Chapter 14

Bittersweet

“Aunty!” Eunjoo cried out happily, hugging her mother’s sister. “I missed you so much!”

“Oh, my little Joojoo. You grew up so much! And you lost so much weight, I can’t believe it. Where’s my little girl’s baby cheeks? Come here, I baked some cookies.” Eunjoo’s aunt held her at arm’s length, then grabbed her arm and dragged her to the kitchen, which was omitting a delicious smell.

“I want cookies, too!” Iseul yelled, running to the kitchen, making Eunjoo and her aunt laugh.

“Wait for me!” Jooyoung ran past the two, smiling excitedly.

“Jungah unnie!” Eunjoo’s mom smiled and hugged her sister, her husband carrying half of their luggage and trying to take his shoes off at the same time.

Eunjoo slipped away and ran over to her father, taking the luggage and carrying it to the living room.

“Thanks, kiddo.” Mr. Lee smiled, and Eunjoo nodded.

“Eunjoo, honey,” The said girl turned around to face her aunt, who had escaped her little sister’s hug. “I’m so sorry, but could you go out and buy some milk? You know where it is from the last time you visited, right?”

“Yeah, no problem. You got the money?” Eunjoo winked and her aunt gave her a sly look, tossing her niece her wallet. “Thanks, Jungah-sshi.”

Eunjoo whistled and walked out the door, slipping the wallet into her hoodie pocket. She was wearing the sweater that Suga gave her and a pair of grey leggings.

She whistled to herself as she walked to the convenience store, enjoying the fresh air.

Eunjoo saw the store coming into view, and smiled. Had it really been so many years since she visited? Her memories of playing in her aunt’s garden were still fresh, even though that was before Iseul had even been born.

She pushed open the door, and appreciated the cool, air-conditioned store. Why had she worn a sweater? Eunjoo was definitely regretting her decision.

“Oh? Eunjoo?” A voice called out.

The girl frowned and spun, looking for the source of the voice.

She was confused when she didn’t see anyone except for the cashier, but shrugged to herself.

Must be going crazy, She snorted to herself.

Quickly grabbing a carton of milk, Eunjoo payed for it and walked outside, still wishing she had worn a t-shirt.

She spotted someone else standing not far away who was wearing a large jacket, wore sunglasses and had a mask on, covering their face.

I guess some people made the same mistake as me- Eunjoo stopped in her tracks. That outfit was way too suspicious, and whoever that was was either a crazy person, or-

“Eunjoo! It’s me, remember? Taehyung! What are you doing in the Kim District?” Taehyung walked to her and pulled down his mask and lifted his glasses to reveal a cute rectangle smile.

“Taehyung-sshi? I-I didn’t expect to see you again!” Eunjoo sputtered out.

Taehyung pouted. “Aww, you didn’t want to see me? I’ve got news about Suga hyung though~” he teased, and Eunjoo’s eyes widened.

“No, I didn’t mean that at all!” She tried to explain, but the man just gave her a sly smirk.

“Eyy, you’re just saying that because you want to know about Shoob-Shoob hyung.” He jokingly slapped her arm, smiling.

Shoob…Shoob hyung? Eunjoo asked herself, then shook it off.

“Well, I have to go right now. But… ok. Come back here at 6:30 later, okay? I’ll tell you then, I promise. Here.” Taehyung stuck out his pinky and it took a second for Eunjoo to process that he wanted to pinky promise.

She smiled softly and hooked pinkies with him. She frowned and looked up when Taehyung didn’t let go, and blushed when she saw Taehyung gently looking at her, a smile decorating his face.

“Eunjoo, you’re so pretty. I see why… nevermind. Ttyl!!” He shouted and ran away, waving.

“Did he just say ttyl? Ok…” Eunjoo whispered to herself, then shrugged, walking back to her aunt’s house.

“What was he going to say, though?”

6:30. It was still a few hours until sunset, and Eunjoo was sitting at one of the tables in front of the convenience store, playing with her fingers. She’d told her parents that one of her friends had visited the Kim District around the same time as them, and wanted to meet up, which wasn’t too far from the truth. Eunjoo wasn’t entirely sure if Taehyung would actually come, but wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t show up at all, because he was a god, after all. He probably had better things to do than hang out with a 16 year old girl, like saving someone. Sighing, she told herself that she’d only wait about 45 minutes and would leave once it was 7:15.

“Eunjoo! Sorry I’m late, I’ll buy you something!” The girl saw someone, presumably Taehyung, bounding towards her. Once he reached her, Eunjoo could see that he was sweating a lot and was out of breath.

“No, you really don’t need to buy me anything! Really!” Eunjoo exclaimed.
Taehyung looked at her skeptically.

“Are you sure?” He asked, and she nodded hurriedly. “Good, cuz I realized I forgot my wallet, haha.”

Eunjoo couldn’t help but giggle a bit. The male was so hard to predict.

“Um, so let’s sit down. You wanted to know about Shoob hyung, right? Well, he’s-” Taehyung had started, making Eunjoo subconsciously scoot to the front of her seat, when they were interrupted by a familiar voice.

“Taehyung, are you here? Why the hell did you ask me to meet you here?” Suga’s voice could be heard and Eunjoo’s eyes widened.

“Did you call him here?” She asked. Taehyung nodded while playing with his fingers, looking down.

“I thought you wanted to see him again, but if you don’t want to, I can-” he was interrupted again, this time by Eunjoo, as she hugged him quickly.

“Thank you so much, Taehyung sshi. This means a lot to me. I don’t know how I can pay you back.” She grinned widely, and Taehyung widened his eyes, then gave her a large smile.

“Well, you could repay me by calling me oppa and going to Shoob hyung right now.” He winked, while Eunjoo blushed.

“If that’s all you want… thanks… oppa.” Eunjoo whispered the last word, then covered her face with both her hands, blushing and running away to where Suga’s voice was coming from.

“Cute…” Taehyung giggled to himself, then lay his head down on the convenience store table. “I ship it.”

“What the- oh, there he is. Is he sleeping? That punk-” Suga had been murmuring to himself and heading towards where his friend was, when he was knocked back by an unknown force. He yelped and closed his eyes, knitting his eyebrows together.

He lay there for a bit, as whatever had knocked him over sat on his stomach, and he could feel two objects next to each of his ears. Suga assumed it was a person, and that it was a girl because they weren’t very heavy.

The longer they stayed there, whoever was on him still panting heavily (yep, they were a girl), Suga could feel himself getting more and more annoyed, for many reasons. First, Taehyung was sleeping, and he could have potentially prevented Suga from getting assaulted, if he was, you know, awake. Second, while the person who was on him wasn’t heavy, they were still on top of his stomach, which was interfering with his breathing. Finally, Suga was wearing a white sweater, and lying down on the dirt would probably leave at least a few stains. Jeez, he could write an essay about why he was annoyed.

Fueled by his annoyance, Suga peeled his eyes open, but flinched when he was met with a curtain of straight, black hair. The girl on him was finally breathing normally and stepped off of the male, making him relieved. He just frowned at her. She seemed really familiar, and he was getting even more annoyed by the fact that he couldn’t remember where he could have seen her.

The girl was sitting in front of him, her shoulders shaking while she looked at the ground, still covering her face with her hair. Suga’s eyes widened. Was she crying?

His theory was proved right and wrong when he heard laughter, but it was mixed with sniffling and many emotions.

The girl finally looked up and flipped her hair out of her face with her hand. Her face was finally revealed, and Suga was surprised to see her bloodshot eyes and tear stained face, but was mostly shocked at who she was.

“Suga,” she whispered, voice hoarse and muffled from her tears, “Where have you been?”
