Yearbook 》MEANIE

This was it. They day that everyone anticipated.

Graduation.

Everyone that was, except for Jeon Wonwoo. From the moment he woke up on that 'special' Friday morning he felt like complete trash. No matter how hard he tried to remember that today was the day he could finally say "I graduated", he just didn't want to accept the idea of the 12 years he had spent in school and with his best friend was coming to an end. That's something he just wasn't ready to face.

He knew, on the other hand, that his best friend Kim Mingyu would be the polar opposite of his current groggy mood. For Mingyu was more of a high spirited soul. He always had his head up and was the one ray of light that reminded Wonwoo that he was, in fact, a human being that possesed some form of positive emotion.

He was the rock Wonwoo had lent againt for almost 13 of his 19 years alive, but the sad reality that is life, was coming down on him like a tonne of bricks. To even comprehend that the two would be going to different Universities within the next few months hit hard deep inside Wonwoo as he dragged his sorry to the theatre of his school that morning.

Wonwoo sighed as he leant against one of the sullen walls of the theatre buildings, plugging in his earphones letting his music seep into his ears while he gave himself a minute to catch up on some 'sleep'.  The one day he dreaded arriving at this, suddenly depressing builing, he had managed to be somewhat early. His eyes had already scanned the grounds for a sign of Mingyu but he wasn't there, so he just assumed he would be arriving soon.

Just as his brain began to get numb, a pair of hands landed on his slouched shoulders, instantly making him tense and his breath hitched. His eyes shot open and he came face to face with a strikingly handsome smirk. His body instantly relaxed when the fact that it was only Mingyu, hit him.

"Gooooood morning." Mingyu chirped, patting Wonwoo's cheek and slouching his body next to the other.

Wonwoo hummed in response, befored his eyes travelled up to the taller boys and he cracked a gentle smile.

"You seem awfully happy, i mean aside from you usual retard demeanor." Wonwoo teased, gaining a chuckle from Mingyu.

"Well I mean were graduating. I think thats more than enough to justify my happiness." Wonwoo rolled his eyes at this before scoffing.

"Sure! I mean if you don't consider the fact that for the next 4 to 6 years of our lives we will be bound to more studying." Wonwoo added.

Mingyu couldn't help but laugh at his best friends words. It was such a typical thing of him to say, and he didn't expect anything less from him.

"This is why i love you Wonwoo, forever looking on the bright side of things." Mingyu laughed to himself and Wonwoo couldn't help but smirk at his sarcasm.

The pair became silent after that and the last few minutes before they entered the big hall, was spent listening to Wonwoo's music and dribble drabbles of small talk.

When 9 o'clock finally rolled around, Mingyu and Wonwoo made their way into the buzzing room where they were greated by their teachers and friends, stopping occasionally to chat to people. When they finally found their seats, they waited patiently for the hype to calm down and when it finally did, the room became silent.

This really was it.

//

Somewhere between the corny speeches and walking up on stage, Wonwoo had managed to somewhat forget about his little mood he was in and began to slowly enjoy the day.

As he was gathered in the courtyard with Mingyu and a group of his classmates, he found it fitting to take a few last pictures just for the memories amd he even managed to write a few nice things in peoples year books. It was when he had finished signing everyones books that he had wanted, that he remembered a little note he had written for a particular person.

Wonwoo found his way back to Mingyu, who was talking to a few of the girls from their class, Wonwoo unintentionally scoffing at the sight. He made his way up to the taller boy and boldly wrapped his arms around Mingyu's waist from behind, resting his head on his shoulder. Mingyu didn't have to look in order to know who it was, instead he let Wonwoo continue what he was doing.

"Yes?" Mingyu questioned.

Wonwoo beamed up at the boy.
"Pass me your yearbook" he said with a slight ring in his voice.

Mingyu obliged, handing the book over the sloth on his back. Wonwoo took it with eager eyes retreating to a nearby bench, letting Mingyu continue his 'coversation', while he opened up to his own picture.

Although his mood had picked up not that long ago, he felt a pang in his chest as he wrote a small message under his own picture:

"Thank god we have finished with this place so I no longer have to see your ugly face... tbh you'll have a hard time getting me off your back now that i have all this spare time on my hands. P.s. I have a key to your house so good luck"  - The most beautiful person in the world.

Wonwoo tried to sound convincing with his message, but truely he knew that he wouldn't be at home for much longer before he moved into the city for Uni and he was still unsure of where Mingyu was going. But for now he had something more important to do.

Wonwoo reached into the pocket of his blazer and pulled out a piece of paper. He tossed it around in his a hands for a while contemplating whether or not to put it in there or not. Within this note contained all of the emotions Wonwoo had never been able to convey to Mingyu through actions and although this was overdue and completely wrong of him, what was written in the note had to be let out. It made Wonwoo feel as if he'd burst otherwise. And yes he was shamelessly confessing his love for his best friend, but he had enough of everything being cooped up inside. And although he wasn't sure if Mingyu would read it or not he felt relieved, even though he knew the chances of the two being together were impossible.

He unfolded the paper and slipped it inside the cover of the book making sure it wasn't visible but not completely impossible to find. He just hoped it was hidden enough so that Mingyu wouldn't find it at least until he got home.

He sighed heavily as he closed the book and he felt as if his chest was going to concave if he didn't stop thinking about the note. He made his way back to Mingyu, the boy was patiently waiting for Wonwoo to return so they could walk home together.

"Are you ready?" Mingyu asked as Wonwoo approached. Wonwoo simply nodded as he joined the boy.

They bid their final goodbyes to their classmates exchanging empty promises to stay in contact and 'good luck' wishes, before leaving their campus for the last time.

Chapter 1: My heart is already hurting after reading the prologue. I don't trust the slightangst tag! XD
I like how you wrote Wonwoo's confession letter. His love, his feelings and how scared he was about confessing, all of which you had done a great job in conveying. Nice!
