Everything was spinning. Standing up seemed to be a thing of impossibility to me, but I was still trying to get up. After several futile attempts I finally did manage to get up, only to end up back on the hard floor.

My eyes tried to observe my surroundings, but my eyelids were so heavy that they kept trying to close at every single opportunity. The impressions of the place I was being kept at only slowly managed to get
through to my conscience.

There were people. Many of them. Most of them were wearing suits and sat around small, round tables featuring a small lamp standing in the middle. These lamps seemed to be the only thing to more or less illuminate the room. They all looked at me excitedly. Eyed me up and exchanged a few words with their neighbors.

Dull voices reached my ears but I couldn’t understand the words actually spoken. Was this even the language I spoke? I made an effort to understand individual scraps of words, but it was no use. Too many
voices were talking at the same time and the fact that everything sounded like spoken through cotton not a big help either. Nonetheless I managed, with an unbelievable focus on my ears, to understand my
surroundings a little more clearly after a while.

I made an attempt to get up again, but before I could even properly think about it, I felt two strong hands gripping my shoulders and pushing me back down.

Panic rose in me. Where was I? Who were these people? Why were they all staring at me?

„It seems as if this splendid specimen we have here is quite the fighter!” shouted a person next to me and the crowd began to laugh.
The people at the tables joined in and soon, the air was filled with loud laughter and occasional shouts. I didn’t understand what was happening here. Had this person been speaking about me just now? What exactly was the intended meaning of “splendid specimen”?

The person next to me bowed closer to me and lifted my chin a little, turning my face to the light. I tried to struggle, but he was stronger. A wide smile spread on his face and continued talking in the same
lilting voice as before: “As you can see, ladies and gentlemen, there literally are no visual blemishes on this specimen. The age is in favor of him as well. Sweet 21 years old. I assure you that this specimen is
healthy and in excellent shape.”

The person let go of my chin, making me slump down to the floor again. I wanted to get away, but my legs still felt as if they weren’t my own. Still, I tried to get in an upright position. But my legs were no match for my own weight and only held out for a few seconds. I expected a slight pain in my knees, but there was none. It almost seemed as if my body was too tired to experience anything else than pain.
