessica. You guys are over.”

“It’s not over till I say it is.” Jessica scowled. “I’ll get my man back, if it’s the last thing I do.”

Lay stayed still on the streets while Jessica walked away. He tried to move, but his feet were rooted to the ground. He felt cold tears in his eyes and a deep sting in his heart. That’s it. It’s time for Lay to confront Suho about it.

By the time Lay arrived home, he saw a mover’s van outside. There was a group of tall blonde guys moving the boxes. Was Lay finally getting a new neighbor?

“Hey, you live next door?” one of the blonde boys asked, peeking his head across the wall.

“Yeah, are you our new neighbours?”

                “That’s right. My name’s Himchan.”

“Himchan? From the Matoki gang?” EXO weren’t the only gang of friends in high school. There was another one called Matoki. Matoki and EXO weren’t rivals or anything, but the two of them have never really interacted a lot.

“Yeah, you’re Lay right? From EXO?”

                “That’s right.”

“Small world, eh? Didn’t think we’d meet up again after high school.”

“Yeah, small world indeed.” Lay nodded. Himchan and Lay ended up chatting for hours. Himchan was funny and entertaining, he was also pretty darn cute. Lay thought he was a great friend and he did his best to make his new neighbor feel at home with his new surroundings.

Lay didn’t even realize Suho came home. He went in and saw Suho on the couch, flipping through the TV. “Suho…”he started, “I need to talk to you.”

                “About what?” he replied nonchalantly.

“What’s wrong, why do you sound so bitter?”

“Oh nothing. Just ignore me. I’m just crazy, or maybe it’s because you didn’t even notice I was home since you were so busy with Himchan.” Suho jeered at Himchan’s name.

“What? Suho I’m sorry I was so caught up, I was just welcoming him. I need to talk to you about Jessica.”

                “What about Jessica?”

“She…um….she…” Lay wasn’t sure how to put it in words but before he could continue, Suho got up and walked away.

                “Where are you going?”

“To sleep while you try and figure out what you have to say about Jessica.”

“Suho, why are you acting like this?”

                “I don’t know, ask Himchan .”

“Suho…” Lay didn’t have the energy to argue. That night, he slept on the couch. He couldn’t even bring himself to face Suho.

The next day, Suho acted as if nothing happened. Lay knew that Suho never got over it, he just wanted to move on and not talk about it. After that, Suho kept seeing Jessica, claiming that their business deals are coming to reality. In the mean time, Lay found company in Himchan.

Lay didn’t have feelings for Himchan, but it was nice to find a new friend. Suho however, did not approve. One day, the fight really turned bad.

“Stop acting like this! I didn’t even say anything about you and Jessica, why the hell are you so bitter about this?” Lay yelled at Suho in their bedroom.

“Don’t bring Jessica into this! She’s innocent!”

“Innocent my , don’t you see she still loves you? She’s trying to win you back!”

“That is so low Yixing. I can’t believe you’re using her as a scapegoat while you’re attracted to Himchan!”

“You are accusing me of CHEATING?!” Lay felt his heart rip at the seams.

                “Are you denying it?”

“Of course I am you idiot! I would never cheat on you!”

“I find that hard to believe. You could always get someone else to love you, you being so successful and all. Why settle for me, a lowly business man?”

“KIM JOONMYUN YOU ARE AN IDIOT!” Lay screamed at him.

“Then why are you hanging on?” Suho said bitterly. He crossed his arms and felt the sting of the tears. He saw Lay’s heart-broken expression and he bit his lip.

“Fine. Go back to Jessica. I can’t sleep with you tonight.” Lay grabbed his jacket and tried to walk away.

                “Xingxing, wait…”

“I’ll go over to Himchan’s then. Since that’s what you think I did, I’ll do it then.” Lay slammed the front door and ran away. He didn’t go to Himchan’s. Instead he ran straight over to Luhan’s house.

“Lay?” Luhan was startled to find his best friend standing at the door with tears running down his face.

“Oh Lulu…Suho and I…we…we…”Lay was too busy sobbing to even talk. Luhan pulled in his best friends and tried to comfort him.

That night, Suho slept on a cold, empty bed. He spread his arms to caress the empty spot. His Xingxing…what has he done? Maybe he was too harsh with him. For the first time, Suho cried himself to sleep.
