Like The Sun, She Shines.

The WenRene Dumps

Wendy was the sun. She rose every morning looking beautiful and radiant; she brightened the world around her and made everything seem even more beautiful. At the end of the day, she leaves such a strong impact on people. To Irene, Wendy has become an everyday occurrence in her life. When Irene heads to her favourite cafe, she sees Wendy speaking with her small group of friends while walking to the same cafe. When she enters and picks a table, Wendy sits a couple of tables away. Sometimes, when Irene is busy doing homework, she can hear Wendy's melodic laugh; her laugh is refreshing and it reminds her of Wendy's singing.

Wendy was the sun, but Irene was the moon.

Irene was a nightowl. She preferred the safety and peace of the night over the hectic and bright day. She disliked large crowds and loud noises, desiring empty rooms and the silent tranquility that came along with it. She leaves an impact on people as well, but whether it's positive or negative, Irene could never guess. It could be both and she honestly wouldn't care-- scratch that, she doesn't care. She only cares about the opinions of people close to her and Wendy.

If it was possible, Irene would most likely lock herself in her room forever, but forever is impossible.

Irene blinked and at that moment, she knew.

She ed up.

Her cup of coffee, which was luckily cooled down enough as to not burn someone, spilled onto another body as she bumped into them on accident. Mentally scolding herself, she dropped her empty onto the ground along with her stuff to help the person clean up.

"I'm so sorry, I wasn't paying attention. I'll pay for a new shirt." Irene blurted out and bit her lip while handing the person a couple of  tissues she had luckily kept in her bag.

"It's fine, accidents happen. But instead of a new shirt, how about you let me go change and you can buy me coffee for a week? Starting today, maybe?" The smooth voice flowed along with a small laugh and Irene found herself stuck in a dilemma.

She spilled coffee on Wendy. Out of all the people, she had to spill it on Wendy.  up some courage, Irene looked up and met Wendy's gaze for a brief second before looking away subtly.

Wendy was way more prettier up close and the girl resonated with forgiveness and happiness.

"Um, sure. Do you want me to come with you or just wait here or..?" Irene picked up her stuff and got out a jacket for Wendy to wear temporarily.

"If you don't mind, can you come with me?" Wendy smiled thankfully as she took the jacket.

Irene only nodded as she watched Wendy put on her jacket. It fit her pretty well and covered the stain. Wendy looked back at Irene and started walking.

Out of all the situations, Irene had to have spilled coffee on Wendy. It was extremely cliche; not only that, but this was Wendy's first impression of her. On the bright side, she would be spending time with Wendy for a week. Being able to even look at Wendy was privilege, but now she actually talked and will continue to talk to Wendy.

For a week.

That's more than what Irene could ever ask for.

"I'm really sorry." Irene awkwardly apologized again.

Irene bowed her head forward a bit and her hair obscured her face. She couldn't handle any disturbance to her emotional state well so everytime she felt any negative emotion, she would try her best to hide her face.

"Hey," a hand touched Irene's gently, but hesitantly. "It's fine. It was an accident, so don't worry about it."

With a single touch, Wendy was able to make her feel warm and cared for. Irene felt a bit more eased but something still gnawed at her. It was strange; a mixture of  affection and nervousness.

Irene wasn't a very open person. She didn't share her thoughts, nor did she tell people how she felt. She disliked it when people tried to help her because it made her feel weak. She felt inferior, and being an independent person for most of her life, it attacked her way of life. Every now and then she might break down, and every now and then her cousins may have walked in and comforted her, but in public, she would never let herself do that.

"Well, we're here. You can come in, by the way." Wendy smiled brightly as she unlocked the door to her house.

It was a petite house. There was a decent sized kitchen, dining room and living room. Irene counted two rooms and one bathroom. Photos of Wendy and other people, possibly her family or friends, were hung on the walls and sitting on the desks.

"You have a nice home." Wendy looked up at Irene and beamed at the slightly taller girl.

"Thanks! I'll be back down right after I change, so make yourself comfortable, yeah?" Irene nodded and managed a small smile as she watched Wendy enter her room and close the door behind her.

Taking a look around the house, Irene inspected each photo with a smile tugging at her lips. In one of the pictures, Wendy was bending over while laughing as she held a snowball. Her outfit was covered in snow and the girl looked adorable. In another picture, Wendy was standing with her family as they smiled at the camera. After looking at a couple more, she had found out a couple of things.

Wendy was from Canada and was two years younger than her.

"Sorry it took a while." Irene spun on her heel and smiled uneasily.

"It's fine. So.. Are you ready?" Wendy nodded and smiled before linking arms with Irene.

"Yep, let's go." Irene nodded a bit stiffly but forced herself to relax.

This is what friends do. She's seen Wendy do it with her group of friends all of the time and her cousins do it with their friends too. Letting out a soft breath, Irene walked as casually as she could next to Wendy.

"I'm really sorry, if this is uncomfortable for you, then I won't do it again." Wendy starts to retract her arm and Irene starts to panic.

"No, no, it's fine. I'm just.. Not really used to this stuff." Irene blurts out and manages to stop Wendy from taking her arm back.

"You never do this with your friends?"

"I don't really have friends." Wendy looked surprised as Irene said it so nonchalantly.

Irene didn't look even a bit sad about not having friends.

"Isn't it lonely?" The taller girl shrugs and they enter the cafe.

"Sometimes? I'm not sure. I prefer to be alone most of the time." Wendy smiles and gently pulls Irene a bit closer.

"Well, I'll be your friend then. I'm Wendy. What's your name?" Irene was startled at the declaration. Did Wendy really want to be her friend?

Before Irene could answer, they were up next in line. Wendy ordered a caramel mocha and Irene order a white flat. Of course, Irene paid for both and the two went to a table to find a seat.

"Irene." Wendy looked confused for a moment before smiling.

"Nice to meet you Irene, even if we did meet by spilled coffee." Irene blushed faintly at the reminder.

Wendy squealed at the sight and Irene felt her cheeks warming up even more. She covered her face and Wendy laughed. Irene felt more comfortable than before.

After five minutes of Wendy's teasing, their drinks finally arrived and Irene let out a breath. Perhaps she could get used to the week.

----

A week had passed and Irene no longer had to pay for Wendy's coffee. They still contacted each other and almost everyday, they would meet at the cafe. They would greet each other before going their separate ways for the day, only to come back later in the day and meet each other again.

Today, Irene didn't feel that well. She still went to the cafe of course, but when she greeted Wendy, her voice was hoarse and she was exhausted. Wendy expressed her concern but Irene smiled and waved it off. The latter knew that she was most likely sick and could probably collapse, but she had an important exam today and her parents even called her to make sure that she was going to take the exam.

While typing on her laptop, Irene felt a body slide into the long chair next to her and she turned to look at the person.

"I think you need to go home and rest, because you look like a mess." Irene laughed a little because Wendy just rhymed.

Maybe, she should just go home if she really is laughing for a stupid reason. Wendy frowned and reached over and placed her hand on Irene's. At that moment, Irene almost pulled her hand back. Holding hands with friends was a new experience for her-- holding hands with anyone was something rare.

"Sorry, was that too much?" Wendy pulled her hand back before the older girl had a chance to respond.

Irene looked at Wendy before seeing a group of students looking over to where she was. Right, Wendy usually came here with her pack of friends. Sitting up straight, Irene smiled tightly at Wendy.

"I'll go home right after my exam today. Go back to your friends, Wendy. I'm sure they're wondering why you're over here." Irene's eyes caught a scowl and glare from a couple of the girls and swallowed a lump down .

"One, you need to go home now, because an exam is not as important as your health. Two, they can wait." Wendy glanced back and the girls immediately smiled.

"But I need to take the exam." Irene should've just listened to Wendy because over the days, she had learned that the latter was even more stubborn than herself.

Wendy narrowed her eyes at Irene and knocked her head lightly. That didn't help with the growing headache and Irene winced before pouting.

"Home."

"Exam."

"Home."

"Exam!" Irene huffed again slightly annoyed and she was sure that Wendy was annoyed as well.

They looked at each other straight in the eye and held their ground. A week ago, Irene couldn't even look at Wendy's face yet here she was directly making eye contact with her. Dark eyes stared at each other and Irene's eyes were starting to burn from the lack of sleep and blinking.

"Home." Wendy groaned and looked away, wiping her eyes.

"No, exam and then I'll go home." Irene stated triumphantly when Wendy rested her head on the table with a pout.

"Fine, but if you faint or something, I'm gonna come over." Irene arched an eyebrow at the declaration.

"You don't know where I live." Wendy smiled deviously and wrote down Irene's address on the girl's homework.

"Perks of being the daughter of the college principal!" Irene gaped at her address and sighed.

She had won the battle but lost the war. On the other hand, she didn't know Wendy was the principal's daughter.

"You're the principal's daughter? And do you even have permission to look up students' information?" Wendy nodded with a slight blush.

"Son Seungwan, Son Hyungwan.. And you don't need to know about that." Irene snickered at Wendy's small power abuse.

"Seungwan huh.. Nice name." Irene let out a small smile of victory at the growing blush on Wendy's cheeks.

"I thought you had an exam to go to?" Wendy cleared .

"I do. But I can't get out unless you move." Irene smiled as Wendy stood up but stumbled lightly as her face turned an even deeper red.

"Sorry. Um, feel better and good luck on the exam." Irene nodded and waved to Wendy before the latter went back to her group of friends.

That was a different side of Wendy. It was adorable, and very different compared to the confident Wendy. Irene giggled softly before heading out of the cafe. Son Seungwan was actually a good name too and it fit Wendy, although it sounded a bit masculine to her.

Trying to push her thoughts about Wendy out of the way, she walked to college with a small smile on her face.

-----

"Bae Irene, open this door!" Irene groaned and pouted before standing up to open the door.

Wendy shouldn't even be yelling. It was an apartment complex, not a house.

Opening the door,  Irene barely got out of the way when Wendy barged into the apartment. Irene sighed and closed the door before sitting back down on the couch. She saw Wendy looking around in the corner of her eye and leaned back on the couch.

"I thought you said you were only going to come over if, quote and quote, I faint or something." Wendy huffed and sat down on the couch next to her.

"Well, I came over anyway." The younger girl picked up a book on the table and read the title.

Irene watched as Wendy looked through the book, reading a couple of sentences before skipping  couple of pages and repeating the process. Hands slowly flipping the page, eyes lighting up after reading something cute, it was all so.. Wendy? Irene didn't know how to explain it. Neither did she know how to explain the feeling in her chest. It was just mere admiration, possibly, but soon it would grow and she feared that thought.

"So, Joohyun huh." Irene furrowed her eyebrows and tilted her head.

Wendy smiled and showed her the last page. There was a name, Bae Joohyun, and Irene crinkled her nose before taking the book back.

"What about it?" Irene placed the book back onto the table and watched as Wendy's smile grew.

"It's a nice name, don't worry. You should use it more." Irene blushed and shrugged.

She used the name Irene because it allowed her to be anyone except Joohyun. In simple words, she's just more comfortable as Irene.

"Maybe."

"Well, I'm gonna call you Joohyun anyway." Wendy poked Irene's cheek.

Irene pulled away and rubbed her cheek with a pout. Strange enough, any contact with Wendy no longer bothered her, except for contact with each others hands. Perhaps she will get used to that.

"So I'm hungry. Wanna order pizza?" Wendy took out her phone and looked at Irene.

"Sure, Pizza's good." Irene smiled.

She'll probably get used to just being with Wendy. The girl seems fond of her and vice versa.

----

"Joohyun~" Irene sighed as she peeked out from under the covers.

It was an ungodly hour in the morning, 5 AM to be more accurate, and Wendy was in her room trying to wake her up for God knows what. She was starting regret ever giving Wendy the spare key to her apartment. On some days she enjoyed it when Wendy randomly barged into her apartment, but over the last few months, the girl had started to come in the morning. She always had this lonely look in her eyes but it would disappear when Irene paid attention to her.

After months of getting closer to Wendy, Irene's feelings have grown into something even larger. It's no longer admiration, it's love and she knows it. Wendy figured out her uality a while ago, asking with a joking tone about why she doesn't like boys and Irene replied something that went along the lines of boy look like lipless sandals.

"Joohyun unnie!" Irene finlly gave up and pulled the covers down enough to pop her head out.

"Why do you come here so early in the morning?" Wendy shrugs with smile as Irene slowly comes out from under the covers.

Irene watched as Wendy walked back to the kitchen and soon enough she smelled food. Grinning, Irene hurry and got ready.

It was one of the perks of having Wendy come in the morning. The girl was a great cook and she took time to make food for her, which was different. Irene was an independent person, but being spoiled by the girl she loved was something she could enjoy.

While walking to the kitchen, she saw Wendy finishing up. Wendy hummed and bobbed her head a couple of times. The scene was cute and it made Irene's chest feel warm and fuzzy. Walking to Wendy, she sat on the counter and saw Wendy glance over at her.

"Almost done." Irene hums as she watches Wendy.

She notices the girl tense up a little and frowns at the sight. Was she having trouble?

"Are you okay?" Wendy smiled tightly and nodded.

"Yeah." Not wanting to pry too much, Irene stayed silent and watched as Wendy finished up making breakfast.

-----

As they ate, it was silent. It was different from their usual morning routine. Usually, Wendy would talk rapidly about something that had happened at school or with her friends and Irene would smile and nod, adding a few comments where it was needed. Today was not the case. Wendy remained silent and although Irene wanted to start a conversation, it was difficult for her.

"Um. Do you like me, Joohyun?" Irene furrowed her eyebrows in confusion and nodded.

"Yeah, of course, you're my friend Wendy." Wendy shook her head and smiled softly.

"I meant do you like me as something more." Irene stopped eating and placed her fork down.

"I'm not sure I know how to answer that.." Irene scratched her cheek and saw Wendy put down her fork as well.

"It's pretty easy to answer.." The younger girl pushed her plate away and rested her head on her arms.

"It's more of I'm not sure I want to answer that." Irene tried her best to sound nonchalant but her voice had cracked a bit.

Out of all the times, Wendy had to ask this at breakfast. It was five in the morning, nearly six now and Irene was tired. The older girl was prone to being too honest when she was tired or drunk. On second thought, that's probably why Wendy asked.

"I'm just curious. I won't hold it against you or anything."

"Why'd you bring this up anyway?" Evading the question, Irene picked up her fork and started to eat again.

This was an uncomfortable topic for the older girl and she was sure that Wendy already knew the answer to the question by now.

"You're changing the topic, unnie." Wendy smiled knowingly and Irene started to sweat a little.

"In short, yeah you're attractive but you're just a friend to me Wendy." The lie came out smoothly and even surprised Irene a bit.

Wendy frowned and looked disappointed. She knew it was a lie but Irene counted on the girl to not speak out about it. She just wanted to be able to enjoy spending time with Wendy even if it was just as friends.

"You're lying. You're such a bad liar, Joohyun." Wendy laughed.

God, her eyes. Wendy's eyes were so expressive. They'd shine when she was happy and they'd dim when she was not. You could look into the girl's eyes and get lost in the emotions that swirled in them. Irene shivered a little and sighed.

Wendy wasn't that happy. She wasn't fooling anyone. The laugh was so empty and the brown orbs expressed disappointment and sorrow.

"You know unnie, I like you. More than a friend too. I really never found myself attracted to a girl and I always labeled myself as heteroual but I don't know what really made me uh.. Fall for you, I guess. You're so different and that interested me. You are obviously having trouble lying as well, so in simple words.. I like you, Bae Joohyun, and I would love to call you mine, so will you go out with me?" Wendy blushed at the end of the sentence and looked expectantly at Irene.

The older girl was dumbstruck. Her heart was pounding, her cheeks were burning because of the out of nowhere confession.

"M-me?" Irene hazily pointed to herself and Wendy nodded shyly.

in a breath, Irene swallowed the lump in and beckoned herself to speak. This was like a dream come true.

"You're right, I was lying. I like you Son Seungwan, and more than you could know. Even before we were friends, every time you walked by, I couldn't help but stare. I admired you and I still do, but the feeling grew and I couldn't help myself. I lied to you and myself because I couldn't take the chance. But now that you're willing to let me become yours.. I like you Son Seungwan, and I will go out with you." Wendy let out a large breath and Irene giggled a little.

She looked so relieved and in truth, Irene was relieved as well. To be able to tell Wendy her true feelings took some weight off her shoulders.

"Oh my God, I thought that I was going to explode." Wendy laughed a little afterwards.

"I'm sure you were, your face was turning really red." Irene giggled and watched as Wendy watched her with sparkling eyes.

"This is a dream come true."

----

"Ow!" Wendy pouted when Irene flicked her forehead.

The girl kept distracting Irene from her assignments. The latter had learned that Wendy always needed attention and on most occasions, Irene held her hand or played with the girl's hair to reassure Wendy that she was paying attention to her. On the other hand, the two were both possessive and could get jealous easily and their personalities clashed sometimes, but that never got in the way of their developing relationship.

"Hey Joohyun?" Irene hummed as she typed her essay out on the laptop. Wendy watched the girl's fingers hover over each key for a quick second before pressing the key. "Do you wanna move in with me?"

Irene stopped typing and looked down at Wendy, who was laying down on her bed. It had been two months and Wendy had already asked if Irene wanted to move in with her.

"It's only been two months." Irene played with a strand of Wendy's hair as the latter shrugged.

"Yeah but I mean, we've been friends for longer but you don't have to move in yet. It just get's lonely sometimes I guess and I wanna be able to walk into your room whenever I want to.." Wendy continued to ramble and Irene smiled.

Placing her laptop to the side, but not without saving her essay, she saw Wendy roll over to rest on her stomach.

"But don't you already walk into my room whenever you want to?" Wendy blushed and stuck her tongue out at Irene.

"Yeah but it's such a hassle to walk over here."

"You have a car." Wendy's face became even more red and she pinched the older girl's sides.

"Joohyun!" Irene laughed and nodded.

"Maybe I will move in with you." Wendy beamed and tackled the older girl.

The younger girl buried her face into Irene's neck and Irene wrapped her arms around the small body. Wendy was also clingy and touchy. She enjoyed hugs and kisses and held Irene's hand frequently. It was cute and Irene enjoyed times like these as well.

Unexpectedly, Wendy fell asleep and Irene was stuck in the position. Slowly, she moved Wendy off of her as slowly and carefully as she could and pulled the covers over the girl. She placed her laptop on her desk and turned of the lights before slipping under the covers next to Wendy. She would let the latter stay over tonight because she had already fallen asleep.

Feeling arms circle around her waist, Irene held in a laugh and smiled, pulling the other girl closer and slowly fell into a peaceful sleep. Their relationship was developing and one day, Irene hoped to show the world that Wendy was hers, and hers only.

But for now, she'll have to stick with being able to have Wendy in her arms.
