Hyerin’s POV

AT HAN RIVER>>>>>>>

Han River, It’s been years since I last saw this river. It was the river where me and a friend made a promise to each other that when we meet again, we’ll get together and live a happy life together. I know it’s childish. But the thought of it still makes me smile. I miss him. It’s been 12 years.

He was my only friend back then. He never hang out with those kids that are as old as him. Instead, he hangs out with me. We always played childish games with me and my sister. We were neighbours and we lived here near the river.

I was 6 and he was 10 when he left. He loved me as much as I loved him. It was puppy love. But we took it seriously. We made a promise to each other. I don’t even know if it was still valid since Kim Jongin came to my life. Aish, you should forget about that byuntae!

He moved to China and I never saw him again.

Me and Luhan sat in a bench. I didn’t speak. I was trying to bring back all the memories I had. They were indeed happy memories. I smiled like an idiot staring at the river.

“Why are you smiling?” He asked while laughing at me.

“Why? Is it bad to smile?” I pouted.

“Aniya” He said calmly.

We watched the sunset. It was still beautiful as ever.

“We should be going, it’s getting dark” I smiled and got up on my seat.

“Do you remember me?” He asked.

“Why? Do I have to remember you? By any chance, did I know you from before?” I answered back with a question.

“Never mind” He said coldly, disappointed.

I wonder what he’s talking about?

FAST FORWARD>>>>>>>

I got out of the bus in a different stop since I don’t want him to know that I had to go to the SM Building.

I feel like I’m getting followed. My heartbeat raised and I walked faster. The shadow figure caught up with me and before I know it, it was in front of me. I flinched but I held back my scream because after a few seconds, I realised it was Kai.

“Hyerin ssi? Why are you here? Walking alone? In the dark?” He asked while looking at me with a generous smile.

“You, why are you here? I told you to stay away from me” I said coldly and walked faster.

He jogged to catch up with me. “How was the date Hyerin ssi? Did anything happened between you and hyung?” He teased. But I felt deep inside me that it wasn’t a teasing question. I just knew he was asking seriously.

I stopped. “Why? Are you jealous?” I smiled sarcastically and he paused for a while.

He turned his back on me and walked in a faster pace not allowing to catch up with him. Who said I’ll follow him? Tsk, COMPLICATED ERT.

But is he really jealous? Why didn’t he answer? I wonder…

Kai’s POV

My heart stopped when she asked that question. I was thinking of the answer. But I think this is not the right time to answer her question. She’s still angry with me. Not yet, not yet. I guess she found out that my teasing question wasn’t a teasing question after all. Very clever of her. How will I say sorry? I can’t think of a better way to say sorry. I always turn into an instant ert when I say sorry. Should I be not all touchy and nice? But, that’s not my thing and I prefer to keep the badass me. Why am I so stupid? Until now, I don’t know how to say sorry. Kai, you’re turning the difficulty of this game way, way harder.

Hyerins’s POV

AT THE DORM>>>>>>>

I let out a deep sigh. When will they change? Their dirty habit of pissing off their cleaner never faded away. I started to do my daily routine. Put this there, put this here, scrub here, wash there. I am quite used to the job but I can’t seem to calm myself down seeing their dorm every night, filthy. Last room, Kim Jongin’s… I nervously opened the door and turned the lights on. He was startled when he saw me and he hid the object that he was making behind his back.

“Uh… You’re here” He said awkwardly.

“What’s up? What are you hiding?” I said while trying to peek at what his making.

“Nothing. Don’t mind me. Please clean my room later. I’m still doing something” He said while gesturing me to go away.

I sighed. “Fine, call me when you’re ready”

He smiled and wave.

Kai’s POV

I was making something special for her. I wanted to apologize quickly so I can make my next moves.

One night when I was lecturing her about algebra, she mentioned she likes stuffed animals. I was thinking of making a hand-made one for her. I know this is not my thing but I have to do it because of these feels I have for her.

While he was having his little date with my cute friend Luhan, I was actually out, buying stuff for my hand-made stuff animals. I think I’ll make a pig because her room was filled with pink stuff.

What I’m making was going well I suppose. Done stitching!

I was going out of the room to call her but I saw her drop the broom as she saw Luhan out of the elevator. Uh-oh, she’s dead.

Hyerin’s POV

Stubborn Kai, I wanted to clean that room already so I can go home and relax but look at me! I’m waiting here like a fool for what-God-knows his doing. Dust is still everywhere. I guess I’ll sweep that and this and ! The elevator door just opened. It was Luhan. He had a shock face while pointing at me. I dropped the broom and laughed.

“Oh, so you’re here” I awkwardly laughed and smiled at him.

He nodded, still shock of what he saw.

“By any chance, do you have time for coffee?” He pointed at the lift while still staring at me awkwardly.

I nodded and we came down.

AT THE CAFETERIA>>>>>>>

He bought coffee for me and we sat down where we ate a while ago.

“What were you doing at exo-k’s dorm?” He asked after he took a sip from his coffee.

“Well, you see? I’m.. I…” I words couldn’t form. I was too embarrassed to say it.

“I’m?” He continued while waiting for my answer.

“I’m exo-k’s cleaner” I manage to say all of those in a second.

He took a sip but burnt his tongue as I say the words.

“You’re exo-k’s cleaner?” He asked again.

“Nae” I looked down. “Please don’t tell the others” I whispered.

“Okay, but why were you doing such jobs? I mean, your dad works as a business man before right?” He asked but he was shocked himself letting those words slip out of his mouth.

“Mwo? How did you know he was a business man before?!” I asked. Why does he know about my dad???

He coughed. “Can’t you remember me?” He pointed out his face. Yes, I know his angelic and his face is just so,so, SHUT UP HYERIN!

I shook my head. “I think, I’ve never seen you before”

“You really did forget about me Yerin…” He had his disappointed face again.

Wait? What? The only person who calls me Yerin was Luhan. Luhan my childhood friend. The one I promised that if we ever meet again, we’ll be together forever. Luhan could not pronounce my name right because his words are a bit gibberish when we were young and he wasn’t fluent at Korean before. Is he… By any chance, that Ruhan? I called Luhan “Ruhan” because he couldn’t say my name right so I didn’t say his name right as well. Oh my God. Are we really destined?

“Ruhan” That was the only word that spat out of my mouth. I don’t know what I’m feeling now. I’m going back to the past. I feel happy, excited and overwhelmed.

His eyes widen. “So you remember me, Yerin?” He smiled widely standing up his chair.

I nodded. I punched his shoulder lightly. “You look so different now, Ruhan” I smiled while our eyes were exchanging love hearts. Wait, what??????

He hugged me tightly and I hugged him back. Are my feelings for him still the same? My heart was pounding really hard. I saw Kai with a childish stuffed animal and he threw it to the ground as soon as he saw us. What was that all about? Was that for me? Why do I feel guilty?

“I missed you Yerin” He whispered in my ears.

I smiled whilst still hugging him. Ruhan, you’re back. I am not joking, but this has to be one of the happiest days of my life.
