Chapter 24: The Shattered Heart
Next Gen MagiciansSunny and Yuri both agreed that it would be best for Sunny to reveal the news to Tiffany. There would be a chance that Tiffany would look to Yuri for comfort afterward, so if Sunny were to give her the bad news, at least Tiffany would still have her best friend. Yuri also offered to send the news to the basketball team herself, as they were also quite important to Taeyeon’s high school life. Sunny looked all over for Tiffany but was having a lot of trouble locating the girl. Many of her classmates said that she had attended classes, but had no idea where she went during the break. Sunny checked the theatre to see if she was rehearsing for a new performance and she also checked in at the cafeteria and still no sign of the girl. “Did she already find out and leave to run after Tae?” Sunny asked herself.
Sunny was about to give up on her search when she overheard the school nurse talking in her office. “You seem fine to me Miss Hwang, but if you really do feel sick I’ll allow you to stay here for the rest of the day.”
“Thank you so much!” Tiffany said cheerfully.
“If you need anything just ring the bell, I’ll be at my desk.” Sunny opened the door to see Tiffany lying in bed with her eyes closed.
“Tiff? Are you okay?” Sunny asked. Sunny was trying to read Tiffany’s mind, but she couldn’t get through, the connection was continuously being scrambled between her mind and Tiff’s. “Actually, I don’t know Sunny. I have… this… this gut feeling that something terrible has happened and it’s making me feel kinda ill. That’s why I brought myself to the nurse’s office.” Tiffany admitted. Tiffany wasn’t the only one who had a strange gut feeling at the moment, she remembered the last time she couldn’t read Tiffany’s mind, and Dark Tiffany had been awoken. Sunny would have to tread slowly from here because she was prancing on extremely thin ice right now. “Um, what do you mean by something terrible?” Sunny asked hesitantly.
“I don’t really know. This morning when Taeyeon didn’t show up at McDonald’s, I usually would have been really annoyed at her, but I was more… worried than anything. I tried texting her but, it said her phone wasn’t receiving message at the time. Have you seen her around Sunny?” Tiffany asked innocently. Sunny didn’t know what to do here, she didn’t know whether, to be honest to her friend, or lie on the behalf of her best friend. Either way, Tiffany wouldn’t be satisfied with an answer, so Sunny chose to just stick the original plan. Tell Tiffany that Taeyeon was having financial problems. “Um, Tiff, I guess you haven’t heard, but Taeyeon and Shinju were having some financial difficulties.” Sunny stopped there to let Tiffany digest the tiny sliver of the story.
“Financial problems? Did she have to sell her phone or something?” Tiffany asked blankly.
“Yeah, but not just that. They had to sell everything.” Sunny could feel it drawing nearer, soon beating around the bush would cease and the announcement of Taeyeon’s departure will truly meet with Tiffany’s ears.
“Oh my gosh!! My poor TaeTae, where is she? She probably needs some comfort right now.” Tiffany said with worry.
“Nah, Nah she’s okay, but she’s… um, out of the city at the moment.” Tiffany went silent for a moment.
“Out… of the city? Like… are they moving to a nearby suburb?” Tiffany questioned.
“Umm, moving is correct. Nearby, not so much.” Sunny said reluctantly.
“When are they coming back?” Tiffany said anger was evidently growing from the sound of her tone.
“Well… until they manage to recover from their financial burdens and debts… it might be a while before they can afford to return…”
“Where are they!? Where did they decide to move??” Tiffany said, strongly gripping the side of the nurse’s bed.
“She… she didn’t tell me…”
“WHAT!? She tells you everything else, but she doesn’t tell you where she’s going!!?? WHY!?” Tiffany was fuming now and the nurse came rushing in.
“Is everything okay here girls?” Tiffany immediately stood up and walked out of the office, not even paying attention to the nurse’s question. She started running through the halls scratching her head, wondering why Taeyeon wouldn’t even talk to her about her emergency.
In Tiffany’s mind, something wasn’t adding up. If Taeyeon truly had financial issues, she would have voiced it to someone. Maybe not Tiffany, because she wouldn’t have been able to help her in a financial way, but for sure Taeyeon would have told Sunny, Tiffany thought. “Maybe she didn’t tell her cause she didn’t want to be a beggar? But I’m sure as soon as Sunny heard about this she would have offered help…” Tiffany told herself. She knew Sunny was following closely behind, so Tiffany immediately turned and cornered the shorter girl against the lockers. “YAH! Taeyeon’s your best friend! If she was going through financial issues why didn’t you help her!?” Tiffany screamed.
“I swear Tiff I did, but she wouldn’t take any help from me. You know how she is, she doesn’t take handouts from people. She fights and earns what she wants, you know she’s that type of person.” Sunny lied, trying to calm her down.
“If Taeyeon didn’t want your help, why are you the only person she told? Why didn’t she at least tell me she was leaving!!!?” Some students were exiting their classroom to investigate the cause of the ruckus.
“Tiffany please calm down. They had to leave immediately and I was
