Chapter 19

            An hour and a half have passed and things weren’t going so well between HaeNi and DuJun. They can’t talk casually without HaeNi replying with a sarcastic or cold remark. DuJun said, “Yah, are you going to keep doing this? Aren’t you supposed to be my fiancée?  And I thought we were supposed to get to know each other?” HaeNi looked up from her drink and said, “Technically speaking I never agreed to this. And yes I am going to keep doing this. And technically speaking this IS getting to know other since I am speaking my opinion.” DuJun then asked with a serious look surprising HaeNi, “What’s so wrong with me? What did I do to you?” HaeNi replied avoiding his piercing look, “N-nothing. I’m just not fond of the idea of being your fiancée or being engaged at all.” DuJun then said, “Well, you can’t do anything about that now. Now, can you?” HaeNi didn’t say anything. DuJun continued, “Or are you going to oppose your parents? And my parents?” HaeNi remained silent.

            HaeNi then suddenly asked, “Have you ever been in a relationship?” DuJun replied shocked by the sudden question, “Mwot?” HaeNi looked at him with a serious look, “Have you ever been in a relationship?” DuJun regained his composure and replied, “You can say that I have. But it wasn’t a good one since she was only with me because of my wealth.” HaeNi then confessed, “I have never been in a relationship.” DuJun replied shocked, “Chincha? I don’t believe you.” HaeNi replied, “Do it look like I’m lying? You can believe it or not.” DuJun replied, “I’m not saying that I don’t believe you. It’s just hard to believe it because of your looks and family background.” HaeNi then said, “I can’t believe I didn’t even experience my first love, relationship, or anything before I get married. I just skipped everything. How depressing!” DuJun the smirked, “You can experience it with me. I AM your fiancé.” HaeNi scoffed, “Against my wishes.” DuJun defended himself, “Hey, I’m actually not a bad person if you would get to know me.” HaeNi said, “Of course you’d say that about yourself.” DuJun said, “I am being very serious here.” HaeNi said, “Whatever.”

            DuJun then said, “So…when did you meet EunHee and MinKyung?” HaeNi replied, “EunHee and I are childhood friends. We knew each other since infants because our families are best friends and business partners. We met MinKyung-ah when we were in pre-school. But of course we weren’t friends with her at first. We became acquainted with her around the end of our pre-school year. She was bullied a lot because of her family background. As you know, she isn’t rich. We first talked to her when we saw her sitting by herself at a corner in recess while everyone else is playing. Her face was dirtied, her clothes were torn and ruined from the bullying, and her hair was messed up.
