Foreword
JongWoon walked through the somewhat empty halls of his school except for a couple of students.
"Hey turtle!" a boy jeered as JongWoon walked by.
JongWoon ignored the rude boy, and pulled his hood up, hiding the bruises and cuts on his face as he stared down at the ground with his hands in his pockets as he walked.
"hey! I’m talking to you!" The boy said, grabbing JongWoon by the back of his hoodie harshly.
"Let go of me!" JongWoon growled, spinning around and knocking the other's hand away. He was sick of how everyone would treat him. Every day, he'd get a couple of bruises or scars here and there from the stupid rich kids.
Knocking the other's hand away earned JongWoon another punch in the face.
JongWoon stumbled back, holding his throbbing cheek.
He glared at the boy, and quickly ran off as he heard the boy continue to jeer at him.
"A turtle indeed!" The boy laughed.
JongWoon kept running, hearing the echo of the boys laugh in the back of his mind. Tears stung at his eyes as he ran down the halls.
Hehated his school. He hated everyone he knew. And he especially hated his life.
JongWoon stood at the roof of the school, and peeked over the railing. 6 stories high. Should be high enough to kill him.
He carefully climbed up onto the ledge, and stood there, feeling the soft cool breeze of spring against his skin.
He inhaled deeply, closing his eyes as he felt the high elevation get to him, suddenly feeling a little dizzy.
He clenched his hands together into tight fists, and opened his eyes again, staring directly down at the ground that was at least 50 yards down.
"I wouldn't jump if I were you."
JongWoon turned his head slightly to see who had spoken.
It was JungSu. Park JungSu. One of the poor kids that went to his rich school.
The elder was leaning coolly against the ledge JongWoon was standing on, staring off into the distance.
JongWoon frowned. "What?"
"I wouldn't jump if I were you." JungSu repeated, turning his head to look up at JongWoon.
"Who said I was going to jump?" JongWoon exclaimed.
JungSu raised an eyebrow, doubting him.
"I was going to step off." JongWoon muttered quietly, cringing under the elder's gaze and looked back down.
JungSu jumped up and sat down on the ledge, still staring at the boy dressed in black.
"There's more to life you know." JungSu said, swinging his legs back and forth.
"What? Like what?" JongWoon asked. His attention was now fully on the man who sat only 4 feet away from him.
JungSu shrugged. 'Have you found love?" he asked.
"No." JongWoon replied simply, looking back out into the distance.
"There's your answer." JungSu smiled.
JongWoon laughed bitterly. "No one would love me." his mind found its way back to suicide.
"Have you even tried finding love?" JungSu continued, picking up a rock that was on the floor of the roof, and tossed it over the ledge, testing the height.
JongWoon said nothing, glaring at his feet.
JungSu winced slightly as he heard the distant clatter of the rock after 5 whole seconds.
The elder slid off the ledge, and straightened up, standing back down on flat ground, dusting his hands off.
"Made up your mind yet?" JungSu asked.
JongWoon looked back to see JungSu smiling, and offering his hand for him.
JongWoon hesitated slightly, before gently sliding his small hands into the elders, and jumped off the ledge and back down onto flat ground.
JungSu's smile widened as he let go of the younger's hand.
"Now go find your love." JungSu gave JongWoon a small pat on the back, pushing him towards the exit.
JongWoon gave JungSu a small smile, and left.
JongWoon strode down the hallway, thinking about what JungSu had said.'Find love? Is that even possible?'
JongWoon thought to himself as he walked past the gym, but back tracked when he heard quiet sobs come from the gym room.
He frowned and glanced around the large gym.
"H-Hello? Is anyone in here?' he asked, but the only reply he got was more sobs.
He stepped into the gym, and glanced around some more again.
JongWoon's eyes settled on a young male that was curled up on the school gym bleachers.
He walked over cautiously to the small boy, his black hood still pulled up.
The boy was trembling, still crying with his face in his arms.
"A-Are you alright?" JongWoon asked quietly.
The boy didn't answer, and just continued on crying.
JongWoon took a seat on the bleachers next to him and touched the boys back lightly.
"What's wrong?" he asked softly.
The boy finally lifted his head, and JongWoon recognized him as Kim RyeoWook.
"What’s wrong?!What's wrong?!" RyeoWook scoffed. "Everybody hates me!" he yelled, and went back to crying.
"Wh-why would they hate you?" JongWoon asked, knowing exactly why everyone hated himself.
"They say I'm short and too shy!" RyeoWook huffed, wiping at his tears angrily. "I hate everyone! I hate my life!"
JongWoon didn't know what to say, since he understood how the younger felt, so he blurted out the first thing that popped up into his mind,
"Find love!"
The younger stopped crying, and stared up at the dark boy, shocked by the boy's comment.
"What?!" he exclaimed.
"I mean uh.....find someone to love! Yeah, go try to find your other half." JongWoon said, quickly correcting himself.
"Love?" The boy sniffled, now turning his full attention to the dark boy next to him.
JongWoon nodded.
"Who told you that?!" RyeoWook frowned. "It sounds stupidly cheesy. Like something from a drama or something."
JongWoon just smiled. "A certain Special Angel."
RyeoWook gave him an odd look. "You're weird....." he muttered.
JongWoon shrugged, and slid his hood off that hid all the bruises and cuts on his face and neck. "I know. Everyone here makes sure I've been reminded of that every day."
RyeoWook winced at the sight of the elder. There were black bruises on his cheek, some still fresh, and there were small cuts above his eyebrows, and along his neck. He also looked sleep deprived.
RyeoWook gave him a small smile. "So......you're the 'turtle' everyone talks about."
JongWoon nodded grimly, pulling his hoodie back up.
"Let's be friends!" RyeoWook blurted out suddenly, finding their similarities.
"Friends?" JongWoon asked, furrowing his brows together in confusion. No one had ever wanted to be his friends before.
RyeoWook gave him a teary smile, and nodded.
JongWoon smiled back in return, and nodded.
