December 31st. After meeting up with Kyunsoo and Minseok, I decided to take a walk round the park and wait for the fireworks display that'll happen later at midnight. It was still cold outside but I thought it'll be best to go out than stay at home. Who knows? Maybe the fireworks will warm up my heart. :\

Something was different with the park tonight, everything seems pretty calm and peaceful. Could be because only a few people were there having coffee or just taking a look around.

This was exactly how Baekhyun wanted it to be. Just to be in a place where he could collect his thoughts and sit peacefully without much going on around him. Aside from his apartment, the way the park is tonight is perfect.

He took out his camera and took random photos of the park. He took a photo of the guy walking his dog, a couple sitting by a bench, even an old lady being helped out by a tall dude to cross the street.

He found a spot where he could sit out and wait for the fireworks display later.

"I guess I'll sit here and wait then." he said. He took a deep breath and sighed. *Wish you we're here though*

Head swaying to the sweet song playing through the headphones he walked around aimlessly since he didn't really have any plans tonight.

"Now all I really need is a date..." Chanyeol murmured as he passed by a couple holding hands.

He was right at the crossroads when he noticed an old lady waiting by the corner.

"Ahjumma, I'll help you with that." Chanyeol called out to the lady crossing the street with a bag of groceries.

"Why thank you, little man." the lady said. Chanyeol chuckled. "I'm not really little, but you're welcome ahjumma." Chanyeol replied. "I could see that." the lady laughed. He just grinned at the lady while guiding her to cross the street and reach the park on the other side.

"Where are you headed, by the way?" the lady asked Chanyeol. He scratched the back of his head and thought about the question. "Nowhere really, I'm just walking round." he replied.

"On New Year's Eve? Wouldn't your family be waiting for you?" she asked looking worried. "No, but I'm okay ahjumma. Just enjoy the new year for me alright?" Chanyeol answered then smiled. "Suit yourself, dear." the lady said.

She thanked Chanyeol for helping her out and give him a bottle of banana milk. "A gift for you, little man. Happy New Year!" the lady greeted. "Happy New Year to you too." he greeted back. And the lady turned her back and walked the other way.

Chanyeol had to rub his hand together and hide them in his pockets. "Aish, it's too cold." he shivered. "The park is really pretty tonight though." he said then smiled as he got closer to the park's center: a frozen fountain.

Baekhyun was reading a book when he noticed a guy checking out the frozen fountain. The guy looked amazed at the sight and smiled like a little kid. Baekhyun can't help but smile at the sight. *Wait, why am I smiling? I feel weird.* he thought. There was this fuzzy feeling inside him, like butterflies just fluttering around his chest. Then, on impulse, he got his camera and took a photo of the guy by the fountain. He checked the photo he took and something felt warm inside Baekhyun.

*I feel... happy? What's with this photo? It seems like it's telling me something* he pondered.

"I could've gotten into a better pose if you asked, you know?" a deep voice snapped Baekhyun out of his thoughts. It was the guy he took a photo of.

"I, uh... I mean, uh..." Baekhyun stammered. He started blushing, then the guy chuckled. "I'm sorry. I just found the moment really nice so I just took a photo out of impulse, I guess." he blurted out. "I didn't mean to get you mad or anything, I'll delete it if want to. I'm really sorry, I didn't know you didn't like getting your photo taken. Wait, I don't know you at all. But I'm really sorry." he added. *Woah, why am I nervous now?* he thought

The guy just laughed. Baekhyun had to look down, he felt embarrassed.

"It's okay really, I really wanted to take a photo of the fountain too. But you already took one for me." the guy replied. "Can I look at the photo though?" he asked.

Baekhyun nodded and handed the camera over to him. The guy had his mouth open when he saw the photo. "It... looks amazing." he exclaimed. "You do this for a living?" the guy asked.

"No, it's more of a hobby actually." Baekhyun answered. "I just like taking photos to take my mind off of things." he added.

"Well that's some serious talent right there." the guy said. "I'm Chanyeol, Park Chanyeol." the guy offered his hand and smiled.

There it was again, that tingly feeling Baekhyun had when he saw this guy smile.

"Byun Baekhyun." he shook the guys hand.

"Can you send me this picture though? I'd like to put it on SNS." Chanyeol asked. "Uhhh, sure." Baekhyun replied.

They exchanged emails and then...

"Wooooooooooooow." Chanyeol said, he was looking up the sky with a wide grin. Baekhyun had to turn around to see that the fireworks display has already started.

Sparks of multiple colors lit up the night sky, forming shapes like flowers and whatnot. Some even looked like shooting stars. Chanyeol and Baekhyun just stood there admiring the view.

Chanyeol then stood beside him and leaned in closer Baekhyun's face.

Time froze for Baekhyun and he just stood there waiting for what will happen next. Baekhyun heart was now beating like crazy and he's finding it hard to breathe. *What is he doing?* he thought.

"Happy New Year Baekhyun." Chanyeol greeted. Time resumed again when he did. He had to lean closer because the fireworks wre too loud.

"Happy New Year to you too." Baekhyun replied then smiled at the taller boy.

That night, sparks flew and lit up the skies. But that didn't seem as bright as his smile, the sound of the fireworks going off were not as loud as my heartbeat, and the colors I see were not the reason I was smiling that time. It was meeting him, Park Chanyeol.

My gut feel was right, going to the park was a good thing, haha. It was a great way to start my year.

And it all happened when I took that photo...
