Min hyung and Park Ji

Bulletproof Boys: Basketball Affairs

“Hyeon-ah! This looks just like you!” Hoseok called from an aisle that was further back in the toy store and an obedient and happy Park Hyeon came running to him. Hoseok picked up a tiger plush toy that was probably half the size of the little boy and gave it to a pair of welcoming short hands. Taehyung came moments later when Hyeon was already hugging the tiger, nuzzling chubby cheeks into the soft hand-made fur.

“Hyung! Not fair! I was about to pick him a Lego set!” Taehyung frowned and Jungkook appeared behind him. “Yah if you guys could stop disappearing that’d be great,” he panted. Hoseok laughed at Taehyung and continued ruffling Hyeon’s hair, making funny imitations of tiger’s roars. The child laughed and giggled, and returned the imitations with his cuter versions.

The four moved around the store to look at more toys and figures, but Hyeon kept a tight hold on his tiger, seemingly to have taken a serious liking to it. They played silly games with the figurines, and Taehyung kept on performing poor imitations of the Barbie dolls which failed, due to his deep voice, but anything to get Hyeon rolling.

The sales girl watched them with a mix of judging and worried eyes because; one) why would a bunch of grown- boys spend their time acting like retards in a toy store, and two) the one with the dirty blond hair looked like he’ll break something soon and might rip of a toy if he’s not careful enough. Jungkook made an eye contact with the girl when she was about to scoff in Taehyung’s direction, and the girl instantaneously gave a quick bow before moving on to other place when Jungkook gave a her a stern look.

Taehyung didn’t realize it, but Hoseok and Hyeon have already walked over to other aisle so Jungkook places a caring hand over the small of Taehyung’s back and whispered, “Let’s go, Tae.” He turned around once again to make sure the sales girl didn’t give any look of judgment in Taehyung’s direction anymore.

Jin watches attentively as Namjoon played chords on the acoustic guitar, corner of his lips going up into a curve when the impromptu melody filled his ears. He’s always loved to watch Namjoon around his comfort area. Jin wasn’t very expert in music, but watching Namjoon delve in it fascinates him. How someone could be so coordinated in creating something new from scratch, a simple beat turned into a mesmerizing song.

“I don’t think the string is tight enough,” Namjoon stopped playing and fixed the strings of the guitar. It was simple enough; he came for a new pick, but Namjoon would never stop trying out new instruments. It was something he deeply indulges himself in, something that he was basically born in. Music and producing flows in his blood, anybody who watched him whenever he’s around instruments would tell.

So Seokjin could. And he liked it.

“Don’t tell me you’re buying a new guitar, Namjoon-ah,” Jin blew air as he straightened himself on the chair he was sitting on.

“Nah hyung. Just trying out, new stuff. My babies are doing fine at home,” Namjoon replied, prominent dimples showing in his cheeks. He never had problem with the older watching; in fact he never has problem with anybody watching him doing his work, but the elder just had a calming effect on him.

And Namjoon also liked it.

Jimin watched in horror as Yoongi stepped into an expensive outlet he’d never even dared to look at if he was just passing by himself. The brands of shoes inside the store looked familiar, but the grandness seemed to double in Jimin’s eyes due to the store’s expensive-looking decorations and setting. Jimin didn’t even bother to look around him and just followed Yoongi like a puppy. Everything looked solid, but Jimin still has the fear that he would break something if he had the guts to touch anything.

“So?” Yoongi abruptly stopped in his tracks and Jimin, who was walking around with his head down bumped into Yoongi’s back. Jimin felt himself gasping lightly and looked up to meet Yoongi’s narrowing eyes.

“Y-yes?” Jimin braved himself, secretly glad that it was Yoongi he bumped into, not one of the mannequins but he was still scared all the same.

“Find yourself a pair,” Yoongi nonchalantly instructed. Jimin swallowed the lump in his throat. He certainly did not bring his money for this occasion. The bills gave by his mom was for his and Hyeon’s meal, and a few extra notes in case the younger of the two wanted to go play something, so Jimin certainly did not prepare to walk in a random sparkly store, being told to grab something off the shelf.

“Yoongi hyung thanks but I did not bring enough money for this and, uhm, I don’t think I could buy anything here,” Jimin spoke in a hushed tone. Yoongi ignored Jimin’s shaking voice and continued walking around, stopping by a shelf to look at a pair of bright orange basketball shoes. He tilted it around to check the details before putting it down on the shelf again, deciding it didn’t grab his attention.

“Just choose anything,” he finally said to the frozen Jimin, before wandering around again to look at other shoes. Jimin just followed him, once in a while daring himself to actually put thoughts to the shoes around him. Yoongi repeated the same manner, checking out random shoes with lazy eyes before setting them down again.

“Park, how about this one?” Yoongi shoved a pair of black overalls in Jimin’s direction. The younger gasped in surprise.

“W-what?” he struggled to take the shoes out of Yoongi’s hands without brushing against it.

“Kid, you should stop stuttering like a girl,” Yoongi said as he rested his on the provided stool. Jimin felt his cheeks heating up at the sentence, feeling both embarrassed and mad by the mocking. ‘Park Jimin, by any regular standard does not stutter like a girl,’ he’d like to tell Yoongi, but the elder beat him to it.

“But you do look cute blushing like a girl,” he teased, a sly smirk gracing his lips. Jimin was at loss at words. Deciding it’s better for him to stop further attempts of embarrassing himself, Jimin actually had the nerve to check the shoes Yoongi recommended earlier.

The padding was soft, and the design was also nice for a black overall, so Jimin kicked off his shoe and tried to put it on his foot. He frowned when the size of the display shoe was a bit bigger than his foot.

“Hyung,” he called, reminding himself not to stutter again. Yoongi raised his eyebrows in response.

“Hyung this size is too large for me,” Jimin complained, almost whining. Yoongi grunted before calling over a sales girl to help them. When one of them approached the pair, Yoongi looked up again at Jimin.

“Tell her your size,” he ordered. Jimin held the shoe towards the girl’s direction and asked, “Do you have this pair in 7.5?” The girl quickly nodded before moving away to fetch the requested pair. Yoongi looked at Jimin with a small smile.

“Wow Park Ji even your feet are the size of a girl’s,” he laughed. Jimin didn’t think it was funny.

“Hyung I’m in a growing phase!” he crossed his arms across his chest and frowned.

“Whatever,” Yoongi chuckled. Jimin thought it was strange that Yoongi’s laughing, because throughout the three weeks he’d known them, Yoongi was always wearing his default face; the i-don’t-give-a-flying- face.

The salesgirl from earlier approached the pair again with a box in her hand, and handed the new pair shoes to Jimin. The boy crouched down to try on the new black shoes, unconsciously humming a happy tune when the article enveloped his feet nicely. He stood and walked over to the mirror on the other side of the store to look at his reflection in the mirror. Jimin smiled when he saw the shoes complimented his feet perfectly but the upwards curve of his lips turned upside down when he saw Yoongi smiling at him through the mirror.

He walked back to Yoongi and the sales girl with a huff, trying to pretend that he wasn’t the slightest impressed.

“So do you like it?” Yoongi rested his chin on his palm, fixing a lazy gaze upon Jimin. The younger let out a small ‘hmph.’

“You can always try others if you don’t like it,” Yoongi continued. Jimin pulled the shoes from his feet and put on his own shoes. He places the black pair on a shelf with a sigh. The shorter of the two proceeded to lift his cap, ruffled his hair before setting the cap back again, back side front.

“No, I think I like it alright but,” he pauses to take a look at the price tag before continuing, “-I honestly don’t have the money for this, hyung.” Yoongi scoffed before standing up and faced the sales girl, who’s been quiet throughout the whole time.

“We’ll take this.”

Jimin was still frowning even when Yoongi literally had the decency to buy him ice cream just to lift his mood up. When Yoongi was about to pay for it, Jimin quickly pushed him aside.

“Oww Park, what the ?” Yoongi hissed. Jimin scrambled to take his wallet out and handed the cashier a few notes.

After getting their ice creams, the two settled down on a bench under a shady tree to eat. Jimin his ice-cream and looked down at the orange plastic bag that contained his new pair of shoes.

“Hyung, you really didn’t have to buy me this,” he weakly whined between eating his ice cream.

“Shut up,” Yoongi responded, the gelato on his spoon.

“But hyung! It was seventy thousand won! Why would you spend such huge amount on me?! I mean, I could buy it myself, one that is cheaper than this of course but my point is-“

“, Jimin shut up and eat your ice cream. I won’t die because of this okay, chill. Think of it as a first win gift or something,” Yoongi muttered. Jimin just huffed in return. The two enjoyed their dessert in silence, watching people passing by and listening to faint music from the nearest store.

“I should give Hoseok hyung a call. Just to check on Hyeon,” Jimin finally said.

After a bit of shouting and screaming, thanks to a certain Kim Taehyung, and multiple ‘sorry’s by Jimin, he finally ended the disastrous phone call with Hoseok after agreeing on where to have their rendezvous. Despite the yellng from the other end of the phone call, at least Jimin knows that his younger brother was having fun and doing well.

“You’re really close with your brother, huh?” Yoongi asked.

“Yeah, he’s just so precious to me,” Jimin answered, smiling as images of Hyeon flashed before him. Finishing his ice cream, he turned to face Yoongi.

“What about you, hyung? Do you have any siblings?”

“Nah, it’s just me,” Yoongi leaned back against the bench.

“Actually, it was just me too. Hyeon is my cousin, but his parents died in a car crash six years ago. Since then, he was not just Park Hyeon, but he was Park Hyeon, brother of Park Jimin,” Jimin leaned forward, a sad smile appearing on his face. Yoongi hesitated for a moment before answering.

“So that’s why you care about him so much,” he finally concluded.

The two fell into a comfortable silence as Yoongi finishes his gelato. Jimin slowly hummed to a tune, and they stayed like that for a while.

“Hyung please, you’ve spent enough money on me already,” Jimin resisted when Yoongi ushered him into an optical shop. Yoongi raised an eyebrow at him.

“Don’t make it sound like I’m spoiling you,” he spoke, voice laced with irritation at Jimin’s continuous rejection.

Jimin let out a yelp (a manly one at that) when Yoongi’s large hand took a firm grip on his wrist and dragged him inside the shop. The younger couldn’t help but to notice how large and cold Yoongi’s hand was, and how the pale skin contrasted his own tanned one.

Jimin tried to put out one last fight but stopped immediately Yoongi abruptly brought their faces closer together.

“Stop protesting, kid. I told you I’d get you a new one didn’t I?”

Jimin flinched at the memory of breakfast in sleek kitchen from two days ago. Yoongi released his hold of Jimin’s wrist and walked further.

“Besides, wouldn’t want a kid who can’t see in the team, right?”

Jimin frowned.

This hyung.

Jimin ended up choosing the exact frame like his missing one, but he didn’t miss another smart remark from Yoongi.

“Whatever to keep that nerd image of yours.”
