Remembering Kevin
Day 237
I woke up late today. I had tape on my wrist, it looks as if the nurse did my injection while I was sleeping… odd.
I stretched my arms behind my head, I felt so tense.
“Visitors.” I heard her screechy voice from behind the door.
“Oh.. Go ahead and let them in.” I said shocked. Visitors? Two days in a row? Impossible..
“Hi Kevin…” It was Kiseop.
“Sup Kevin.” AJ.
“Hey.” Hoon.
“KEVIN!!!!” Alexander….
Xander came over and hugged me, tugging my wires. He wasn’t Mir so I could yell at him for it…
“XANDER! Watch it.. See these? It hurts when you pull them like that…” I said, at first a bit angry then I felt a little sorry for it.
Alexander gave me his cute face, wide eyed and pouted lips. I leaned up to reach out for another hug which he gladly gave me.
“Hey guys. Why are you here today?” I asked curiously.
“To see you. It’s been forever and..”
“We miss you Kevin…” Kiseop finished AJ’s sentence.
“Where’s Eli? Dongho? Soohyun? Kibum? Why aren’t they here…” I asked frustrated. The ones I wanted to see most weren’t here…
“Kibum is out of the country.. Didn’t you know?” Hoon confessed.
“No.. nobody has said a thing to me.” I told him honestly.
It was silent for awhile until Kiseop spoke up.
“Dongho had a family funeral to attend. Soohyun is with Kibum…”
“And Eli?” My last question.
Nobody wanted to answer, I could feel it.
“Ah. I see, he’s with Mina…” I told them sincerely, I saw nods which confirmed my allegations.
After another long silent pause, I began to strike up useless chatter with them.
“Take a seat around the room, don’t be strangers. What have you guys been up to? It’s been weeks you know…” I told them.
Each one was telling me about what has been going on, their life without me.. Etcetera, etcetera.
They began to joke and laugh, which I had to fake on the outside because on the inside, it was killing me. We were soon interrupted by that damned nurse…
“Okay! Time for another round Kev!” She said happily.
Kev? Kev… please woman…
“What is she talking about Kevin?” Kiseop asked me.
The nurse walked over to my bed, changing that stupid bag again, and sliding the needle number one into my arm.
I heard a slight sound from Kiseop and Alexander.
Needle number two went in.
A second squeal.
Last needle, the largest one, needle number three.
I could sense their winces and tightly shut eyes even without seeing them.
The nurse left the room and told them they only had a little while longer to stay.
“Does that happen every week?” Hoon asked.
“Everyday.” I confessed. Kiseop and Xander took me in for a long embrace, I felt their tears on my shoulders.
They act like it hurts THEM. When in reality it’s I who has to undergo these painful injections everyday of my life.
“I think we’re gonna go Kevin.” AJ admitted.
I gave a nod and received hugs from each of them.
“Please.. Don’t blame Eli. He really loves you Kevin.” Alexander said before shutting the door behind them.
I mumbled to myself… “If he really loved me, he would pick me over her.”
I saw a letter on the ground.
“”From Xander…” I read aloud.
The note said:
Dear Kevin,
I know it’s been tough going through what you have to go through, without your best friend. But please don’t be angry with him. He loves you, he tells me all the time that he wants to see you. It’s Mina. She never lets him go anywhere and he doesn’t want to bring her when he sees you, he wants it to be special. He told me he is diligently trying to get here to see you again. I love you Kevin. I’ll be here for you. I’ll start visiting everyday I promise. I promise.
I won’t break this promise.
Don’t forget Eli. Don’t think bad of him.
Please.
I really do love you Kevin.

A tear fell onto the paper. Xander… I love you too.
And Eli… if he felt so strong about me he would have left Mina. He has no excuse…
I found myself crying again.
Screw this… It’s late I’ll go to bed early and-
My window was cracked open a bit. I scooted to the window and looked out. The breeze was nice. I watched the birds fly high in the sky. If only I was a bird. I would fly far away from here, I wouldn’t stay anywhere long. That way, I can’t get hurt.
The butterfly came back, this time it had a friend.
I couldn’t hold back my smile, it crawled onto my finger and it tickled. They flew away together, that’s when I shut my window tight.
If only Eli was like that butterfly. Coming back and keeping a friend like that.
I could only hope for the best…
