Chapter 2
Happy Ending
He doesn't get transported to the present. Instead time stops and Chen is sitting on his bed.
"Why are you here?"
"Why shouldn't I be here?"
Luhan nose-dives into his blanket. He's too tired to deal with this imp-fairy creature.
"Why am I still here?"
"Why wouldn't you be?"
"Aaaargh!"
Chen skillfully avoids the pillow he throws. Dusting his tuxedo the fairy laments, "Is this how you treat someone who helps you get back your man?"
Luhan watches as Chen picks up the camera on the bed, pressing some buttons and placing his index on the shutter.
"So what, after all this you're going to give up and return empty-handed? What was I thinking, really, granting a wish of someone so pathetic."
"...He looked so happy. When he was choosing the ring, and when he talked about her. I'm happy for him too. I'll be happy for him."
Chen sneers, "Listen to yourself talk. Is this some kind of a soap opera? Since when were you able to lie so well? Seventeen years old? Eighteen? 'Luhan who will do anything to get what he wants', I don't see it."
You'll do anything to get what you want. Hey, don't get mad! I don't think it's a bad thing! I like you for being like that. You're tough. Hahahaha.
"Stop deceiving yourself. Being the good guy doesn't mean you'll get a good ending."
"What do you want me to do? I've gone back to the past and wasted my chances, all of it. I'm a coward, I didn't do anything right, couldn't fix my mistakes. Even I'm tired of myself, and still-I still want to be with him. Although I know he yearns to have a perfect family, I don't want him to get married. I want me to be happy too!"
His palms are hurting from fingernails digging into the skin, but Luhan hasn't felt as light for a gruesome long time. Chen looks at him, seemingly pleased at what he just heard.
"Ask," his voice was smug when he enunciates, in english, "and it shall be given."
The shutter clicks and the flash goes off. Luhan closes his eyes in reflex. He's still in his room but Chen is nowhere to be seen.
"Come out please."
No response.
"Is this some kind of a joke? Are you saying that I'm stuck here now? A month in the past?"
For a few seconds nothing moves. Then his door opens.
"That wasn-Mom?"
"I heard some noises. Were you on the phone?"
"No. I mean not anymore."
"Alright then. You can meet Yifan, he's waiting outside."
Luhan tries to think of an excuse to refuse. Not a single thing comes out, however, even when his mother rises her eyebrows at the lack of response.
"He's been visiting non-stop since three days ago. You only came back from out of town this morning. I don't know what happened but at least you could show your face, and tell him what you want to say directly."
Three days?
"Wait. Mom. What date is today?"
"Did you go to a remote island?" she jibes, but answers anyway. "It's the third of July."
Immediately Luhan pales. He has moved a week forward. Third of July was supposed to be the day Yifan proposed to his girlfriend.
For the benefits of those who haven't watched the drama - and since the synopsis from internet might not mention the important details - I'm going to do some explanation here :D
So Chen is a fairy that enables Luhan to go back in time, but just like everything nowadays terms and conditions apply lol. Luhan can only go back in time when a photo in Kris' wedding slideshow features him. He will travel a while back before the photo was taken and come back to the present when a photo of him is taken - most of the time the photo that'll be put in the slideshow. His regret is that he never even confessed his feelings to Kris, and the journey back is basically him trying to change the past and prevent Kris from getting married. The cycle will repeat until either Luhan succeeds or there's no more photo of him in the slideshow. I don't know about the Korean ver since I've never watched it, but 'Hallelujah Chance!' is the spell the fairy insists the main character must say before he gets transported to the past. Aaand that's all of it :D
I hope this would encourage you readers to go and watch the drama. It's one of my favorite J-dramas of all time \O/
I'll try to spare some time to watch the Korean version too since my brother says it's a pretty good adaptation of the Japanese one and wow_fantastic_baby adds to the good review (thanks for commenting ♥)
All in all thank you for subscribing and chapter 3 will likely be up tomorrow!
