Prince Jongin aka Kai

Kai is the only son of King Soohyun and Queen Hera.

He is notorious for sleeping with the palace girls and causing trouble in court.

With the strong support of his mother and her family, he is a strong contender for the throne.

Although he has always expressed his refusal for it.

Prince Minseok aka Xiumin

First born of King Soohyun to a Chinese consort.

His Chinese blood makes him ineligible to take the throne.

Xiumin has long accepted that he is not set to rule thus fully enjoys his freedom and status.

Queen Hera (later Queen Mother)

Hera does great as a queen however she takes things too far in order to protect the interests of the royal family.

Irene

At a young age, Irene ended up being sold to the palace where

she grows up cleaning chambers and preparing meals for the Royal Family.

Suzy 

Suzy grew up close to the brothers as she is part of the Bae family,

a well-known family who has been supplying the palace with jewels for many years.

Unbeknownst to others she is Kai’s first love.

Kim Seolhyun

Seolhyun is the youngest daughter of a powerful governor in the South.

She was brought to the palace to be one of the prospective wives for the new king.
