Beautiful Things Are Swift

Beautiful Things Are Swift

Stop, stop, stop, stop…

Oh, yes.

He wants it to stop.

Chasing desperately after an ephemeral spirit.

The glowing figure is swift, turning corners so quickly he thinks he may lose him.

But he does not.

“Wait!” he cries, reaching out.

His fingertips brush the evanescence, just barely.

A whirl of colors, a rush of sounds.

And he is taken back.

---

He opens his eyes to a remarkably clear blue sky.

Dappled sunlight falls through gaps in the jade leaves of the tree above.

A figure leans over him, smiling, long hair flying in the gentle breeze.

“Come on, Jeonghan!” he laughs, extending a hand.

Jeonghan allows himself to be pulled up, discovering that the boy is tall.

“You’re so tall,” he says dumbly, staring at the other.

“Of course I am, hyung,” Jun says, looking at him weirdly.

Jeonghan can only reach up to touch Jun’s cheek.

Jun’s eyes soften, and he covers Jeonghan’s hand with his own, keeping it there.

Jeonghan’s eyes fill with tears, and he reaches to pull Jun into a hug.

Jun smiles sadly.

And Jeonghan falls through nothing.

Sparkling tears cascade onto the emerald grass, so like dew.

And yet so not.

---

Stop, stop, stop, stop, yeah…

Jun is getting farther and farther away.

“Jun!” he shouts, panicking.

Jun does not slow down.

“Junhui!” Jeonghan calls in desperation, scrambling up from the ground. “Wait for me!”

Jun keeps going.

Jeonghan cries out, a sound of pure sorrow, taken directly from the depths of the ocean.

And he is engulfed, into a world of deep blue.

---

“Hyung, isn’t this cool??” Jun exclaims, reading excitedly from his brochure.

Jeonghan smiles, gazing at the younger with a gentle fondness.

“Oh, Junhui…” he murmurs.

Jun looks up, blinking confusedly.

“Did I mispronounce something?” he asks.

Jeonghan pulls him into a secluded corner and shakes his head.

“You know you didn’t mess up,” he whispers, bringing Jun’s face close.

They stay like that, staring into each other’s eyes, breath echoing in their ears.

Hearts pounding in their chests.

Finally, Jun loses patience and grabs Jeonghan’s face and kisses him.

He has to lean down to do it, but Jeonghan is much too shocked to react.

After an eternity, Jun pulls away, trembling.

“I’m sorry,” he gasps. “I’m sorry, hyung, I-”

Jeonghan reaches up, pressing his mouth onto Jun’s, silencing him.

Jun gasps but returns it with fevered fervor.

Jeonghan leans into Jun’s height, and Jun pushes him against the wall.

“Junhui…” Jeonghan mumbles against Jun’s mouth. “Jun-ah…”

“Hyung…” Jun whispers intensely. “Jeonghan… hyung…”

They continue their hushed, passionate moans until Jisoo finds them.

---

Jeonghan stumbles, clutching his head.

“No!” he screams. “No, Junhui!”

Junhui’s silvery spirit is fading.

Slowly dissipating into the dark night.

“Wen Junhui!” Jeonghan screams, sobbing.

Jun turns, smiling, hand outstretched.

Jeonghan scrambles and reaches for the delicate fingers.

Their fingertips meet, and Jun fades.

---

A night of the darkest black.

A moon of the palest white.

A star of the brightest red.

Two figures of the deepest love.

“Jeonghan…” Jun murmurs against Jeonghan’s sensitive neck. “Hyung…”

“Jun-ah!” Jeonghan gasps as Jun’s lips brush over a certain spot.

“Hyung…”

Jun stops, voice tinged with sorrow.

Jeonghan takes Jun’s chin and kisses him, softly.

“Why are you sad?” he asks, kissing the tears away.

Jun shakes his head.

“Tell me, Junhui, why are you crying?”

Jun opens his mouth to answer, and pitches forward.

Jeonghan is frozen, watching the dark stain spreading over Jun’s back.

Watching him fade away.

Leaving Jeonghan alone.

Stranding him in the wide, wide world.

Stop.

Chapter 1: After the surprising heartbreak of Not Against You, you give us another trip to angstland with this number. Though story-wise I still prefer Not Against You because it had more bulk, this is short and sweet and just poetic. Thank you for writing this.
