Bonjour ! Hello! You've arrived safely at the bonus chapter! It includes special thanks, a Q&A, random facts, subscriber recognition, and a speech (short and not emotional, I swear!). Let's get the important holy baby snakes business begin, shall we?
Special Thanks:
- My Mom, who supported me, encouraged me and helped me find motivation when I was losing it.
- JazzOnTheRoof, a really nice friend who discusses many things with me, answers my bull, and gave me good advice about writing.
- BTS, who literally is one of the sun of my days and one of the moon of my nights (no I’m not trying to be poetic, that’s really how I feel. I mean they’re everywhere in my life!). They inspire me, motivate me, make me dream and help me live. But they’ll never see this bwahaha!!!
- You, readers, of course, without you, I wouldn’t have continued The Creatures (because feeling like you’re writing for ghosts is really horrible). You are an entire part of the formula of the story, I sincerely thank you for reading, subscribing commenting, and upvoting. I’m really, really happy thanks to you and the love you gave The Creatures!
Q&A
Thank you for the questions, guys!
Question 1. (by janelle15) Did it make you happy when you started this? Did it make you sad when you were ending this?
Answer. Yes. When I started The Creatures, I was very happy. I thought it was a good idea, and it could be a pretty good story. Plus, starting a story is always one of the most exciting thing about writing for me (It’s the second on the list. The first one being creating the story and imagining how it would turn out as if it was a movie before even starting to write it lol).
However, the ending didn’t really make me sad. It did feel weird because I’ve been working on this story since September / October 2016 (I started posting in February 2017). If I was to compare it to something it would be a trip: you go, it’s exciting, you have a lot of fun, then you come back home, and you feel a bit empty because the trip is finished, and you start thinking, ‘what should I do now’. But I plan on doing other things now that I have more time (learning music theory and continue studying Korean), so I’m honestly also kinda happy that I finished The Creatures.
Question 2. (by JazzOnTheRoof) What was your inspiration for this story?
(by janelle15) Where did you get the inspiration to write this?
Answer. Actually, I didn't have a specific inspiration for the story. However, I love supernatural. So I could say that books, movies, dramas, animations or webtoons, anything with supernatural and good enough, can be a source of inspiration.
I did have an inspiration for the title though, which literally is my imagination. Because when I hear the word ‘creature’ I think of dragons, hippogriffs or unicorns, and other legends that aren't animals like elves, fairies or angels.
Question 3. (by janelle15) Where do you get your inspirations when writing a chapter?
Answer. Same for the chapters; I didn’t have a specific source of inspiration. I was thinking about what should happen in the story, how I could make it happen, and just developed the ideas I got in the chapters, sometimes as I was writing them, sometimes beforehand.
Question 4. (by JazzOnTheRoof) How did you choose the Creature type for each character?
(by janelle15) How did you decide on what creature to give to the boys as their character to be?
Answer (warning, really long). Here’s an explanation. I tried not to make it too long but well... I failed, I guess?
I choose Guardian Angel for Nam Joon, not because he is angelic, since he can be really mischievous if he wants, but because he’s like the guardian of BTS and he protects and guides the members, like he’s doing with Yong Gi.
I choose Goblin for Yoon Gi because I imagined goblins being a bit unsocial, looking cold and scary. P.S: I’m not saying Yoon Gi actually is like that, he’s not, he’s sweet and caring, but he does look like that when you don’t know him. So it matched.
I choose Elf for Seok Jin because he’s worldwide handsome. No more words needed. Kidding. Elves are known for being beautiful, the ethereal, soft, yet powerful side of the elves suited him.
I choose Fairy for Ho Seok because for me fairies are cute, playful, bright, like nature and animals. I don’t know if Ho Seok particularly likes nature but I know he likes animals and, even if he’s not always like all those adjectives since he too can be down or sad or just not in the mood for being ‘hopeful’, it matches those traits of his personality.
I choose Angel of Light for Ji Min because, well, a lot of ARMYs say he’s an angel who fell from Heaven. He does remind me of those kids, who have a small cloud covering their little friend below, in old paintings (without any inappropriate meaning, it’s the cute part of it I’m talking about), and when I think about healing, since angels of light are healers, he comes to mind because he’s always taking particular care of the members.
I choose Haetae for Tae Hyung because he’s unique (not weird, he’s just him and I love who he is). I wanted something that would match this uniqueness, which led me to using Korean mythology and giving him the ‘most’ unique and unknown Creature kind.
I choose Celestial for Jung Kook because he is really versatile and has a surprising ability to do various things. Celestials have four different magic forms (plus their human form), so four different type of power, making them the most versatile Creature that exist.
Question 5. (by janelle15) How did you start this? (is it an idea, dream or something?)
Answer. No. The idea just popped out in my head when I was in class (yeah I wasn't paying attention but I'm not a good example, kids!) at the start of my third year of high school (As I mentioned before, September / October 2016). It was a rough story line, and it “developed itself” as I wrote because I was adding details. And in the end, it “widened” to a real, full story. Which I'm really happy about because the first story line was really rough. Once, I read it again and it felt sooooo dry.
Question 6. (by JazzOnTheRoof) What was your "world-building" process for coming up with all of the fantasy elements?
Answer. It was quite a simple process, although it often took some time. I was thinking about what I wanted, exploring the idea, doing some researches, then developing / modifying / creating. Most of the time, I was doing so bit by bit, as I was moving forward in the story. But I usually already had an idea of what I wanted, then when that element was supposed to appear, I was doing the rest of the process.
Question 7. (by janelle15) Who did you think of when you wrote Yong Gi's character? Or are there any specific reason as to why she is made like that?
Answer (warning, a bit long). I didn’t think of anyone in particular. But there are specific reasons, indeed. When creating Yong Gi, I was thinking about
