The Mermaid

Depending on their lineage and limits of power, mermaids have the ability to control water, influence weather at sea or manipulate luck. The more higher up they are on the mermaid hierarchy, the more likely they are to have powers. (If one is of royal or noble lineage, it does not ensure that they have powers, it is just more likely.) However, it is very difficult for mermaids to harness and control their powers so only the most elite mermaids fully train their powers.

Mermaids live to be about 300 years, and all are able to transform into a more human version of themselves to walk on land. Each mermaid has a different colored tail according to which ocean/kingdom they are descended from.  

Mermaids store their power inside of a pearl inside a pendant of some sort. A mermaid's human lover once discovered that these pearls had the power to grant wishes. However, he did not know that consuming that power to grant his wish would ultimately kill his lover. 

Thus, the hunt for mermaid pearls ensued. There are very few mermaids left in existence today.

The Fairy

Fairies have the ability to control plants and exert influence over the elements of the earth. They are capable of basic magic and will become more powerful if they have a source to stabilize their energy. 

Fairies live to be about 500 years. Each fairy is beautiful beyond comparison. They come in all sorts of colors, wings and sizes. They are the size of your hand at most and the size of a peanut at least. Some look more human, others do not. Despite folklore, they are not inherently good or evil. 

Although fairies have a diverse appearance, there is one universal aspect they share. They are superficial, vain and egotistical to the core. The quickest way to win a fairy's heart is through flattery. They consider looking at themselves the ultimate privilege and will flock to all things shiny to catch a glimpse of their precious reflections.

The Gumiho

Gumiho have the power to control minds: they can make you feel, see, hear things or simply just take over you like a puppet master. They thrive on causing chaos in the world and in humans' love lives. Gumihos are remembered in legend for their beautiful appearance and capacity to trick mankind.

Gumiho are fox spirits with nine tails who obtained special powers through their longevity. It takes 1,000 years to gain all nine tails, and they can live on forever as long as they don't run out of energy. Each tail is gained after some major event, such as causing great harm or help to humans. How they choose to behave influences the kind of fox spirit gumiho become. Those who have all nine tails are either extremely good or evil (more often than not evil.) Those who are still in the process of gaining all nine tails are more in between in terms of personality and morality.
