He looked at me with eyes of concern.
"Are you okay?"
No, I'll never be okay.
Crystalline tears formed in the corners of my eyes.
They streamed down my face uncontrollably.
If my sunshine were here, he would've wiped them away.

Funerals were dark places.
"I'm sorry for your loss," they said.
They were the color of agate, much like this new world I lived in.
"Why couldn't it have been you?" others asked.
I wondered the same thing.
"You need help," some murmured.
But I didn't need help, I just needed my sunshine.
. . .
I hated myself.
It hurt that my sunshine was no longer here.
It hurt more that the memories I had of him were sparse.
The last thing I remember was him giving me a candy.
