I Write Drabbles, Not StoriesWrite Like the Wind [Challenge]
Prompt 18: Exceptionally
Pairing: Sungmin/Sunny
Lee Soonkyu possessed an extraordinary talent.
It was not aegyo.
It was not singing.
It was not being charming.
It, simply put, was the ability to break Lee Sungmin’s heart over.
And over.
And over again.
And again, until it seemed nearly impossible for a heart to be that broken.
Lee Soonkyu was exceptionally skilled at this; Sungmin had only realized the sad truth when Kyuhyun came home from his musical performance.
“How was it?” Sungmin asked, following Kyuhyun to the kitchen.
“Good.”
“Sunny was Brenda, wasn’t she?” he continued to pester the maknae unknowingly.
Kyuhyun nodded, almost hesitantly. “Yeah, she was.”
Sungmin became quiet, as the fact that Kyuhyun and Soonkyu’s characters, Frank and Brenda, had romantic scenes in the musical came back to his mind. He chewed on his lip nervously, wanting to bring up the matter, yet at the same time, not wanting to bring it up at all. If he did, what would happen? Would Kyuhyun ? Would he ignore him instead, and head off to bed early? Or was it possible that maybe, just maybe, Kyuhyun was beginning to harbor feelings--
“Hyung,” Kyuhyun spoke up, sounding very solemn.
“What? What’s the matter?”
Kyuhyun sighed deeply and said, “Sunny came up to me after the show, backstage.”
Sungmin’s breath caught in the back of his throat. “Okay? What’d she say?”
“She didn’t say anything,” Kyuhyun stalled, fiddling with the hem of his shirt, something he never did.
“Then what?” Sungmin demanded.
“She kissed me.”
His chest ached immensely, but somehow, Sungmin was able to utter out one word and one word only.
“Why?”
Kyuhyun appeared sympathetic for his hyung. “I don’t know, but she said, ‘Don’t tell Sungmin.’ I’m really sorry, hyung. I don’t like her at all, and I don’t even know what came over her! You know I would never try and steal her from you, and besides, I already like someone else, but you know who that is, right?”
Sungmin ignored Kyuhyun’s mindless rambling. It felt like his whole world was, not crashing down, but collapsing down on him in a hopeless fashion, crushing his body and suffocating him.
He loved Lee Soonkyu--so much, it hurt terribly.
But that was something she never could return to him fully.
