The Truth
Aldebaran
It was just him alone, again. He wasn't young and ignorant anymore; he was twelve. He knew that something was wrong, very wrong. His best friend was hiding something from him. He didn't know what it was though. Everyone he knew seemed to be throwing sorry glances at him. The Moon and the stars weren't smiling anymore. His parents were showing unnecessary concern. He was the only one kept in the dark, and he had to find out what was going on.
"Hey, open up, Jason!" He knocked desperately on the door. "It's me, Jung Hwan!" he shouted.
The door opened, and there stood a middle-aged woman. Her eyes were just like his or rather, he had her eyes.
"Jung Hwan dear, Jason isn't at home now," she said kindly.
"Something is wrong with him, isn't it?" he asked anxiously.
"Nothing's wrong. He's fine." The woman reassured him, but he could see the tears in her eyes.
"Please," Jung Hwan begged. "Tell me what's going on."
"He's sick." She choked back her tears. "He's going for the surgery in three days time."
Jung Hwan was shocked; he didn't know it was anything major.
"What does he have?" He pressed on.
"Hypoplastic left heart syndrome," she replied. "A con heart defect. He didn't want you to know." She sniffed.
"Where is he now?" he asked with urgency in his tone.
He dashed past the sea of people, and he was silently praying. The skies turned dark, and it started drizzling. The rain washed his tears away; he hoped that it would wash away Jason’s pain too.
