Chapter 3

CLOSER [HIATUS]

“Whoa,” a classmate of Won Woo’s blurted out when he entered class the next day. “Did you get into a fight with someone? What happened?” It was his friend Im Changkhyun who goes by his English name Daniel(Monsta X).

“No.” Won Woo answered while taking his seat next to him. They were actually friends since high school. Besides Soo Min, Won Woo had a few other friends but he wasn’t as close to them as he was to her. “I ran into an opening door.”

“Ouch.” Daniel frowned before continuing to gawk at his friend’s injury. “Does it hurt?” Won Woo just gave him a look, like he asked a dumb question and that made him chuckle. “Well, does it hurt a lot is what I’m asking?”

“It’s fine. Don’t worry about it.” Won Woo waved his hand dismissively before taking out his notebook for lecture. There were still a few minutes before class would be starting and Won Woo spent it revising notes from their last class period. “If you keep staring I’m going to sit somewhere else.” Won Woo muttered and Daniel immediately looked elsewhere. Because he and Daniel were alike in some ways. They were both quiet, shy and kept to themselves. They were just lucky they were taking the same class this semester otherwise they would have be a loner in the class.

Once class started, Won Woo found it difficult to focus and take notes because of the pain in his eye. Daniel took notice and assured Won Woo he could just relax and that he would give him a copy of his notes later. Thank goodness they had each other’s backs or Won Woo would be screwed.

...

The day seemed long and slow for Won Woo who was suffering from his uncalled for injury, but eventually the day was over and he finally was able to go home. Unfortunately, it wasn’t going to be as easy as taking some pain medicine and going straight to bed. There was still his sick roommate he had to check on.

“What in the world happened to your eye?!” Soo Min gawked at her best friend while looking incredibly stunned and confused. She had finally woken up. She had missed school today since she was still sleeping this afternoon when Won Woo left, her cold was still lingering stubbornly in her immune system. “Did you get into a fight at school?! Was someone picking on you?! Who was it?! I’ll show them they messed with the wrong person!” At her short shouting, she coughed.

“No.” Won Woo sighed before resting his sleeved hand over his eyes so she would stop staring at his injury, it was bad enough most of his classmates and instructors stared at him during class and while he was walking around campus, he was done with the attention. He slid her tea over for her to drink. “It’s not that.”

“Then how?!” Her confusion intensified before taking a sip. “How did you get a black eye then?”

He remained silent.

Honestly… he didn’t want to say he ran into a door because he was staring at the clerk last night while he was leaving, he just knew he’d never hear the end of it, she was going to find out anyway, but for now he was just prolonging the discovery.

“Did you punch yourself in the eye while pulling up your blanket again?” Her tone was half joking and half serious.

“That only ever happened once!” He frowned at the memory.

“Did you run into the front door, again?”

“Stop saying it like it’s a common thing for me!” He complained. “You’re mistaking me for you, queen of tripping over her own two feet!”

“Sheesh!” She laughed at his defensive behavior. “You’re just jealous because I’m a professional.” She added with a small hair flip.

“That’s not something you should boast about,” he scolded while pushing her shoulder.

“Did you drink last night? I would understand since you did my computer homework.” She gave a sympathetic look while patting him on the back. “I guess you ran into stuff on your way back!” She tried to contain her laughter but it was already too late. “Awh, it’s almost like that one time when you-” she suddenly stopped, there was a look of realization on her face.

“What?” He asked, he didn’t like where this would be going.

“The time you started making friends with the others… you were so shy and awkward… and so clumbsy too! It’s like you become accident prone when meeting new people!”

“Yah!”

“Are you making friends with the clerk at the convenience store?!” She looked completely shocked and curious now. She had thought he was going to forever avoid that convenience store after what happened.

“He has a name, you know!”

“Minhyun?”

“Mingyu.” He corrected, but cursed under his breath when a huge grin spread across her face.

“You even remembered his name!” She sing songed. “Awwwwh, my precious wingman is making an effort?” She leaned on him, but he shoved her off. She fell onto her side while laughing at his flustered expression. Simply making friends resulted this… he couldn’t imagine what falling in love would result?!

“You’re so annoying!” He sighed before getting up off the couch to head for the kitchen.

“Thanks!” She called after him jokingly. He didn’t mean it… they’ve been friends for 15 years, their bond was too strong for them to really be mad or insult one another, but then again there was earlier last week.

Soo Min remained seated on the couch quietly before she thought about the situation a little more, there was a dorky grin of her face. Honestly, she was happy. Won Woo wasn’t the type that socialized easily growing up. It was a challenge when they first met their friends and even when she started dating Jeonghan. At that time, she felt really bad towards her lifelong friend… even if he had a few other friends besides her, he wasn’t close with anyone but her. So when she’d go out on dates with Jeonghan, it was like leaving her adorable little puppy at home alone with nobody to play with. Even to this day, she tries to minimize her outings with others so Won Woo doesn’t get lonely.

But now it seemed like he’s been socializing with Mingyu. It might be slow and almost none existent at the moment though, but she really hoped the two could become friends, good friends even… because he can’t just live the rest of his life only relying and trusting her. He needs more than one true friend, right?

“Hey,” her thoughts were interrupted when Won Woo spoke at the kitchen entrance, he was leaning on the wall with folded arms, “what do you want for dinner?”

“Oh!” She turned in her seat and rested her head along the couch’s top. “Take out!”

“Really?” He chuckled at her bright expression for unhealthy food. “Jeonghan is going to be so upset if he finds out I bought you take out before him.”

“Shhh, it’ll be our secret!” She ducked behind the couch with her eyes peeking over at him.

“Okay.” He smiled at her for a few short seconds before returning to the kitchen to look at the several takeout menus stored in one of their drawers.

This would be the part when Won Woo would look up at you and say “Don’t judge us, we’re college students…” and you’d reply with a small laugh “that’s no excuse.” Won Woo was glaring at nothing in particular for a second before returning to his task at hand(he was glaring at you, dear reader, jk).

About 25 minutes later the food arrived and they were chowing down on their food as they watched some TV for entertainment. Both laughed a few times when something funny played on the screen while mumbling to each other a few times to pass something over to the other, for the most part they were quiet from focusing on the program that was on. At one point, Won Woo turned to ask her something.

“How are things with Jeonghan?”

“Hmm?” She looked at him while up a noodle. “Why?”

“I can’t ask my friend of 15 years how her relationship is going with her boyfriend? I want to make sure he’s treating you right.” Won Woo looked down to his almost empty takeout bowl. There were a few bites left. Naturally he was going to be protective of his best friend.

“I would say we’re doing fine, though…” she trailed off, a small scowl showing up on her face.

“Though?”

“I checked my facebook earlier. Seems like he spent time with his boyfriend today at lunch and the mall.”

Won Woo could only laugh at her pouting face. Jeonghan really doesn’t have a boyfriend, but Soo Min would disagree. She was referring to their friend Hong Jisoo, who has been friends with Jeonghan for about maybe 5 years now, since high school. They’re pretty much best friends, but Soo Min sees it another way. They’re so close, too close with each other that now she sometimes calls Jisoo the other woman.

“What a two timer.” Won Woo joked, playing along with her silly antics.

“I know, right!” Soo Min complained, stabbing at her food now. She was getting jealous.

“I’m sure Jeonghan will take you out once you’re all better.”

“But in the meantime he’s taking his other lover out!” She pouted. “Must be nice to have two lovers…”

“You’re so bitter.” Won Woo laughed.

“He posted pictures on facebook… like obviously he wanted me to see!” She began to whine.

“Did you put a like on them?”

“Of course! My boyfriend’s in the picture, I have to!”

“Did you comment?”

Awh, looks like you had fun! Smiley face.” She continued to stab away at her food.

“You’re not mad.” Won Woo said with an amused smile. “You’re not jealous either.”

“What are you going on about?” She eyed him from her seat, her stabbing motions coming to a stop.

“You secretly love it… you secretly ship those two together so it doesn’t even really bother you, but you act like it does. I see right through you, Chae Soo Min.”

“W-What?!” She tried to feign shock and confusion but it wasn’t working.

“I bet you secretly wished they were a thing.” He said with a teasing grin.

“N-No I don’t!”

“You’re a kpop fan, it’s no surprise that you’d ship your own boyfriend with his good looking friend.” He continued to tease, making her pouting increase.

“Yah! Stop!”

“You probably fantasize about them, too.” There was no stopping him.

“Shut up!” He could see her cheeks visibly turning red from the embarrassment, it was so cute!

“You’re such a fangirl.” He chuckled while shaking his head.

“You’re right, I am.” She admitted folding her arms across her chest after setting her empty takeout bowl down on the coffee table. “Guess who I started shipping a few days ago?” She then gave a challenging look. He frowned at her words, suddenly not liking where this was leading too. “My best friend and the convenience store clerk. Won Woo and Mingyu. WonGyu! MinWoo! I haven’t decided your ship name yet.”

“Yah!” He glared. “Don’t ship me with a stranger!”

“He’s not a stranger if you know his name!” She started to back. “Besides, I think you two look cute together, friendwise or not.”

“I’m done talking about this.” He returned to eating his food.

“Of course you are!” She laughed. “All fun and games until it’s you getting teased!”

“Whatever, finish your food.” He rolled his eyes. She only giggled quietly to herself before doing as told.

They finished up their food shortly after before heading to bed since it had gotten late from all that teasing. Soo Min a bit more as they were cleaning up and she almost got hit for it! But she managed to dodge his headlock like a pro, because this happened often. Eventually things calmed down and they headed to their respective rooms to sleep for the night.

“Dream of Mingyu~!” Soo Min called over to Won Woo who was entering his room. She quickly shut her door and locked it before he could come and strangle her. Won Woo sometimes doesn’t know how he puts up with her?

...

It was about midnight when Won Woo got out of bed after tossing and turning in his bed for the past hour, unable to sleep from the annoying pain pulsing from his right injured eye. It wasn’t a huge problem during the day, but right now it was. He had forgotten to take some medicine for it earlier and headed to the bathroom to get some from the medicine cabinet only to find out the bottle was empty, or well there was only one pill left. It was probably not enough to take the pain away effectively. He let out a small sigh before he decided he probably should go out and get some more if he wants to sleep at all tonight.

He headed to the front door after he slipped on his hoodie and made sure his hair was styled to conceal his painful looking bruised eye before pulling the hood over. Now he looked like an Idol trying to be secret in public when he looked at his surroundings on his way to the convenience store. He finally made it there a few minutes later and after he entered, he froze.

“Oh, hey, Won Woo.” Mingyu smiled in greeting from the register.

“Uh… hi.” He mumbled before making his way over.

He wasn’t sure why that was the first thing he thought to do. He was here for painkillers, not for the clerk! He wasn’t liking how his body kept betraying him by walking him over to Mingyu when it should be walking him to the medicine aisle. He didn’t like how his voice came out a little awkward and shy when he spoke. He didn’t like how he banged his knee against the counter when he came up to greet him.

He didn’t like how he was feeling completely humiliated again, making a fool of himself in front of this guy… again! What is wrong with me?!

“How’s your eye?” Mingyu asked before pointing to his almost concealed face. “Does it hurt a lot?”

“Not really.” This time Won Woo managed to get the words out in an even and non-awkward tone. “But enough to keep me awake at night. We were out of pain meds, so I came to get more.”

“Ah, I see.” Mingyu nodded, the smile on his face never fading.

“Uh… by the way.” Won Woo said before looking around to see they were alone yet again. Why is it like this all the time?!

“Yes?”

“What days do you work here? I’m always seeing you every time I come here…”

“Is that a bad thing?” Mingyu teased with a small frown.

“No! Of course not, I was just wondering… you’re in school and…”

“Most of my classes are in the afternoon. I work the late evening shift, 10pm-2am Monday thru Thursday.”

“Ah, I see…” Won Woo nodded at the information. Late shifts, huh?

“Do you?” Mingyu chuckled while pointing at his covered eye, he was joking with him. The sound of Won Woo’s light chuckle made the clerk pause for a second, he was wondering if he really heard it just now.

“What?” Won Woo asked when he noticed Mingyu staring at him strangely.

“Oh!” He quickly snapped out of it. “I uh… if you don’t mind, what’s your class schedule? Jeonghan says we attend the same college but I never see you around.”

“I have two morning classes and two afternoon classes. I’m usually at the campus from 10am to 2pm Mondays and Wednesdays. As for Tuesdays and Thursdays, it varies… sometimes I stick around and wait for Soo Min. She has an evening class on those days, so sometimes I’m there from 12pm to 8pm.”

“Really? What do you do to pass time?” Mingyu seemed really curious. What does a cool guy like Won Woo do to pass time?

“Homework.”

“Oh, a nerd, huh?” That was a little anti-climatic now, wasn’t it?

“Yah!” Won Woo frowned, he had never been called that before in his life! Probably because he didn’t look like one and know one knew him enough to know that anyway.

“Just kidding!” Mingyu laughed, he found it cute the way he was pouting just now. “That’s good, I wish I had enough willpower to do homework to pass time…”

“Procrastinator?” Won Woo asked and Mingyu nodded. “Soo Min’s the same way, I always have to remind her to do her homework otherwise her boyfriend chews me out about it. Like it’s my fault. If he wants to blame someone, I say blame those Kpop companies for launching so many good looking Kpop Idols. When she’s not drooling over her boyfriend, she’s drooling over her biases.” Won Woo’s words earned a laugh from Mingyu which naturally made Won Woo join him in the small action. “What’s your excuse?” He then asked, catching the clerk off guard with his question.

“Oh… uh…” he mumbled out before starting to look embarrassed. “My friends like to mess around a lot and always succeed in dragging me into it 90% of the time.”

“Messing around?” Won Woo asked with a tilt of his head. He’d like to think he knew what that meant but when you only have one friend for the majority of your life… he wondered if he and Soo Min had ever messed around before?

“I live with three other guys, my friends,” Mingyu began to explain, “they’re always being loud and messing around instead of doing their homework or studying. It still gets done, which baffles me sometimes… how did they finish 8 hours of work in 5 minutes, you know?”

“Wow.” Fooling around sounded very unproductive, as it is!

“They always somehow talk me into joining their shenanigans… I hate it.”

“That’s not what you said last night, lover boy!” A voice suddenly came from behind Won Woo. When they turned to look at the source, there stood a guy with slightly long blonde hair tied back in a low pony tail. And standing beside him with his arm over his shoulder was Mingyu’s worst nightmare. Seokmin.

(Back again for more snacks, bish)

“Guys! What the.. what are you doing here?! Go away!” Mingyu came rushing around the counter and began pushing them as far away as possible from Won Woo who now looked beyond confused.

“What do you mean what are we doing here? We’re paying customers!” Seokmin chuckled before he started to eye Won Woo. “Ah, is that him?” He asked before quickly turning to the blonde and whispered. “It’s him, the one I was telling you about earlier!”

“Hyung!” Mingyu complained, trying to stop their cliché reactions.

“The one our Mingyu wants to have babies wi-?!”

“Yah!” Mingyu slapped his hand over the blonde’s mouth at the speed of light. “If you say another word, I swear I will cut up all your headbands when I get home.” He quietly threatened the guy who stilled in his hold like he was taking his threat literally.

“No! Not my headbands! I need those!” He shouted once Mingyu let him go.

“You don’t have to shout!” Mingyu scolded, covering his ear that got a direct blow from his loud voice.

“Look at you, getting all worked up by us just being here.” Seokmin teased with a huge grin on his face. “You can relax, we’ll behave… for now.”

“I can’t trust you two!” Mingyu gave a defeated sigh, ruffling his hair before looking back at Won Woo who was reading the label on the medicine he was trying to buy.

“Honestly! Go ahead and go do your magic! We’ll be waiting over here!” Seokmin gave him a small push back towards the register. “Go, hurry, he’s waiting for you.”

“Go, lover boy, go!” The blonde cheered.

“Stop calling me that!” Mingyu shot the blonde another glare before returning to the counter.

“Oh, they grow up so fast.” The blonde, Kwon Soonyoung but known as Hoshi to his friends, put a hand to his chest as he watched Mingyu ring up Won Woo’s items, mumbling a few words to him before the latter left the store.

“It’s okay, darling, it’s okay.” Seokmin joked, the blonde’s head with a small laugh.

“To think just yesterday he called me eomma… now he’s running off to get married… I need a tissue!” Soonyoung fanned his eyes before breaking out into laughter as Mingyu was giving them both a deadly glare.

“I’m going to murder you in your sleep…” he mouthed to them with that evil expression.

“At least let us attend the wedding first!” Seokmin placed his bag of chips onto the counter for Mingyu to scan. He grabbed it tightly, crushing the chips inside when he smashed it into the shopping bag.

“Uh… maybe I’ll get something different to drink…” Soonyoung muttered, stepping away from the counter with his bottle of coke.

There was about thirty minutes left before Mingyu’s shift would be over. His friends had left a long time ago and there were hardly any customers coming in at this hour, it being 1:30am in the morning on a Tuesday. Can’t I just leave early? He thought to himself before he heard the bell at the front door ring and alert a new customer. He looked over to greet them before he paused. He was surprised to see it was Won Woo again.

“Uh, hi, again.” Won Woo muttered while coming up to the counter.

“Hi.” Mingyu managed to say one Won Woo was standing in front of him. Meeting Won Woo twice in such a short amount of time, he wasn’t prepared for this at all.

“Uhm…” Won Woo said quietly before looking back at the snack aisle. “Do you know when you’ll be restocking the snack aisle, particularly the Choco Pies?”

“Choco Pies?” Mingyu asked, clearly confused on where this was going.

“Yeah…”

“Uhm, I think they’ll be stocked later by someone else this morning?” He answered. “Why?”

“Well, could I… buy any chance, buy all the Choco Pies you have in the store currently?”

“You want to buy all of them?!” Mingyu almost laughed, but Won Woo looked so innocent and serious at the same time. It was cute.

“Can I not?” He asked with a worried tone. Sure, he could actually go to the store later to buy way more, but he just had to buy them here. He just had to.

“I guess you can, if you have the money?” Mingyu asked with a curious look. Won Woo help up a credit card and that assured him. “All of them?” He asked to confirm.

“Yes, please.” Won Woo nodded with a hint of a smile. It got Mingyu smiling back at least.

“Just a moment.” He said before heading to the back. He managed to grab the three remaining boxes of Choco Pies that contained 6 boxes of the 12 count in each that were from a bulk order and proceeded to put them on a dolly to wheel out to the front since he didn’t want to drop them on the way out. “You wanted the ones on display, too?”

“Ah, maybe not. I’d feel bad for literally buying all of them.” Won Woo shook his head.

“Okay, just let me ring this up for you. By the way… what is all this even for? Do you like them that much?” Mingyu asked while punching in the numbers. He did a rough calculation and concluded there was about 72 choco pies in each large box. That meant there had to be at least 216 Choco Pies in total. (Let’s just say they’re $1 each just for the sake of moving this scene along). The total came up to over two hundred dollars and Mingyu’s jaw dropped. “Can you afford this?” He quickly frowned.

“Yeah, I’ve been saving up.” Won Woo laughed at the clerk’s expression. “They’re not for me, though I might eat some of them eventually, there’s no way Soo Min can eat all of them by herself and I’d rather she didn’t.”

“They’re for Soo Min?”

“Yeah. Today is actually her birthday.” Won Woo said with a cute smile. “She’ll be turning 20 years old, Western age. I thought to dump as many Choco Pies that I could buy on her while she’s asleep and surprise her with a cake made out of Choco Pies. She’s going to hate Choco Pies after this. That’s the plan.” He added with small chuckle.

“Wow, I had no idea!” Mingyu thought that was incredibly cute of him to do despite the kind of character he thought he was. It was actually something his friends would do, too! “Well, good luck! I hope to hear it went well later on from Jeonghan.”

“You just might.” Won Woo smiled. “Are you going to help me carry these to the car?”

“Oh, you brought a car this time?” Mingyu looked out the glass windows. “Sure, I can help you!”

With that, Won Woo took one box and Mingyu took two. The trip to the car went smoothly and Won Woo was glad he didn’t embarrass himself this time. “Thanks.”

“No problem.” Mingyu said happily. “Let her know I wished her a happy birthday as well!”

“Sure.” Won Woo nodded before opening the driver’s side door and got in. After turning the car on, he rolled down the window to tell Mingyu goodbye, but he accidentally honked the horn when he shifted in his seat to look back at Mingyu who let out a small shriek from being startled. “Sorry!”

“It’s okay!” Mingyu laughed. “Have fun~!”

Won Woo managed to stick a hand out to wave before driving off quickly. Damn, why? He thought in humiliation. Why can’t I act normal around him?!

It was 8am when Soo Min woke up after hearing a strange noise. It sounded like someone had come into her room, more than one person, actually. What was that? She thought to herself before shifting to turn in her bed to face the door. In a split second, she could see the door was open and there were other figures standing in the doorway and there was one particularly too close, like, right at her bedside and it scared the living daylights out of her, but she only flinched and couldn’t scream.

“Oh no, babe!” Jeonghan laughed with an apologetic expression. “Your face suddenly got so pale!”

“You scared her.” One of the figures, a shorter figure, scolded. “How would you feel if you suddenly woke up to see your boyfriend watching over you like a creep?!”

“I just barely got here!” Jeonghan defended before someone else entered the room.

“Is she awake yet? Time is ticking, everyone has class soon!” Won Woo said while coming over to Soo Min’s bed with a small tray that had twenty Choco Pies piled up in the shape of a round cake. Two numbered candles were lit in the middle, a number 2 and a 0.

“What’s going on?” Soo Min finally asked.

“Gosh, has she been so ill she forgot her own birthday?” Their friend Junhui asked with a concerned look on his attractive face.

“It’s my birthday?” She repeated, looking at the rest of them who nodded with laughter. “Ooooh.” She looked at the Choco Pie cake before smile. “Thanks.”

“Hurry, make a wish.” Won Woo ushered her before getting smacked by Jeonghan.

“Don’t rush her!” He pouted. “Take your time!” He said sweetly to his beloved girlfriend.

“Well… aren’t you guys going to sing happy birthday? Isn’t that how it works?” She giggled when they all looked dumbfounded for a second. “I forgot my own birthday and you forgot how birthdays work.”

“Saeng il chuk ha hamnida~” The short blonde started to sing. The others joined in quickly after.

Saeng il chuk ha hamnida~

Sarang ha neun Soo Min shi~

Saeng il chuk ha hamnida~

“Blow out the candles now, but be careful.” Won Woo instructed. She quietly made her wish first before blowing out the candles. “Okay, do it now!” He suddenly said to the others who stepped forward and started to dump all the Choco Pies he bought earlier this morning with him. They had been holding shopping bags full of the treats behind themselves this whole time.

“What?!” Soo Min almost shouted when she saw it raining Choco Pies. “Did you know I would wish for this?!” She looked so shocked now.

“You seriously wished for this?” Won Woo laughed.

“Gosh, you two get each other so well, I’m jealous.” Jeonghan pouted. He had thought she’d make a wish about him, not Choco Pies.

“Oh no, it’s so messy in here now!” Junhui complained like a diva.

“It’s not even your room.” Jihoon deadpanned and shook his head. He thought his vampire looking friend was being ridiculous right now.

“Don’t worry, we all know it’ll be cleaned up in no time.” Their eldest friend, Seungcheol, said with a warm smile. He was implying that Soo Min would eat them all before the day was over.

“I’m sure Jeonghan will help her.” Their other quiet friend spoke up. “Right?” His name was Jisoo.

“Of course! I’ll have this cleaned up right away!” Jeonghan said before getting up to start collecting the Choco Pies into the shopping bags.

“Sorry we can’t stay long, we have to head to class now, but we’ll come again later, okay?” Seungcheol mentioned at the door with a small wave.

“Got it! School comes first!” She nodded with a small smile. “Have fun!”

“I’ll come home right after class, okay?” Won Woo spoke up while tossing a Choco Pie at her.

“Okay, go learn something great!” She cheered while waving to the rest of them before noticing her boyfriend was still cleaning up all the Choco Pies. “That’s okay, I can handle the rest. You should go before you’re late to class.” She pulled back the covers so she could get up.

“I got it! I’m not going to class today.” He assured her while stopping her from getting up.

“Why not?” She frowned.

“Just don’t feel like it.” He shrugged with a small chuckle. “I’ve got other important things to do anyway.”

“Like?” She raised a brow.

“Spending the day with my adorable girlfriend!” He smiled brightly her way and she snickered with a blush on her cheeks. “I don’t want you to be alone on your birthday!”

“It’d only be for a few hours.”

“That’s still too long!” He whined and that had her laughing at how clingy he was sounding. “Don’t worry, I’ll ask Mingyu to let me know what I missed in class.” He added before returning to his cleaning task.

“Ah, right. You have class with that clerk from the convenience store.” She muttered while watching him clean. “So… uhm…”

“Yes?” He asked after hearing her trail off with her words.

“Do you know anything about that Mingyu?” She asked, clearly curious.

“Hm, other than he’s a total giant next to me?” He said with a small pout. “He’s so tall but he’s younger than me!”

“He’s younger? Like how much younger?”

“Why? Are you interested in him?” He was seriously pouting this time. “I don’t want to talk about him anymore now.”

“Tch, easily jealous, I swear.” She shook her head and rolled her eyes but it wasn’t in a serious way, more like a funny kind of way. “I’ll be back.” She said before getting up this time to go use the bathroom.

“Where are you going?” He asked when she made it to the door.

“To meet the toilet. Don’t be jealous~!” She teased and laughed at his unamused expression.

“What’s wrong, Mingyu?” Soonyoung asked his friend who was spacing out at the cafe table in the main college building. “Did something happen?”

“Huh?” Mingyu snapped out of it before seeing his small group of friends surrounding him with worried looks on their faces. “What is it?”

“You seem a little down? Did you get scolded in class or something?” Seungkwan asked.

“No. I was just wondering where one of my classmates were. He didn’t show up today… there was something I wanted to ask him.”

“Like what?”

“It’s nothing. It’s class related, don’t worry about it.” Mingyu shook his head, hoping they’d drop the topic. He shouldn’t tell them what it was about or he’d get teased! “I’m going to head to my next class.” He said after checking the time on his phone.

“Wait, did you eat?” Seungkwan stopped him.

“I did.” He nodded with a small smile. “You guys be sure to eat before going home.” He added before officially turning to leave the table. He knew they started to gossip about him once he was out of the building judging by the way he started to sneeze! How many was that? Two? Are they talking bad about me?! He thought in irritation before he noticed someone standing nearby.

“Are you okay?” It was Won Woo!

“I’m fine.” Mingyu quickly said with a small laugh. “It’s so bright outside today, that’s probably why.”

“Really?” Won Woo looked confused for a second before he realized what he was talking about. “Oh, right. That happens to me too, sometimes.” He gave a small awkward laugh. He hated how slow he was about that.

“So… how did it go? Did you surprise her with all the Choco Pies yet?” Mingyu changed the topic before the silence could get any more awkward.

“I did. With all of our other friends. She was pretty happy.” Won Woo explained with that cute smile. Mingyu thought it was adorable, he seemed happy that he asked him about her.

“I see, I’m glad it went well. I was really curious since Jeonghan didn’t show up to class earlier.”

“He didn’t?” That cute smile faded instantly.

“Yeah. Is that bad?”

“I guess he stayed behind with Soo Min. He tends to get pretty clingy when they’ve been separated too long.” Won Woo said with a small irritated laugh. “Though I don’t approve of skipping class for such a thing.”

“Right, I wouldn’t approve either!” Mingyu said in agreement. “But the semester just started, so I think it’s fine for today.”

“True.” Won Woo nodded before a small silence fell upon them. That’s when Mingyu’s phone buzzed in his hand and he glanced down to see the alarm that was reminding him he had class in five minutes.

“I should get to class!” He blurted out. “It was nice bumping into you on campus for once. I hope we meet again more often!” He said with that charming smile before he waved and sprinted off to the next building, leaving Won Woo standing there a bit stunned. He was mesmerized by that charming smile and it wasn’t until Jihoon snapped his fingers in his face to get him to snap out of it.

“What are you doing zoning out in the middle of the campus for?” He asked.

“Oh, nothing.” Won Woo managed to say before looking down to his friend.

“Classes are over, let’s go to the mall and pick up a present before we go back to your place, sound good?” Jihoon suggested and Won Woo was in total agreement. “Any idea on what we should get her this year?”

“I don’t know what else she could possibly want besides Choco Pies.” Won Woo chuckled.

“Then I guess we don’t need to waste more money on anything else.” Jihoon snickered while opening the door of the main building for them. After traveling through the building and making it to the entrance they were met with the rest of their friends who were waiting for them. They then headed to Seungcheol’s car and left the campus.

“Did you have fun with your boyfriend while everyone was at school?” Won Woo asked after they finished cleaning up the apartment from the small little birthday party that happened hours ago. Won Woo and the others had stopped by the take out place they always eat from and brought home a ton of food to eat together with the birthday girl. Even if it wasn’t well planned or that fancy, Soo Min was quite happy with it because she got to spend it with the people she loved.

“I suppose.” She said with a small laugh. “All we did was watch TV and talk until you guys showed up.”

“None of that funny business went down, right?” Won Woo narrowed his eyes at her.

“No.” She frowned. “I’m not well enough for that stuff yet.”

“Good. Take your time on getting better.” He said, looking quite pleased. He always gave her a difficult time when it came to her boyfriend.

“We talked about Mingyu while you were away.” She said to get her revenge. “But it was only for a few seconds because Jeonghan got jealous since I was asking about another guy.”

“Good.” Won Woo said bluntly.

“Did you see him today?” She decided to ask and watched him become silent. That was an obvious yes. “Too bad I couldn’t go to school today. I would have invited him to that sudden birthday party.”

“Why?”

“Why? Because he’s nice!” She laughed at his quick reply. “And I thought we were becoming friends?”

“Right.” Won Woo nodded, feeling bad for reacting too quickly. It wasn’t like he didn’t like Mingyu, he just didn’t like getting teased about it is all. “There’s still time before your birthday is over…”

“Huh?” She asked before she was pulled up out of her seat and guided over to the front door. He told her to put her coat on and he grabbed the car keys hanging by the door.

“Awh, why the long face?” Soonyoung asked after he came up to the counter with Seokmin. They were buying snacks since they liked to come visit their roommate during work hours.

“Nothing.” Mingyu quickly snapped out of it and started to scan their items.

“Are you sure?” Seokmin asked after Mingyu handed him the leftover change from paying.

“Yes.” He nodded before shooing them away like he was annoyed.

“Sheesh, we’ll see you at home then!” Soonyoung chuckled and left with Seokmin. Mingyu sighed now that he was left alone again.

He had been thinking about his encounters with Won Woo from today. From when he came in for the pain medicine, to buying all of those Choco Pies. Then at school for a brief few minutes. The bruising on his face had faded a bit since then and he was glad it was going away, but he couldn’t help but be worried about the guy. He wondered if he’d see him again today, before the night is over…?

The bell at the door suddenly dinged and alerted a new customer. He was about to welcome them before he noticed who it was and smiled. “Good evening, birthday girl!” He happily greeted. “And Won Woo.”

“Hi!” Soo Min beamed as she walked over to the counter with Won Woo following close behind. “I guess Won Woo told you it was my birthday today, right?” She said before eyeing her best friend with a knowing look.

“He did, when I was on my shift earlier this morning.”

“Really?” She seemed surprised that they had met more than once today.

“That’s where all those Choco Pies came from.” Mingyu laughed at her expression. “Speaking of Choco Pies, just a moment.” He said before coming around the counter and left to grab one from the snack aisle. When he got back, he scanned it and pulled out a bill from his pocket to pay for it. “Here, I know it’s only one, compared to over 200 that you got from your crazy best friend there.” He said with a hint of laughter when Won Woo pouted. “Happy birthday, Soo Min.”

“Awww~! Thank you!” Soo Min cooed while accepting the treat. “I didn’t get to come to school today since I wasn’t really over my cold yet, but if I had, I would have invited you to the birthday dinner we had!”

“That’s okay, next time.” He assured her.

“Right, next time!” She said happily before looking over to Won Woo who was caught smiling at Mingyu. “Oh, excuse me, my boyfriend is calling!” She blurted out while placing the Choco Pie Mingyu gave her to her ear and ran out of the store to the car.

“Again?” Won Woo half laughed and half sighed in defeat.

“She’s adorable!” Mingyu gushed. “I take it you didn’t tell her happy birthday for me and instead brought her here for me to say it in person?”

“Exactly. You’re welcome.” Won Woo nodded and averted his eyes to the other items on the counter. He was getting nervous now.

“Thanks, Won Woo.” Mingyu said softly, causing him look up and stare. “You can go home now.”

“... uh, okay. Goodnight.” Won Woo managed to say before turning to leave quickly. Mingyu just watched him leave the store with a smile on his lips. He laughed when he saw Won Woo banging on the passenger side door’s window like he was irritated that his friend locked him out. Eventually he got into the car and they drove off. He’s so awkward, but it’s cute.

Giant Mingyu… next to Jeonghan and the others lol He’s so tall!

I’ve concluded that I’d stand at his shoulders since my friend from math is 6’ 2” x.x

As far as the continuation I think it would be ok since you will be updating a few months from now. Right now it would seem a little weird, but I don't think it will be bad later. Go with your heart though.
