I : The Official Encounter

The Reality Dream

In the last chapter of Iven's story...

With that, we were friends immediately and I helped him get settled down.  I forgot about my embarrassing first impression and it seemed that he did too so that was good.  When we had finished, it was late. I had planned to sleep early, but whatever, at least, I had a new friend and a good roommate.

Iven’s POV

Setting: South Korea

The night passed and morning came where we all woke up to the sound of a loud horn blaring. I opened my eyes and checked the time, it was 5:00 AM in the morning.  Surprisingly, I wasn't tired and so it didn't take me too long to wake up, even though I had only gotten 5 hours of sleep. But, my friend, Chris, on the other hand, he didn't even budge. Like, I thought he was dead.  I decided to wake him up because if I didn't, I'm sure he would have gotten in trouble. It took a while, but he finally woke up. I felt kinda bad because he had gone through jet lag because of the big time difference in Korea versus the US.

We all were called to be gathered by the managers. There was Manager Park and 2 others, which I assumed were for the US trainees since there were a bunch of them, too much for one to handle. Manager Park was the first one to speak after they were all done discussing with each other.

Manager Park said, in his loud, deep voice, “Okay, all the trainees from Singapore, you will continue your day as normal with your training.  Now, go get ready and get going to your training.  Hurry! If you guys are late, you never know what the trainer/coaches will do.”

After hearing that, I immediately rushed back to my room.  But, I accidently bumped into that one girl, the one that caught my eye last night.  We landed and she was on top of me, her head was on my chest. I could feel myself blushing so hard and my heart was starting to beat fast. Oh no, I really hope she doesn’t hear my heart beat fast.  Ahh, Iven, calm down calm down calm down...

“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry.” She said as she stood up quickly.  I could tell she was also blushing, but she held out her hand.

I gladly took it and stood up, saying, “No, it’s okay.  It’s my fault.  I was rushing and I wasn’t looking where I was going.  I should be careful next time.” There was a bit of an awkward silence and then I finally spoke again. “I totally forgot to introduce myself, but, my name is Iven. You?” I stuck my hand out.

“Vivian.” She took my hand and lightly shook it. Ahh, she’s so cute.  Even her actions are cute. Oh, shoot. I should get going before I’m late and who knows what the trainer might do.

“It was nice meeting you.  But… I gotta go, can’t be late for training.” I smiled real quick and ran up the stairs into my room.

As soon as I went into the room, I took a second to calm myself down from our first meeting.  Then, I rushed to get ready and finally, out the dorm to the JYPE building where another week of my intense training began.

Once I got inside, the first training scheduled for me was my vocal lessons.  What we were working on first was my pronunciation of words when I was singing.  Since I had already knew how to speak it, I just needed to learn how to read and write it. Funny right? At first, when they saw I knew Korean, they thought I could do everything, from speaking to writing.  Luckily, they tested me so I wasn't going to be doomed. I picked pretty fast though, since I knew how to speak it and also the fact that I knew other languages too, helped me learn languages faster.

I was still practicing reading Hangul by looking over the lyrics that I would be working on, when the trainer came in.  Just like I had been taught and told, I immediately stood up and bowed while saying, “Annyeonghaseyo. ”

She also greeted me back and then we began working on my singing skills.  We began with warms up of scales where she played the notes on the piano while singing them along with me.  After a while, she stopped singing and I was just singing the scales by myself.  After 10 minutes or so of warm-up, we finally began the actual singing.  The song that I was going to be working on was “Miracles in December” by EXO.  I didn’t actually know how to sing, but well that’s what this was for.  She began playing the intro and then it was time for me to start:

Boiji anhneun neol chajeuryeogo aesseuda

I thought I was doing well, but before I could sing the next line, she stopped me.  She then explained to me that I was pronouncing some of the letters wrong and we continued this same process until I finished learning the chorus.  We stopped and the singing lessons were done.  After that, I was left in the small practice room where I practiced for about 30 minutes before heading to my next training of the day, learning the actual Hangul.

As I was heading to the classroom where I learned Hangul with a few other trainees, I got a glimpse of the US trainees in the same exact room where I had been the first day I was there.  But, when I was trying to see who was speaking to them, I saw it wasn’t JYP.  I just shrugged and thought, “Hmm, maybe JYP was busy with his other stuff.  I mean he is part of the company so like any other artists, he’s gonna be busy with some kind of stuff.”  I began walking again and got to see that one girl again.  She looked interested, but tired.  Her hair was tied in a messy ponytail and she had her head propped on one of her elbow.  She wore a blue flannel with boots.  It was a nice casual outfit.  I should have seen it this morning, since I bumped into her, but well my embarrassment took over.  But man, she was pretty as ever and not to mention, cute.  I found myself starting to heat up again and my heart was racing so I knew I should go.  Plus, I didn’t want to be late for language lessons or else the teacher would make me read some hard Hangul in front of the whole class and that would be embarrassing.  Also it would probably ruin my impressions, chances, and possibly my reputation, if I have one.

The day passed and I went through my usual training schedule.  From my singing, language, and then my dancing.  I had finished my dancing lessons, but, just because my lessons were done doesn’t mean that my day was done.  I still had to practice for the next day which all the teachers expected some improvement.  If we didn’t improve, then, the chances of us debuting would become less.  I knew that what they looked for in the trainees to debut is their hard work and the determination.  After hours of practice, I was dripping with sweat and I looked at the clock to find that it was 9PM.  I wrapped up and then began my walk back to the dorm.  It was actually quite refreshing and the air felt nice against my skin.  The wind wasn’t harsh and it brushed against my skin gracefully and cooled me down.  The night in Korea was actually not too bad actually.  As I turned into the road towards the dorm, I stopped just to appreciate the beautiful night, filled with the grasshoppers singing their own song.  I finally arrived to the dorms where it was bright as usual, but empty.  Everyone is probably in their rooms, even the US trainees.  Oh, speaking of the US trainees, there’s Chris.  Wait, why is he going to the girls’ side of the dorm.

I watched as my roommate make his way around the corner.  I was curious, so I quietly made my way up the stairs and then I looked around the make sure there was no one else following me or was around.  Once I checked that the coast was clear, I continued to follow Chris and hide behind the corner.  What I saw was something that would change the way I thought of him and our friendship…

I really can relate having lots of outgoing friends with big personalities..
Please don't feel bad or guilty about it.. There's nothing wrong with being on the quieter side! You don't need to be as loud as them or change who you are:) Perhaps you can try talking about something you like so it's easier to talk to them?
