My friend is playful on facebook but cowardly in real life. Once, I suddenly called a guy classmate 'my baby'. Except for the nerd, all my friends laughed and from that day onwards I called the boy 'my baby'. Suddenly, I saw this facebook status by her: ' _________ loves her baby named ________'. She even told my so-called-baby that. And he actually believed her. I tried convincing him that i was joking but he didn't believe that. That nerd knew I was angry with her. I was her only friend in high school that's playful as all her friends are nerds too. She decided to ask for my forgiveness. I was still mad at that time. She also try to convince the boy that she was only joking. He found out and ignored both of us. Till now, she still begs me for forgiveness. She keeps on saying good stuff about me. Should I forgive her? And what about the boy? :S

To answer your first question, YES YOU SHOULD FORGIVE HER. We should think that you somewhat cared about that nerd since you wrote in to us, right?

Now to list the reasons:

Firstly, high school doesn't exactly last long. It's always better to make friends than make enemies. (Like who knows, she may be your boss/colleague, or you may need her help one day.) Grudges shouldn't be kept for too long. Besides, the girl did not exactly do anything that can be considered 'horrible'. You did not like the boy or anything right? So basically, no harm is done.

We can understand your anger, since you are afraid that people will misunderstand you, or you may even feel betrayed by that girl. If her apology is sincere and she really wants to be friends again, you should definitely befriend her. Perhaps, you may set up a little harmless plan with your friends to test out whether she is really SINCERE ON WANTING TO BE YOUR FRIEND, or if she just wants to be your friend for BENEFITS.

But after this time, you should not stay mad at her anymore. Even if you don't want to be her friend, you should at least act neutral.

With regards to the boy, you should just let him be. He may need his own breathing space. If he speaks to you, then you speak with him. Don't totally ignore him either. It'll just confuse him more. Treat him as neutrals or the way you did before. But don't be too proactive in approaching him. Take things a step at a time or ask your other friends to explain to him what's going on.
