This is us
With love, Chanyeol"Hey Sehun." she calls out to him from the kitchen as she chops away at the vegetables that she was preparing for dinner; Sehun hums in response, his eyes not tearing away from the television screen. She glances at him from the side before turning back to the vegetables, "...a letter came from our school. There's a reunion."
No response. Something crashes on the television screen.
"Do you wanna go?" she asks him. The volume lowers and there's the shuffling of feet approaching the kitchen side of the apartment, Sehun walks past her heading for the fridge and opens it to get another can of soda, "do you wanna go?" he asks her as he pulls out a can of cola from the fridge and shuts it close.
She gives him a small smile as their eyes meet, "It would be nice to see our old classmates."
It would be nice to see him again.
Truthfully, she had not been feeling the same again since she returned from her mother's house. Sehun hums for a moment before nodding his head and gives her a smile back, "Yeah I guess... we should go then." he then presses a small peck on the side of her temple as he walks by her heading back to the living room to continue watching his show.
Normally, she'd have butterflies in her stomache whenever he does such gestures but after reading the contents of Chanyeol's letter, she wasn't feeling the same anymore. She was starting to really look back at all the years of them being together and couldn't help but think of the what ifs had it been different.
While she had been in such a bliss to have ended up with the man that she's been so head over heels with high school among all the girls that he had dated, she couldn't help but wonder if she had been too blindsided by her admiration for him that she had brushed off her bestfriend in the process of it all. Does she even deserve to be called a bestfriend when all these past years, she had not even bothered to check on Chanyeol just to see how he was faring in life?
But even all throughout these past years he himself didn't even bother reaching out to me. She frowns at the thought, cutting the potatoes much harder than intended making the knife hit the board too loud. But then again, she felt like she sounded selfish and inconsiderate of Chanyeol's feelings.
Ofcourse, he had to distance himself.
She tried visiting his old home while she was at her mother's place but only to find out that it was no longer his parents occupying the home there. They had moved already some years ago and no one knew of their whereabouts -she was hoping to atleast find out from his parents how he was but that was impossible already.
So the only way to find out now is to come to the reunion... even though she's not even sure if he'll be there.
When dinner was served, she called Sehun to the table and the latter was yet again dumbfounded to find a cake in the middle. He swallows hard and looks at her but this time she wasn't even bothered by the clueless look that he had, she had expected it already ofcourse -he had forgotten her birthday... again.
"I'm really sorry, baby." He apologizes as he rounds the table and hugs her from behind; she only sighs and gives him a weak smile, "I'm used to it, Sehun... come let's eat."
"I'll make it up to you..." he presses a kiss on her head, "I promise."
But she doesn't even trust his promises anymore.
