Chapter 7
Age Is No Issue.Yuri looked after Taeyeon as the older woman walked towards the staff room, she missed spending time with her so much. She had been busy studying for her exams and Taeyeon was trying to administer the exam arrangements for the students. They haven’t had any dates or even time to cuddle, it was getting too painful for both of them. Though Yuri was practically in misery, she knew when to leave Taeyeon alone.
“Yul… I… I think you s-should go over tonight… You don’t e-even focus d-during… practice…” Sooyoung panted, holding her ears as her knees locked with Yuri’s.
The two were leading the warm-ups since the coach wasn’t around to keep an eye on the team today. Yuri huffed, lugging her body up whenever Sooyoung went back down. She never found warm-up exercises tough but she was having so much difficulty with mere sit-ups. “S-She’s busy w-with papers…” Yuri came to a complete stop, holding her head tiredly, “i-it won’t be right…”
Sooyoung stopped too, looking at Yuri in agitation. “I didn’t ask you to go over and disturb. I meant go over and keep her company, maybe have a meal with her or something…” Yuri didn’t respond to Sooyoung’s advice, she missed Taeyeon more than she expected. She didn’t even know when Sooyoung had got up, leaving her alone in the court. “We have a project to complete anyway, maybe you should go over tonight…”
Yuri stood up weakly, she had been staying at the school hostel for the past two weeks since they had their exams going on and she needed to pull all-nighters while Taeyeon had to manage administrative work as well. She didn’t want to seem overly clingy since she didn’t know the amount of stress Taeyeon was under as a teacher.
“I can’t, Soo,” Yuri sighed, plopping her onto the bench of the locker room. She wiped her sweaty face with a towel, “she keeps trying to keep our conversations short whenever we pass by each other… even if it’s for studies.” Yuri buried her face in her hands, she didn’t want to believe that Taeyeon was avoiding her but it appeared that way.
If only she knew why Taeyeon was avoiding her.
Sooyoung could feel her best friend’s sadness radiating off her and she didn’t like it. Yuri was always so bubbly and energetic around her because that was just her personality altogether. Yuri might come off as icy cold to other people and even their own classmates but when she was with Yoona and Sooyoung, she was like a bunny – energetic and bouncy. She took out the zip lock bag her mother packed in her bag and turned to Yuri, “have a hotdog, Yul… I don’t like you being so sad.”
The thing about Sooyoung and Yoona is that they never share their food with anyone but the only person who could change that was Yuri; and when they do share their food, they deeply care. Yuri never had a big interest in eating so it didn’t matter that much but she appreciated Sooyoung’s offer, “thanks, Sooyoung. I don’t have any mood to eat.”
A frown appeared on Sooyoung's face, she remembered how Yoona told her that Miss Kim already promised that she wouldn't hurt Yuri. Her fingers gripped onto her own towel angrily, she was furious that she had trusted the teacher with Yuri's heart.
And if Sooyoung thought Yuri couldn't read her thoughts; she was deeply wrong.
“Don’t think of doing anything rash, Choi Sooyoung,” Yuri gulped down her water and grabbed Sooyoung’s arm, “I know what you’re planning to do. I don’t want you to go near her, understand?” Sooyoung pouted and pushed Yuri’s hand off her wrist, she hated it when Yuri was the one who stopped her because she was the only one who could change her mind, “seriously, she’s obviously hurting you. You need to wake up.”
The tanned girl jumped off her seat and walked towards the vending machine, but how she wished she didn't when she saw Taeyeon's favourite drink - black bean milk. Her hand froze in mid-air as she thought of Taeyeon holding her favourite drink, staring back at her with that grin which revealed the small dimple on her chin.
“Thinking about her again?”
The tall, lanky giant strode over to her best friend and wrapped her arms around her waist, leaning her chin against her shoulder. Yuri held onto Sooyoung’s arms and rubbed them gently, “Soo, what are you doing?” Sooyoung shook her head and bit her lower lip, “just trying to comfort you.” Yuri cracked a small smile and enjoyed the warmth of her best friend’s embrace.
As their other teammates stepped through the doors of the locker room, Sooyoung tightened her arms around Yuri's waist. Yuri gasped softly but she didn't say anything, Sooyoung was giving off a rather odd vibe today. “Youngie…” Yuri turned around, she gave up on prying Sooyoung’s arms off her waist, “what’s wrong with you?” Sooyoung shook her head ernestly, smiling tenderly as she took her arms off Yuri's waist.
“Noona!”
Both Yuri and Sooyoung turned around, Minho
