Description

Hope is not evergreen.

It waxes and wanes.

Wilts a little and then perks up again when given the right conditions.

It's tenuous, fragile at times, spread thin as gossamer wings.

Hope is not a robust evergreen coniferous tree.

No.

Hope is a delicate flower.

And yet...

It never dies.

Foreword

As you lay, body broken, soul splintered into shattered shimmering fragments around you, staring up at the blue skies above and beyond the bottom of the abyss where you've fallen.

You swore you've never seen anything more cerulean, more beautiful than the sky in that moment.

You forget how the colour blue is supposed to be one of sadness.

How could you when it fills you with such hope as you lay there staring, your corporeal and metaphysical form in decrepit pieces around you.

You're frail, delicate, broken, and wasted.

And yet here you are.

Existing.

In spite of it all.

When you're in the abyss.

The abyss can't stare back.
