Chapter Three

Counting Baby Steps

Eli wiped away the sweat from his brow with the back of his hand. He had just finished his daily workout. He huffed, trying to regain his breath as he made his way up to his apartment room, which he shared with Kevin. Eli fumbled with the keys as he inserted it into the doorknob. With a click the door unlocked and he was about to turn the knob but a loud crash could be heard on the other side of the door. His hand froze in place while his heart quickened and his mind raced. There were only two people with keys into the house and that was Kevin and himself. Kevin was out playing bridesmaid with Yoona and the girls, which left Eli baffled. There shouldn’t be anyone in the house as the only other person that could be it was himself and he was clearly not in the apartment. The only other explanation was that they were being robbed.

What is there to take in our apartment? Eli thought to himself. It’s not like we have anything worth taking. We barely have enough to live off of.

Even so, Eli wasn’t one to allow himself to get robbed under his watch. Summoning the courage, Eli quietly pushed the door open and entered. He slipped off his shoes with ease and stealthily stalked down the hall, his hands held up in front of him. After years of taekwondo, Eli was more than capable of defending himself…and throwing a few offensive punches. Eli paused at the corner, his ears straining to hear movements in the kitchen, which was the first room at the end of the hall. When he didn’t hear anything he frowned slightly. He was sure the crash came from the kitchen, as it sounded like glass breaking from outside the door. Curious Eli peeked from behind the corner just as a figure emerged from the other side. The figure crashed into Eli and both of them jumped back, letting out a yelp in surprise. Eli was the first to recover from the shock and was about to land a crushing blow to the head when he noticed who was at the receiving end of his fist. “Aish!” Eli exclaimed, dropping his fists down to his side. “What the heck are you doing home? I thought you were out with the girls. And here I thought you were some kind of thief?”

Kevin rolled his eyes, placing a hand over his racing heart. “Me? I thought you were a thief, sneaking around the house like that! And what’s there to take? The most valuable thing here is the toaster.”

Eli let out a chuckle, not wanting let Kevin now just how terrified he actually was. The two were quiet as they tried to recuperate themselves after the little scare. “Seriously, what are you doing home so early? I thought you were with the girls helping pick out flowers?”

As soon as Kevin’s face fell, Eli knew that maybe he shouldn’t have joked about the whole Yoona-Wedding-Love triangle situation. “I don’t want to talk about it.” Kevin said before turning back into the kitchen where he absent-mindedly made some coffee.

Eli glanced at the garbage to find a broken cup, which had shattered when Kevin clumsily dropped it on the floor since his mind wasn’t paying attention to what was happening in front of him. Immediately Eli knew something major had happened. Kevin made coffee but he hates it. He hates the bitterness of the drink, which wasn’t too surprising as Kevin was the sweetest guy you will come across in your life. He only drank coffee when he was feeling down and bitter. “Alright, what’s up?” Eli questioned as he took a seat on the stool overlooking the kitchen counter. “The last time I’ve seen you this glum was when Jessica dumped your sorry .”

Kevin glared over his cup of coffee and if looks could kill…Eli would’ve already been six foot under and one foot through the next life. “Agh, why would you even bring that up?” Kevin groaned.

Eli smirked. “Because I like watching you suffer.” Ignoring Kevin’s death glare, Eli continued.  “It’s not everyday I get to see you all dark and depressed instead of your ever-so-cheerful and bubbly you.”

Kevin didn’t look impressed but nevertheless, he couldn’t keep quiet. Eli had always been Kevin’s pillar of support and rarely did they ever keep secrets from each other. Besides, Kevin had always gone to Eli when he had girl problems. Kevin hated to admit it but Eli was Dr. Love. He had been in way more relationships than Kevin could count…or remember. Eli was always helpful and gave out good advice…that is after he finished teasing Kevin for his lack of girl and relationship knowledge. “Yoona’s getting married in a month…and I don’t know what to do anymore.” Kevin confessed.

Eli’s eyes widened in surprise. “A month!?” He exclaimed. Eli leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms across his chest as he couldn’t help but let out a “wow” of disbelief. “A month? Really?” Eli repeated, letting out an impressed whistle. “If I were them I would try to prolong the death sentence.” He mumbled the last part mostly to himself.

Eli hated the idea of marriage and settling down almost as much as the Grinch hated Christmas…in fact Eli was the Grinch of marriage. To him, he thought that marriage was a ridiculous idea. Why did one have to throw a grand wedding, spending hundreds of thousands on a cake, suit and dress, rings, food and drinks to such trivial things as tablecloths and silverware just to show one’s love? And why would he have to commit to one person? There are millions of girls in the world, what was that saying? “There are plenty more fish in the sea?” Why just catch one? It was no fun and where was the challenge in that? He never stayed with just one girl and to be honest, his relationship with Sunny is the longest he’s ever been in. Who would have imagined he would last so long? Rather who would have imagined that Sunny would be able to last this long and actually put up with Eli and his ways?

Eli wouldn’t deny that he was a ladies man in fact he didn’t care one bit of his playboy reputation. He didn’t want to live a boring life. His life was never normal to begin with. What kind of parents would abandon a newborn child? From what people had told him, Eli was left alone in a department store, crying his little lungs out. Luckily for him, the President of the department store had a kind heart and without a moment’s hesitation, had brought him home. He was grateful of Mr. Woo and the Woo family’s kindness, how they took him in and treated him like family. He’s been scolded along with Kevin, he’s been showered with love just as equal as Kevin, nothing more and nothing less, to the Woo’s, Eli was family.

“So what’s the game plan?” Eli asked, getting straight to the point.

“What game plan? There is no game plan, that’s the point!” Kevin exclaimed in frustration, as he dropped his head against the table in defeat. “I thought that if I was around her more maybe she’d see that Donghae isn’t the one for her but me. What a stupid plan! We’ve been together for the past seven years and nothings changed. I was stupid to think that I had a chance.”

Kevin never really gave himself credit. Ever since they were little, Kevin always lacked the confidence in himself but Eli on the other hand, had twice as much belief in Kevin to make up the lack of he had in himself. In this time Kevin needed help and Eli wasn’t about to abandon the closest person he has to a brother. “Yo, listen up.” Kevin lifted his head up from the table. “This is what you’re going to do.” Eli said. “You are going to seduce Yoona—“

Kevin’s eyes widened. “Seduce?” He exclaimed.

Maybe seduce was the wrong word to use…Kevin can’t even seduce a fish even his life depended on it. “I meant try to win Yoona over. Show her how much you care about her. Show her that you have all the qualities that makes a great husband. Just keep doing what your doing. Donghae won’t be taking part of the wedding process right? You said he went ahead to Hong Kong until the wedding for pre-opening preparations right? It’ll be a piece of cake than. No girl wants to a husband who won’t be there in her most important time. They want someone they can depend on. Bam! That’s where you come in. She’ll have to fall for you.”

Kevin who was listening intently to the plan nodded his head. “And what if that doesn’t work?”

Eli grinned. “Plan B: Kidnap her the night of her wedding. You’ll scale the side of a building with her in tow and show everyone in the world that she belongs to you.”

Kevin rolled his eyes but he couldn’t help but laugh at Eli’s attempt to cheer him up. King Kong had been their favorite movie ever since they were little.

Eli felt a sense of relief wash over him as Kevin’s laugh filled the room. As much as he loved to tease and annoy him, Eli hated when Kevin was hurt, both emotionally and physically. Mentally giving himself a pat on the shoulder for a job well done, Eli stood up. “Cheer up.” He said, giving Kevin a pat on the shoulder. “I don’t need you dampening the mood before I go on my date.”

“Ah, mianhe.” Kevin apologized, something bothering him in the back of his mind as he felt like he had to tell Eli something but shrugged it off, as he couldn’t quite remember…”Be good on your date!” Kevin yelled after him. “I don’t need you ruining my chances with Yoona or another reason for Jessica to hate me more!”

Something that Kevin and Eli learned quickly was that girls liked to stick together…for everything. Be it going to the bathroom or teaming up against a guy. And apparently if they were mad at a guy, they were mad at all the guys. It was just women thing.

“Ya!” Eli yelled back. “I’m good at handling women! It’s just you with the girl problems!”

Chapter 3: Waahh, I like it if Kevin really seduces Yoona! Something like shoving her to the wall and kiss her right then and there. Though I think it's not Yoona that will fall for his charms when he do that and we all know who it is.

Chapter 2: Oh poor Kevin.. He's still had hopes that Yoona's wedding will be canceled but it seems to get worsr on his part. Wait, does Jessica knows about Kevin's crush on Yoona or it just she sensed it? Since they were in relationship before, I thought maybe Kevin told Jess about it.

I wish Kevin will try to get back with Jessica... Go Kev, woo her and be badass enough to win her heart again!
