Twenty Five
SoyabeanThe leaves rustle softly in the wind, one or two stray ones slowly fluttering to the ground. The leaves are brown and cracking, the utter picture of desolateness. The old man sits at Cheonggyecheon River, holding the cups of soyabean. He has managed to find the stall, because the ahjumma had already put out two cups and labelled the plastic bag "For Seungyeon".
He gazes up at the sky, and a white aeroplane zooms across the blue landscape, clear for all to see. He watches it glide across the sky, until it is out of sight. Sighing, he brings his head down, sadly looking at the cups of soyabean in his hand, and then at the empty space beside him.
He pokes a straw through one, sipping it as he imagines Seungyeon's shadow in the distance, waving to him. Smiling at him. Glad to see him.
He finishes it fast, and then places the empty cup next to him, staring at it blankly. He seems to hear Seungyeon's sigh of content as she sets the empty cup down, see her smiling in satisfaction.
He turns his head away from the empty cup, chest tightening, and starts on the second one. He can picture Seungyeon swinging her legs to and fro, talking about her toys at five, then about how silly boys were at ten, and then about wanting a boy who would love her with all his heart at fifteen. He can hear her recount her college stories at twenty, but finally she gets married, and has to break the news of leaving to him.
He sets his own empty cup down to her empty cup, staring once again at the spot where the beaming Seungyeon should have been.
Is it good?
He can hear her voice, as clear as day, as though she is right in front of him and not somewhere far away, where they can never share cups of soyabean again.
"It is very good," he finally whispers, but there is no one there to hear him.
No one there at all.

& that, my friends, closes Soyabean.

A/N : While I was writing this last chapter, I had just finished reading Jane Green's Love Verb, which gave me so much inspiration. I was also listening to Super Junior's Storm, which calmed me and allowed all my emotions to just pour themselves out into words. What I really want to tell all of you is that, cherish all your loved ones. Tell them things that you always wanted to but have never dared to say before it's too late. True friendship is a very precious thing, never take it for granted; instead, treasure it with all your heart.
I love every one of you, thank you for sharing this journey with me. My chapters are incredibly short, but I honestly hope you have enjoyed this little ride with Soyabean! If any of you wish to talk to me, please do! ^_____^
Besides that, I have started up a writing competition, entitled P R E C I O U S.
& also, I have started up a request shop & am currently hiring staff!
