there's a heavy silence that falls over the streets. a light breeze ruffles your hair, your clothes, drying the sweat that's just beginning to form on your temples. the sea is thunderous beside you, crashing against the rocky shores, slapping the scattered fishing boats against their docks. the sea spray just faintly makes its way to you, salty and familiar.

your backpack is heavy on your shoulders, arm like gelatin from dragging your suitcase all this way. the taxi driver got lost on his way to your town and you had to cover more ground on foot than you wanted. figures, with a town as underwhelming as simdong.

today your hometown is particularly more underwhelming. the hustle and bustle commonplace to its main street is completely missing. the only sound is of the faint jingling of the wind chimes, the faroff calls of the birds.

something is inching up the base of your spine. your feet feel rooted to their place along the dirt road. your throat feels like it's almost constricting, collapsing in on itself. the sweat is cold along your brow, the wind picking up and slapping you in the face.

everything in your body, your being, your entire existence is telling you to turn around and hail the next cab out of there.

but this is good old simdong, right? this is your home, right?
