Prologue

Whether it was because she couldn’t talk or because she wouldn’t talk, Yoojung didn’t know. All she knew was that her new neighbors were nothing out of the ordinary, a middle-aged couple with a teenage daughter. What sparked Yoojung’s interest was their daughter. She was silent.

Late at night, Yoojung was still up, wrapped up in her train of thoughts that were racing through her brain. From over thinking about exams to wondering about what she would do that weekend, Yoojung just couldn’t sleep. It was silent except for the constant chirp of crickets and small buzz of other insects that liked to roam in the nighttime.

Sometimes, Yoojung wished she lived in the city rather than the rural area she does live in. Sometimes, Yoojung wished that one day she’d stay up late like this and would hear the always-live city noises rather than cicadas buzzing and cows mooing. But of course, a wish is a wish, and nobody ever guaranteed it was going to be granted.

She sat up abruptly, unable to sleep.

Pushing the blankets off of herself, she tiptoed out of her small house and escaped to the barn.

Author's Note

my otp is dodaeng if you couldn't tell already LMAO this story is going to be sort of heavy on the emotions and not really fluff at all - it's actually going to get a bit dark about halfway in the story as more about the characters are revealed so that's just a heads-up from me :p comments and upvotes are appreciated, as always.
