PEARL CENTER ☉ PREPPING THE BOATS...
WELCOME TO SIMDONG!
simdong is a fictional town that lies on the west coast of south korea, more south than north, but not necessarily at the tip of the peninsula. it has a population of 1100 people and it's a very cozy spot nestled between two mountains. their major export is fish. simdong doesn't have any real tourist attraction or point of interest for people to stop by, and it's rare for outsiders to come into the town unless they're marrying in. people don't go away often, but there is a recent surge in young people going away for university--primarily due to the appeal of greater financial success. otherwise, the kids take over their family's business.
THE STORY THUS FAR...
pearl center revolves around a group of college grads/seniors who are returning to their hometown at the end of their university lives. upon their return, they realize that the town is not exactly the same as they left it, and they band together in order to solve the mystery and protect their families.
while i won't delve into too many details for sake of suspense, i will say that it connects to the simdong families' tradition of trekking to the run-down shrine to pray for good fortune.
YOUR CHARACTER
your character is one of these college grads/seniors, so im looking at an age range between 21-25/6. they will be the child of one of the family businesses that are outlined on the simdong's families page ! they can have any reason to go off to uni... but what compels them to do so ? your character will definitely require a motive. other than that, it's really all up to you !
fc can really be whatever: idols, actors, models... as long as they have a decent amount of good pics or pics in the way you envision your chara looking ! no racebending allowed in any capacity.
keep backgrounds Reasonable. if your character for whatever reason has any triggering content, please note the relevant triggers. i don't really envision characters having too horrendous of backstories.. if you aren't sure how to proceed, feel free to reach out to me !

a fun feature of the app is the "this or that" questionnaire ! you can answer it as if you're the character creator, or you can fill it out as if it's the character responding there's only one question that specifically asks for one particular perspective... it is up to you if you want to elaborate on the choices, or if you just want to leave it as is !

WHAT GOES UNDER THE LIFESTYLE SECTION ?
the lifestyle section will be what your character was doing in the city right before leaving to come to simdong, as well as any possible important notes about who they're staying with in simdong or what their plans are for this period they're back in town ! if u need further clarification, pls lemme know !
THERE ISN'T A LOVE INTEREST SECTION ON THE APP...DO WE PUT A L/I IN THE RELATIONS OR IS IT CAST-DEPENDENT ?
o yes ! yeaahh you can just put it in the relationship section if you'd like !! tho i would say it's also a possibility, depending on the cast, that love interests can spawn out of the final lineup !
IF WE WANT TO MAKE A DELIVERY FAMILY BUSINESS, WOUDL THEY WORK WITH A MULTITUDE OF BUSINESSES OR JUST ONE?
if it's a family business, i think they would probably work with the top few businesses ? so like the biggest fisherman family, the biggest farming family ... many of the businesses in simdong have the kids go and make the deliveries ? but i could definitely see that for the more well-off businesses that are larger than just a small family owned operation, they would need a designated delivery service !!

WHERE DID YUGYEONG GO TO UNI? what does she study and why does she hate her major? where does she live in the city and does she visit simdong?
yugyeong goes to ehwa women's university ! she just completed her major in marketing (at the start of pearl center's story) !! the reason why yugyeong hates studying her major and being away at university is because she never really wanted to go,, she wanted to always just stay home and help take care of her mother until the end of her days,, but her mother felt a sense of guilt for having yugyeong feel an obligation to do so ?? she wanted yugyeong to be able to pursue something that could potentially take her out of simdong and into a better life,, but yugyeong can't really understand this so she continues to resent her life in the city... she also has always had a preference for traditional customs and preserving korean culture as observed in her family's hanok, but seoul is all about progress,, and so she feels a little swept away.. as if she needs to abandon her upbringing to fit in to seoul ;; she stayed in the dormitory her first year before living in a cramped "goshiwon" style living arrangement a couple subway stops away ! she definitely visits simdong at every break and ability to do so ,, she gets incredibly homesick
FOR THE CONVENIENCE STORE PLOT, DO WE HAVE TO ADHERE TO THE NOTE THAT THE CHILD IS TAKING OVER THE BUSINESS?
i think this would mainly depend upon where you want to take it ! i think that if it's surrounding your character's role as taking over the family business, it can have some flexibility ! their motive for going to the city would still need to be quite defined and i'd still like to know their family's opinions on them going away for school ! i would like it to still be in the general realm that it's uncommon for them to go away for school !
HOW OFTEN IS THE SIMDONG TRADITION OF PRAYING AT THE SHRINE? DOES FREQUENCY DEPEND ON THE FAMILY'S BELIEFS OR IS IT A COMMUNITY HOLDAY?
it's once a year ! the day of the summer solstice ! (june 21) it is a community-centered tradition to go on this designated day as it's quite a trek away to the shrine and it can prove a difficult journey (it goes up into the mountains a bit !!) other pilgrimages can be made to the shrine, but it's typically only if the family is particularly desperate for something or they feel there is no other options for them. on the day of the shrine visit, parents typically wish for good fortune, good crops, etc.
HOW MANY FREE PLOTLINE APPS ARE YOU ACCEPTING?
hmm i think this would depend upon the apps i receive ?? i think im aiming for 1 per plotline, but i think there could be possible exceptions made depending on how characters fit into each other
ABOUT HOW MANY KIDS WOULD YOU SAY THERE ARE PER CLASS, AND HOW DOES SIMDONG'S SCHOOL STRUCTURE FUNCTION?
hmm i would guesstimate probably around 40 kids for every grade ? and they take all the classes together with a rotating teacher system (as in, they stay in the classroom while the teacher leaves or comes in depending on the subject). simdong's school system stays within its town with 1 school for each elementary, middle, high school. there isn't a simdong uni as typically post-high school the families pull the kids to work in the business
HOW DID YUGYEONG PERFORM IN SCHOOL COMPARED TO HER PEERS?
yugyeong was a pretty good student !! she had a passion for writing papers, history, etc,, but she wasn't too shabby in mathematics ! i'd say she was more than likely a straight A student with the occasional B for especially difficult years ,, she's good at studying !!
HOW DOES YUGYEONG'S MOM FEEL ABOUT HER RETURNING?
hmm so this gets more into some plot details for the story so i can't delve into Too much without spoiling,, but i would say that yugyeong's mom has always wanted yugyeong to forge her own path... and while she would love for yugyeong to stay in the city, she ultimately knows that yugyeong has a soft spot for simdong,, and wouldn't complain if yugyeong came home for good,, she would ask yugyeong what her final decision would be when she comes home post-graduation, and then that would be that ! however, whether or not it goes like this at the start of the story,, well ,,, we'll see !
CAN I ASSUME THE STORY TAKES PLACE IN 2021? AND WHAT SEASON/MONTH DOES THE CAST RETURN?
yes ! you can assume the story takes place in 2021 ! they would be coming back in the summer ! so around june !
