280 Days

Sooyoung stood in front of the mirror, looking at herself. She couldn’t deny it: she looked stunning in her white dress. It was a beautiful satin, sweetheart ball gown, that hugged her S line in all the right places.  Her hair was brought up in a tight bun, which was covered with a beautiful veil that cascaded its way down her back. In the corner of her eye, she caught her sister looking at her threw the reflection of the mirror and couldn’t help but blush.

“Look at my little sister all beautiful and ready for her wedding,” said Soojin, walking over to her and taking Sooyoung’s hands, squeezing them tightly. “I am sorry. I’ve failed you as a sister. I should be telling you how married life is …”

“No you haven’t,” interrupted Sooyoung “you are the best sister one could wish for. I am truly blessed,” she finished fighting back the tears.

“Oh baby don’t cry,” said Soojin, wiping her sisters’ tears. “Don’t cry.” Sooyoung gave a light chuckle while nodding and hugged her.

“I love you Soo.”

“I love you too Soo,” replied Soojin, hugging her baby sister as tight as she could. Everything had gone by so fast in the last few months. She was ever so happy for her sister, but a part of her couldn’t help but worry for her. After all, her parents had always told her to look out for Sooyoung and protect her. A task that even 22 years later she still took seriously. Their mother interrupted their moment by announcing the arrival of the guest. Soojin gave a last comforting squeeze and left Sooyoung to greet the guests. Sooyoung sat in the waiting room, greeting every guest with a warm smile whether they were friends of her parents, label mates or old friends from high school. Her smile faded a bit when she saw Victoria come in, with the rest of f(x). If Sooyoung looked stunning, so did Victoria. She couldn’t help but feel anger. Victoria had almost brought Kyuhyun and her apart the year before. Sooyoung hated herself for having so many bad feelings towards Victoria. She was a good person, beautiful, caring and loving, maybe that is why she didn’t like her. She was everything that she wasn’t thought Sooyoung. She still managed to smile and greeted her like an old friend would. After all she was her label mate, an Eonnie, and a close friend of Kyuhyun. Sooyoung thanked her lucky star for having Amber by her side whenever she felt those kinds of feelings. Amber had this natural glow that made her forget her worries.

Kyuhyun parked his car in a hurry, grabbed his belongings, and ran up the stairs of the church. Late. Of all the days to be late, he had to choose this one. He silently cursed, before finding himself face to face with Changmin.

“Where the hell were you?” asked Changmin, his eyes popping out of their orbit.

“I slept in,” grumbled Kyuhyun, pushing him away to make his way to the room that was designated as his. “Where is Soo? Does she know I am late?”

“No she doesn’t and she is in the waiting room, greeting the guests.”

“Oh good,” he replied, changing into his tuxedo.

Changmin sighted wondering how his friend could be so careless on such an important day. He then remembered what he had said the night before. Changmin needed answers. “So, uh, about last night.,” he stuttered.

“What about last night?”

“Your second thoughts?” he said, watching Kyuhyun button up his shirt. His hands were shaking and he had a hard time putting the right button in its corresponding hole.

“What second thoughts?” he asked, trying to calm down his breathing and gain a better control over his hands. “Oh? You mean the wine? Yeah, I called up the caterer this morning and he said he would try and find me enough bottles for tonight.”

“Huh? Wine? You were having second thoughts about the wine?” shouted Changmin.

“Well yeah. I want to have good wine at my wedding.” he said, finally fully dressed and waiting for the make up artist to start.

“What about Victoria?”

Kyuhyun smirked. “That was totally worth it, you should have seen your face.”

“Wait, you were trolling?” Kyuhyun closed his eyes, letting the make up artist do her magic, and nodded.

“Totally worth it,” he repeated.

“Cho Kyuhyun you son of a…”

“Hey! Don’t insult my mother, she is the one who gave birth to the wonderful being that I am.” Changmin considered straggling him to death, but before he got the chance to jump on him the Super Junior members had made their appearance. Changmin retreated and sat in silence, observing his best friend interact with s. He couldn’t understand how that brat was getting married in less than an hour and be a father by the end of the summer.

“You should go great the guest,” he said, with a light grumble. Kyuhyun nodded. A loud cheer came from his fellow band members.

“Fighting Kyuhyunie!” said Ryeowook, giving him two thumbs up.

“May God be with you,” shouted Siwon.

“There is no God, Siwon,” sighted Heechul.

“Shut up,” snapped Siwon ”Not here. We are in a church.”

“Don’t forget to breath!” snickered Sungmin.

“Our baby Kyu is all grown up,” said Eunhyuk, pretending to sob. Donghae and Shindong joined him and sobbed away as he left the room. Kyuhyun could only sight and wonder what he had done to deserve the Hyungs he had. He joined his and Sooyoung’s parents and helped them greet the guests.

“You are late,” hissed his father.

“I know, I am sorry” he mumbled.

“Don’t do it again,” scolded his father.

“I don’t have the intention of getting married again,” he replied, his eyes falling on Victoria who had her fingers interlaced with those of Changmin.

“Good luck mate,” Changmin said, giving him a wink.

“Good luck Kyuhyunie and congratulations,” said Victoria offering him her most beautiful smile.

“You better not,” grumbled his father.

“I won’t go back that path again, father.”

“Good.” All of a sudden, three grown up men appeared sobbing in front of him and his father abruptly interrupted their conversation.

“They grow up so fast,” lamented Eunhyuk.

“It feels like only yesterday he was a baby,” continued Donghae.

“My poor old heart,” joined Shindong, before pushing the two others to their seat. Nari gave him an apologetic look before, joining her husband.

“Is it too late to uninvite them?” asked Kyuhyun.

“Is it too late to uninvite you?” replied his father, pushing him towards the altar.

Sooyoung turned around to face her eight sisters. “It’s time, isn’t it?” she breathed out.

“It is,” said Tiffany nodding, “but before you go, you have to make your wedding vows to us.”

“Huh? Wedding vows to you guys?”

“Yes wedding vows to us,” she urged extending her hand for Sooyoung to take it. Sooyoung took it and so did the rest of the group, holding each other’s hand, forming a tight circle. Tiffany started before Sooyoung could say anything “Choi Sooyoung, promise that from this day forward you’ll be the happiest girl on earth.”

“I promise,” murmured Sooyoung, tightening her grip on Tiffany’s and Taeyeon’s hands.

Hyoyeon went on “Promise to never snob us, because you’ll be a married woman.”

Sooyoung chuckled “How could I? You girls are my life!”

“So you promise?”

“I promise,” acknowledged Sooyoung.

“Promise to never let anyone regret your decision of getting married with Kyuhyun,” said Yuri.

“I promise,” repeated Sooyoung.

“Promise to comeback to the dorm at least once a week,” said Yoona, fighting back the tears she was dying to let go.

“ I promise.”

Jessica looked in the eyes of her roommate, the person with whom she had shared so many late night talks. “Promise that there won’t be a day that you won’t think about us.”

“I promise,” replied Sooyoung, looking straight into her eyes, seeing the loneliness she had in them. A newfound loneliness which would follow her in their shared bedroom.

“Promise that you’ll call us if you have a problem, at whatever time of the night or day,” said Sunny.

“I promise.”

“Eonnie, promise to never have another heartbreak again,” mumbled Seohyun.

“I promise Maknae.” Sooyoung turned her gaze to her leader and waited for her last promise.

“As your leader, I can only beg you to comeback on stage with us and that one day we’ll be nine again”

“I promise,” she said fighting back the second waves of tears of the day “I truly do.” Taeyeon gave her a shy smile and a look that said it all: you better comeback. They all hugged her one last time, giving her their final words of encouragement.

“You are ready?” asked her mother.

“I think I am,” she answered, nodding.

“Good, I’ll see you on the other side then,” she said kissing her cheek before leaving.

“Geez mom makes it sound as it you are going towards your death.”

“Leave her,” interrupted their father “she is just nervous.”

“Okay kiddo, I guess it’s my turn then. Good luck, everything will be okay,” she said kissing her forehead.” Sooyoung watched her leave and turned around to face her father.

“Daddy?”

“Hey, I am here until the end. You are the one leaving me today, remember?”

“I am sorry,” she mumbled.

“For what?” he asked.

“For not being a good enough daughter.”

“What are you saying?” he asked, pulling her into a tight hug. “I am always proud of you. You are the best daughter in the world. So much that I had to fight to walk you down the aisle today.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, Lee Sooman wanted to do it. I told him he could be the ring bearer.”

Kyuhyun watched the members of Girls’ Generation enter the chapel and take their places. It could only mean one thing: it was almost time. He felt his hands shake again and tried his best to stop them. He found it ironic that being at the front of the church, with everyone watching his every move made him nervous, yet he had done countless live shows. His eyes wonder over the crowd. He found Yesung giving him his signature mysterious look. As usual he couldn’t quite figure out what his elder was trying to convey to him. He decided not to try in figure him out and kept scanning the room until his eyes fell on Donghae and Seohyun. Both were seated closely next to each other. He looked at the odd couple whispering to each other. He watched as Donghae slowly took her hand and how she became flustered at the contact of their hands. There was something in the way they looked at each other that made him wonder. It was the same dumbfounded look that he and Sooyoung had when they were together. Kyuhyun didn’t know how long he had been staring, but Donghae caught his gaze and broke out a sob, much to the distress of Seohyun who didn’t understand what was going on. As if on cue, Shindong and Eunhyuk joined their companion. Kyuhyun smirked; Donghae’s sobs weren’t enough to distract him of what he had just witnessed. He had some tormenting investigation to do after that. The sobs were abruptly stopped by the front doors of the chapel being opened. From those doors emerged his mother and Sooyoung’s. Both dressed in their traditional hanbok. His mother wearing a blue one and Sooyoung’s a pink one. He watched them come down the aisle, trying to calm his breathing and anxiousness. Why was he so nervous anyways? He asked himself. Maybe because he knew the next couple coming out of those doors would be Sooyoung and her father. He sighted trying to imagine what she would look like. Sooyoung had categorically refused to give him any sort of hints on what her dressed looked like. Only that it was white, long and that she looked beautiful in it. Not much to work with he had grumbled when she told him. Before he knew it both mothers had made their way to the front of the chapel, pulling him out of his thoughts. His mother mouthed him a Fighting before gaining her seat.  His gaze went back to the back of the chapel upon hearing the traditional Wedding March. His heart missed a beat when he saw Sooyoung come in with her father. If he had any second thoughts, they had all vanished in a second. He felt the anxiousness, which had been following him all day transform itself into his normal over-confidence. He locked his eyes into hers, managing to catch her rounded cheeks become crimson. Ironically, they both smirked at the same time, making Sooyoung become redder.

Sooyoung looked down, breaking her moment with Kyuhyun feeling, her cheeks heating up. Where her eyes fell upon wasn’t better: Kyuhyun’s crotch. Good God Sooyoung of all the days and places to have the dirtiest thoughts she told herself.  Please don’t move your legs or hips she begged him in silence. As if he had read her thoughts and out of pure evilness Kyuhyun shifted his weight from one feet to another, momentarily revealing his bulge. Sooyoung bit her lip trying not to give her dirty thoughts away.

“Are you okay?” whispered her father.

“Yeah, I am perfect,” she replied in the same low hushed tone.

“Good, because it’s show time,” he said, leading her into the last few steps separating them from Kyuhyun.  Sooyoung turned around to face her father one last time. He gave her a sad smile and gave her hand to Kyuhyun.

“Take good care of her young man.”

“I will Sir. I promise,” he said, taking her hand. Sooyoung looked at her dad walk away and turned herself towards Kyuhyun.

“Ready?” he asked.

“Ready,” she replied.

“You look beautiful, by the way.”

“I told you I would,” she answered bowing to the priest and letting the ceremony begin. They stood next to each other the whole ceremony, occasionally giving each other shy glances, sending both of them in a flustered fury. Finally, they all turned around to await the rings arrival. Neither of them could hide their surprise when they saw Lee Sooman arrive with the rings. Before he had the time to make it to the alter Kyuhyun leaned close to Sooyoung and whispered.

“I thought it was your little cousin Jinseo that was going to do it.”

“No. I thought it was your little cousin Jinseo that was doing it.”

“I don’t have a litter cousin named Jinseo.”

“Well neither do I,” she flatly answered.

“Sooman,” hissed Kyuhyun, just as Lee Sooman had made his way to the front, with a wide smirk.

“How did my two little prankers appreciate my prank? Since I can’t walk either of you down the aisle, this is my way of giving two of my best artists away to each other. Please always be happy,” he said handing the priest the rings, before joining his seat back, not letting them interfere.

“It is time,” the priest announced, looking at Kyuhyun. “Cho Kyuhyun, do you take Choi Sooyoung to be your wife? Do you promise to be true to her in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, to love her and honour her all the days of your life?”

“I do,” replied Kyuhyun, taken aback by the quickness of the question.

“Choi Sooyoung, do you take Cho Kyuhyun to be your husband? Do you promise to be true to him in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, to love him and honour him all the days of your life?”

“I do,” replied Sooyoung, with a trembling voice. Kyuhyun smirked.

“Look at you being all nervous,” he whispered while the priest was preparing the rings. Sooyoung didn’t get a chance to defend herself, as the priest was already handing over the ring to Kyuhyun. Keeping his smirk, Kyuhyun slid the ring onto her left ring finger.

“Choi Sooyoung, take this ring as a sign of my love and fidelity.” Sooyoung nodded in amazement at how fast the ceremony had gone. She slowly grabbed Kyuhyun’s ring and slid it on his finger. While taking his hand, she couldn’t quit determine if it was shaking or not. It was definitely missing its normal assurance. She then started repeating the same words he had spoken only moments ago.

“Cho Kyuhyun, take this ring as a sign of my love and fidelity.”

“I now declare your husband and wide,” said the priest.” You may kiss the bride.” Sooyoung felt a moment of exhilaration, which was quickly doubled when Kyuhyun crashed his lips on hers. A kiss to which she responded. She quickly pulled away when she felt tears that weren’t hers streaming down her face.

“Are you crying?” she asked.

“Shut up Choi,” he said, trying to wipe them away before facing the crowded church with his most prized possession: Sooyoung.
