Chapter 7

Wings of the World

Chapter 7

"Ji Eun ah we got tickets to a musical tonight"

"But omma..."

“Grab your dinner before coming home"

"De, arasso"

Ji Eun sighed as she ended the conversation with her mother, feeling slightly
disappointed that she had forgotten her birthday. She had looked forward to
having a meal with her family just like they always would, but it seemed like
this year would be an exception and she'd be all alone.

"Where are you? Why are you not picking up your boss's calls? ><"

Kyu Jong sent a text message to Ji Eun after she failed to pick up his calls. He
had intended to give her a surprise that night, but got a surprise instead when
she replied with a message saying that she was watching a movie in the cinema.

"At this hour? This girl... don't you have to at least eat before catching a movie..."

Ji Eun was walking along the street after the movie when she felt a tap on her
shoulder and turned around to find Kyu Jong standing in front of her, with some
balloons and a bouquet of flowers in his hand.

“Happy Birthday”

“Oppa? Komawo…”

“Yah, I’ve been waiting for the past one hour and thirty five minutes and
walking behind you since you left the cinema ten minutes ago”

“Really?! Miane…”

“Kaja, I’m hungry”

Patting her as she lowered her head at a loss over how to respond, Kyu Jong
pulled her along and headed to a restaurant.

“You haven’t had dinner? But didn’t you have a dinner appointment with
someone… Ms Lee?”

“I wanted to surprise her but she gave me a surprise instead by going for
a movie alone, Ms Lee Ji Eun”

“Oh… I thought no one else knew…”

"Pabo"

"Can't you say something nicer? It's my birthday today after all"

"Arasso… you're really pretty tonight"

"Yah Kim Kyu Jong!"

"I really meant it"

---

Kyu Jong tossed around his bed, unable to get to sleep after sending Ji Eun home
that night. He wasn’t sure if he had done the right thing by confessing to her. She
was still recovering from the break up with his best friend after all, even though
she never once spoke about it again after crying her heart out that day.

Young Saeng had given him a call and he made his way over on his request.
He was confused at first, but gradually understood his intention for doing so.
And unknowingly grew to adore her very much.

Flashback

“Ji Eun ah, will you consider… giving me a chance?”

“Kyu oppa…”

“You don’t have to give me an answer now, I’ll wait”

End of Flashback

Ji Eun recalled the first time she met Kyu Jong. And the subsequent times he
would appear whenever she was left alone when Young Saeng had to rush off.
She didn't understand why he willingly did so, but felt comforted to have him
around whenever she needed someone.

She couldn’t figure out what went wrong between Young Saeng and her, and his
decision to marry the other girl. She later found out from her mother that the company
was facing some difficulties and he had no
choice but to do so.
Despite being upset at first, she soon accepted it after sorting
out her thoughts.
Her mother had reminded her right from the start to be prepared
for such a day to come.
They belonged to two different worlds after all.

And now she’s in a dilemma, whether or not to risk another similar relationship.
Perhaps things would be different?
Now that she had regained her sight and is more independent than ever...

"What are you thinking about?"

They were seated by the beach as the sun set, and Kyu Jong noticed that Ji Eun
was unusually silent throughout and seemed deeply immersed in her own thoughts.

"I never thought I'd see it again. It's really pretty, the sunset"

"We'll come here again more often if you like it"

She nodded as she rested her head on Kyu Jong's shoulder, feeling thankful for
being able to enjoy the beauty of nature once again, and having him by her side
all this while. Kyu Jong on the other hand, was feeling overjoyed that she had
finally agreed to give themselves a chance.

---

"I'll give you a call after the meeting, remember to "

"Grab some food in case I'm hungry from waiting.
I know oppa, you'd better get going or you'll be late"

Ji Eun pushed Kyu Jong towards the door before he could go on again, and
he swiftly kissed her on the cheeks and made off before she could protest.

"He forgot his phone again..."

She was about to leave the office at the end of the day when she heard Kyu Jong's
mobile phone ringing. She looked around and found it buried under some papers
on his desk. Upon hearing it ring again almost immediately after the first call, Ji Eun
decided to answer on his behalf in case it was something urgent.

“Kyu Jong ah, don’t forget Young Saeng hyung’s anniversary tomorrow”

“Jungmin oppa? Young Saeng’s anniversary… what are you talking about?”

“Oh… Ji Eun ah…”

Her heart went weak upon hearing Jungmin’s message over the phone, but she
struggled to remain calm as she attempted to get an explanation from him.

Was she the only one kept in the dark about it all this while?

“Oppa, don’t keep it from me anymore…please?”
