Crying Game

Chapter 4

September 6, 2014

Hyuna didn't know how long she sat there, staring at nothing; but she was aware that she had sat on the wooden floor for so long her body began to ache- or maybe it was from the violent shock she had just received. She didn't know. Her bones felt cold and stiff, and she felt that wrapping herself in sweaters wouldn't even keep the warmth from seeping out.

So she sighed, exhaling the last of the warmth her body had struggled to hold onto. It wasn't as if she was new to the feeling, but today she felt colder than usual. Siwon was the only person with the ability to make her feel this way when they fought. Finally gaining the strength back in her jelly-like legs, she stumbled, gripping the edge of the counter so tightly that her fingers hurt. Reaching for her phone, Hyuna felt herself letting out another sigh for the hundredth time today.

6:45 p.m

Hyuna had sat in her trance-like state for over an hour and now she had only fifteen minutes left till the agreed upon time meeting with Kwon Jiyong. Hyuna knew that even if she sped she would be late. She really didn't want to go now more than ever. She felt like any energy she had possessed seeped through the floorboards. But it wasn't like Hyuna had a choice, the president would punish her if she didn't show. Quickly, she poured herself another glass of bourbon before making her way rigidly to the front door, picking up her keys and heading out

Once again, Hyuna found herself slamming the door to her car with much more force than necessary. For a moment she just sat there, fingers anxiously drumming on the steering wheel, biting her bottom lip till she tasted blood. Her eyes darting to the glove box before quickly looking away. She swallowed, repeating this process before finally deciding on whatever tumulus thought that had been building up inside of her.

Opening the glove box, Hyuna began rummaging around, and just as her  frustration began to sting at the back of her mind, her hands closed around the familiar cardboard box she had been longing for. Pulling out whatever secret Hyuna had kept hidden away in her glove box, she stared at the tiny blue box of cigarettes she held. After a moment's hesitation, she opened it.

It had been awhile since Hyuna had smoked. It was a habit she had started two years ago when everything had become too much to deal with, but she had vowed to quit before her return to Korea. Already under the public's watchful eye, if Hyuna were caught smoking it would cause a scandal- but right now she didn't care. She just needed something to calm her nerves.

When the lighter lit the end of the cigarette and Hyuna inhaled the poison into her lungs, she began to relax. The calmness that nicotine brought her was a feeling that she had missed for the past two months. Cracking her window enough to let the smoke flow out, she started her car and began to drive. Smoking a cigarette while driving intoxicated was a terrible idea for an idol, but Hyuna was convinced that by now she had mastered the art of drunk driving.

When Hyuna pulled up to the YG building thirty minutes had already passed. She scrunched up her face, her cheeks cold from the biting wind that had made her hair dance wildly while she drove. She hated the cold, but had to roll the windows down in order to get the stench of smoke out.

Once again, Hyuna found herself glaring at yet another building. After the day she had, the last thing she wanted to do was work with an annoying man like Kwon Jiyong. She checked the time and smirked. It was fifteen minutes past seven, and if what Seunghyun told her was true- Kwon Jiyong was a punctual man who hated people that were never on time. She hoped to be greeted with an angry frown rather than his happy smiling face, that would make her day better. And so, with egotistical confidence that only Kim Hyuna could have, she strode with her head high in YG's headquarters,

When Hyuna opened the door to the studio, she found Jiyong sitting at a table. But instead of being irritated at her tardiness, he smiled kindly at her. "Hyuna-ssi, you're finally here. I was worried that you wouldn't come."

Hyuna couldn't help but feel greatly annoyed at the stupid look on his face. Why wasn't he lecturing her for being late? Wasn't he angry? She was his junior after all, wasn't being late incredibly disrespectful? She felt quite bitter as she approached him, bowing lazily. "Something came up," came her curt reply.

He only continued to smile at her. "That's fine." He motioned to the laptop in front of him. "I was working on some songs of my own anyway."

Hyuna was beginning to become excessively irked. She hadn't even bothered to apologize to him for being late, and yet he showed no signs of dissatisfaction. How much ruder did she have to get before she was able to get her point across?

"Look," she started, "we're both clearly very busy people GD sunbaenim. I know you only accepted to work with me because sajangnim asked you to, so how about we just make this easier on both of us? You can write whatever and when you're done with your lyrics you can just send it over to me."

For a moment there was silence. Hyuna waited. She waited for him to angrily tell her how ungrateful she was being and how he really didn't want to work with her. Instead, she was once again caught of guard by his attitude.

He laughed. Smile wide, pearly white teeth showing, and eyes crinkled. G-dragon. Kwon Jiyong. He was laughing at her.

Fists clenched, Hyuna glared daggers. "What's so funny?" she spat icily.

The victim of her irritation covered his mouth, attempting to stifle his laughs. "Ah, I'm sorry if I offended you, Hyuna-ssi." He paused, trying to repress a snort. "It's just that you're so different from how you act in interviews and variety shows."

Teeth clamped as if they were glued together, she practically hissed at him. "What is that supposed to mean, sunbaenim?"

He leaned forward, arm on table as he propped his chin upon his fist. His eyes glinted. "It's just that I'm surprised. We've known each other for years and yet have never said more than a passing word or two. If I was never able to meet you in person like this, I wouldn't have known how interesting of a person you really are."

Interesting? He thought she was interesting? Hyuna was flustered, opening only to clamp it shut and press her lips into a thin line. She wasn't quite sure how to react to Jiyong's statement. Was he mocking her? Did he think it was fun to play with her? So instead, she settled with wordlessly scowling airily at him.

"I don't think that just sending you lyrics is a good idea," he continued. "I mean, it's virtually impossible for me to write lyrics when I don't know what kind of concept you are going for. If we were to write a song without even contacting each other, I think it would turn out badly. Your fans are eagerly awaiting your comeback, right? I don't think you'd want to leave them with a mediocre feeling of satisfaction."

Once again, Hyuna found herself angrily speechless. She could only bite her tongue, because although she hated to admit it, Jiyong was right.

He patted the seat besides him. "Come and sit and you can tell me what plans you have and what not. I don't bite." he repeated the same words Seungri had a few nights ago, something that didn't sit well with the female idol.

"Fine," she mumbled. With great reluctance, Hyuna sat down besides him- but not before making a show of pulling the chair away from him.

Hands clasped together, he leaned towards her, causing Hyuna to press back into her chair to increase the distance. "So what concepts have you thought of?"

Hyuna froze, she really hadn't had time to think about it yet. Too much had gone on in one day to allow her to clear her mind enough to think about music. "About that..." she murmured.

Jiyong leaned forward even more. "Sorry, I didn't quite hear you."

In a burst of extreme annoyance, Hyuna stuck her nose in the air, looking down at the annoying rapper out of the corner of her eye, arms crossed. What did she have to mumble about? She was Kim Hyuna after all, and someone like Kwon Jiyong was far beneath her. "I said that I haven't quite figured that out yet."

He nodded thoughtfully. "Then, should we think of ideas together?"

"Whatever you want," she quipped.

And so they began to brainstorm ideas- or at least Jiyong attempted to. Hyuna simply responded with snide remarks, to which he smiled to. Eventually, forty minutes had passed with barely a few notes jotted down on the paper in front him. He had to have begun feeling frustrated, right? Hyuna smirked inwardly to herself. He was going to explode any minute now.

"Is your arm alright?" Jiyong asked suddenly, his expression not annoyed but concerned.

Hyuna blinked. "What?"

He nodded his head towards her. "You arm, it's all bruised. Did something happen?"

Lifting up her arm, Hyuna realized that Siwon's strong grip earlier had left a rather large brownish, purple bruise.

"It's nothing. Just an accident that happened while I was practicing dancing," she replied sharply, heart speeding up.

"You should be more careful." Was his only response before dropping the subject. "You look really tired. Maybe we should call it a night and try again tomorrow?"

Hyuna released the breathe she hadn't realized that she had been holding. She was indeed tired, and the alcohol didn't help. At the end of the day, after all the stress she had endured in such a short period, Hyuna just wanted to bury herself into her bed and sleep. "Okay, tomorrow sounds fine." Standing up, she bowed lazily. "I'll be going then."

Eyes heavy, she quickly left.

When Hyuna left, Jiyong had leaned back in his chair to stare aimlessly at the white ceiling. He didn't know what to quite make of Kim Hyuna. She was wild, rude, and unpredictable. She was someone who clearly had no respect for him as a senior, and her dislike for him had been palpable for many years. Jiyong wasn't stupid. He knew that since all those years ago when his hyung had introduced her as his best friend, Hyuna had avoided the members of Big Bang like a plague. And yet, despite her cynical behavior, Jiyong couldn't help but laugh at her antics.

He sighed deeply. Still, he had to admit that he found her difficult. Hyuna was a girl who was hard compromise with, much less please. He had never known her well enough to form much of an opinion of her before, but now he understood why he found Seunghyun often pulling his hair out over her. She was not only difficult, but volatile and uncontrollable. He had thought that Seunghyun was simply being dramatic, but now he knew to not doubt his hyung anymore.

When Hyuna sat down next to him, she was so stiff that Jiyong was afraid that she would become stuck like that. Even though she was late, Jiyong hadn't been surprised or shown any sign of displeasure. Seunghyun had warned him that Hyuna was a self centered person who did everything on her own time, not caring if she wasted other's. And though he was prepared for her foul attitude, Jiyong had to admit that her boldness astonished him, and so he couldn't help but laugh.

The entire time they sat together, Hyuna's eyes were always narrowed callously at him. In her presence he felt like she was a hawk. Jiyong had noticed over the years that she never smiled and rarely frowned, but when she was upset would press into a thin line and her jaws would clench up.

He was never quite sure why Hyuna hated him. Maybe it was her sense of self-absorbed superiority that made her look down on everyone around her. Seunghyun had jokingly said that simply breathing would make Hyuna hate someone, and that it was nothing personal; and so Jiyong hadn't taken it personally.

He knew that her snide remarks while he endeavored to help her out with a song concept was her attempt to get under his skin. Jiyong wasn't dim, and Hyuna's constant gloating had made it obvious. Anyone else would have given up in a heartbeat, but Jiyong- well he wasn't quite sure why he hadn't given up either.

Maybe it was because when he saw her skin pale and her shoulders sag with such dispassion he couldn't bring himself to yell at her tired form. He had noticed that her breathe smelled of the kind of alcohol people drink in the middle of the day to kill their sadness, and he didn't miss the faint smell of cigarettes she had attempted to cover up with perfume. He noticed the ugly bruise on her shoulder and the way she had tensed up and her eyes hardened when he asked about it, and he sure as hell hadn't missed the way she lied through her teeth like second nature.

Jiyong couldn't bring himself to be mean to her when he asked if she wanted to leave and she looked so relieved. He had observed how she left so quickly, lips pressed into a thin line and jaws clenched, as if she was running away. He noticed that  she walked with her shoulders pressed closely to her body, legs rigid, and footsteps mindless. It was in that moment that he realized how small Hyuna looked when she walked like that, shut off from the world, as if she was about to cave into herself. She no longer looked like a hawk, but more like a scared rabbit.

"Jiyong-ah, you're still here?"

Head snapping up in surprise, Jiyong found Seunghyun standing at the door. "Hyung, when did you get here?"

"Just now." Seunghyun smirked knowingly, " so how did it go?"

Jiyong once again found himself letting his head fall back. "Hyung, how am I going to survive her for three months? I feel like she's going to jump at me and rip my throat out every time I even look in her direction." He sighed loudly, "chincha! How can a dongsaeng be so intimidating?"

Seunghyun laughed at his friends exasperation. "Yah, I promise you she's not bad when you get to know her. She's just stubborn."

"Yah!" Jiyong stood up suddenly, the chair sliding back at his sudden movement. "How do you expect me to get to know her when she hates my guts?"

Seunghyun became serious. "Hyuna may not be the most ideal women, but please be kind to her. She's a friend who's very dear to me. If I can survive ten years of her crazy personality, so can you."

Closing his eyes, Jiyong rubbed his temple. "I'm really gonna die, aren't I?"

Seunghyun grinned. "You'll get through it, but in case you, don't I'll prepare your eulogy. Fighting!"

Jiyong couldn't help but laugh at his friends humor. "Yea, hopefully I'll be fine. I mean, it can't be that hard, right?"

But to Jiyong, Hyuna felt like dust. The kind of dust the wind blew away when you got too close to it.

When Hyuna returned home, she wanted to do nothing more than collapse onto the bed, but the buzz she had felt from the alcohol had disappeared. Deciding to have a few drinks before passing out, she made a beeline for the kitchen. Flipping on the light, she reached for the unfinished bottle of bourbon she had left on the table hours ago. Grumbling to herself, she realized that she had nearly finished the entire bottle already. It was already her third bottle she had gone through since her return five days ago, and they were no small bottles either.

"Hyuna?"

The glass bottle nearly slipped from her hands as she jumped out of her skin. She put a chest to her hand to calm her racing heart when she realized it was just Siwon. He was the last person she wanted to see tonight.

She sighed, "what do you want, Siwon?"

He approached her, hands behind his back. "Mianhae."

"I really don't want to deal with you tonight," she snapped.

"Babe," he started, "you don't understand how regretful I am." Pulling his hands out from behind his back to reveal a bouquet of roses and a bottle of scotch, Siwon smiled shyly. "Mianhae. I didn't consider your feelings at all. It was obvious that you were having a bad day, and yet I still got angry instead of properly talking things out with you." As if sensing Hyuna about to withdraw further into herself, Siwon set the flowers and alcohol on the table to take her hands gently in his. His touch different from the way he had held her earlier. Kneeling before her, Siwon gazed softly into her eyes. "Babe," he lifted a hand to cup her cheek, "I'm so sorry for leaving you without a word... I'll never do something so hurtful to you again. You asked me if you were my one night stand or my girlfriend, but don't you realize?" He kissed her knuckles tenderly. "I love you and only you, Kim Hyuna. You have always been my only love."

Hyuna swallowed. She felt her resolve crumbling under his soft touches and loving words. Had he really been the man to hurt her earlier? When Hyuna looked into his eyes gazing at her with such intense honestly, she didn't remember. Brushing her tongue over her lips, she spoke. "Of course I forgive you, idiot."

And with a grin so wide that that took her breathe away, Siwon swept her off her feet in a hug and spun her around, leaving a trail of warm kisses all over her face. "I love you, Kim Hyuna," he whispered into her hair.

"And I love you, Choi Siwon," she whispered back.

When Siwon whispered to her like that, Hyuna wasn't quite sure what she was worried about in the first place. Because as long as his heart was there with her, that was good enough for her to forget fear.

Yet another 3000+ chapter finished. I thoroughly enjoyed having GD oppa annoy the living hell out of Hyuna. It took me about 3 hours to write this, and when I was done I was soooo tired cause it was almost 4am ಥ_ಥ

Can I also just point out that I've noticed how much you all hate seem to hate Siwon's guts? Lol.

I hope you guys are satisfied with this chapter, and it would be great if you could give me your thoughts on how you think the interaction between Hyuna and GD went. Did you like it? Hate it? What do you think about Hyuna's personality in this story? Is she annoying? Do you sympathize with her? I would really like to know everyone's thoughts so drop a comment below.

Lastly, I realized that I have updated 4 chapters in just a week, which is a bit too fast for my liking. I know that my lovely readers have school and work to deal with, therefore you all aren't on this site 24/7 and I know how bothersome it can be to only be gone for a few days only to come back to a million updates from a story. Besides, I would like to give you all time to process each chapter instead of  just bombarding you with updates, so I will be updating twice a week every Wednesday and Sunday.

Thank you all for reading! Upvotes and comments are greatly appreciated.

Like this story? Give it an Upvote!
Thank you!
