It’s a wonder why humans believe in such useless mythical things, even as teenagers or adults. They believe in light, in pixies and fairies coming to sprinkle some magic on a situation to soothe it all over. They want to believe in mermaids and love stories right out of the pages of a novel or the scenes of some cliche, overdone movie. But why? Why would they want to waste so much time on such meaningless things?
 

I would like to think it’s because they have imagination and creative, that they think the possibilities in the world are as limitless as the stars in the sky seem to be. But it’s not.
 

Maybe humans believe in such nonsense because they are looking for someone or something to blame, something to act as possible light source in a world of seeming darkness. If you could, if only for a second, believe that mermaids existed, maybe you would have hope that nothing is truly impossible and that fantasy is everyday life. That would make you feel better to think so, wouldn’t it?
 

Or maybe it’s because reality is too hard, too cruel, too real to face and they are scared. Scared of the big bad wolf never failing to blow their house down. Scared that the prince might never gone. Scared that half way through a flight to Neverland, they will run out of pixie dust and plummet through the air to their demise. Reality is too harsh for the humans that live in it, and maybe that’s why fantasy exists too.
 

But it comes down to this. Mermaids don’t exist. Pixies and fairies are nothing but a child’s game. There is no prince to slay a dragon, or search the kingdom for a girl with a lost shoe. It doesn’t exist. And in all honesty, it never might. But humans would like to believe that they do, and I will give them that small shred of light, of hope to cling onto before the darkness inevitably consumes them.
