Of course where else would you find Sunggyu on Christmas Eve other than walking on the streets, hands buried deep into his pockets, slightly trembling from the cold weather.
“Why are there so many people outside, don’t they have anything better to do, or anywhere else to go?” He mumbled grumpily, looking at the couples surrounding him everywhere, hugging or even kissing happily, and it felt like the world tried it’s best to remind him how he is spending Christmas alone… again. It’s not like he could forget it anyway.

Sunggyu never really minded being single, but at times like that he could feel loneliness silently wrapping around him, and he really wished he had someone to go home to.

Soon the cold was getting unbearable and it didn’t take long for Sunggyu to find himself in a tiny café, and he decided on buying a mug of hot chocolate, partly for it’s warmness, and mostly for the endorphin induced happiness it caused.

Sungjong was most definitely not used to spending breaks alone, far from home, but that’s what you get if you decide on choosing an university in a different city for higher education. Both his friends, Howon and Dongwoo went back to their hometowns to celebrate Christmas with their families and friends, but since Sungjong had exams between the holiday and New Years’ Eve, so here he was, stuck in Seoul, with his laptop, and textbooks as his only company.

His dorm room was boring without his noisy roommate, Sungyeol, and Sungjong got tired of it quickly, that’s why he put his laptop into a bag, and went to a café he discovered not long ago, and wanted to try it desperately for a while, because it seemed cute from outside, and it was a perfect timing to do so. And at least it wasn’t his room, this fact made the place even more appealing.

Much to his surprise, the place was crammed, Sungjong didn’t expect anyone to be there, but he was thankful for the chattering, though he would’ve appreciated an empty table too. The only free place was next to a kind of grumpy-looking male, and it took Sungjong a few moments to get the courage to approach the guy.
“Excuse me, is this seat taken?” He asked when he got to him, and the other looked up from his mug with raised eyebrows, then offered a small smile to Sungjong.
“Ah, no, you can sit here if you want, at least it’ll look like I have a social life.” He shrugged then, and Sungjong couldn’t decide if he heard a chuckle or just imagined things. But he smiled at the other, and set his bag on the table, then got his wallet out of it, and went to buy a hazelnut and caramel flavored cappucino.
“Thank you for making me not having to search for an other place to spend my time at in this freezing cold.” He looked at the other gratefully again, before he pulled his laptop out of his bag, and continued on what he did at his dorm - attempting to study.

How he ended up watching cat videos was a mistery to Sungjong, but he enjoyed it, trying to choke back his giggles but failing miserably in it, which must’ve been quite annoying, because the guy nudged his leg with his own. “Yah, can you stop? I can’t concentrate.” He mumbled, and Sungjong cocked his eyebrow.
“Concentrate on what? Staring at your cup grumpily?” He tilted his head. “Ah okay, sorry, this wasn’t too nice of me, I’ll stop giggling if that bothers you in… whatever you are doing.”
“Thank you.” The other nodded, but after a few minutes he looked at Sungjong again. “May I ask why are you alone? I mean… I thought I’m the only one destined for a Christmas spent alone.”
“Ah, it’s just I stayed in Seoul to study for my exams instead of going home.” Sungjong shrugged. “But you know, I’m the king of procastinating, so I’m just here, looking at cat videos.” He laughed awkwardly.
“Oh. Cat videos instead of studying which was the reason for you to stay here. Nice.” The guy snorted, and Sungjong was about to feel offended, but the other continued talking with an amused smile spread on his lips.. “By the way, I’m Sunggyu.”
“My name is Sungjong.” He smiled back.

They continued talking about a lot of things, themselves, their lives, including amusing, almost embarassing stories, and when the café was about to close - none of them noticed how long were they actually there - they left the place together, with promises of meeting up the next day and the one after that, so none of them will have to spend the holidays alone.
 

And in the end Sungjong didn’t manage to study for his exams, but he didn’t mind it at all. Sunggyu was more interesting than biochemistry anyway.
