Silent Words
A Writer's Canvas ▬ Collection of Oneshots | fin.for ll0vex3_her (a short angst drabble)
She glanced up and looked into the mirror as she heard the door open and close. There was a reflection of an extremely handsome man, someone she’d known, someone she’d loved, someone she’d cared for.
“Hey.”
So it’s you.
“Hey back,” she replied; inside her mind, thousands and thousands of memories were flooding back uncontrollably. Trying (barely succeeding) to remain composed, she looked at her own reflection and took off her earrings slowly.
“That was a great performance, out there…”
I’m sorry I can’t say more.
“Yeah, thanks.”
We were almost there…She forced a polite smile and began removing make-up from her face. He stood there watching her, respecting a distance between them. He began to wonder why he’d come in the first place.
“How have you been?”
What happened to us? He was slightly confused as to why Jessica was being like this. He knew she wouldn’t have been this way if they didn’t sign on to join a record company.
“Good, I suppose.”
If only I hadn’t given up so easily… If only I went after him.She took a deep breath and turned around to look at him.
He was wearing a sleeveless shirt and ripped jeans. She was wearing an off-the-shoulder loose top and tight pants. They both were singers, soloists, and debuted around the same time, and in the same company. But there was a history behind that nobody knew.
“I see. Listen, I’m sorry I haven’t been able to visit--”
“I know, promotions are extremely tough, don’t worry about it.”
I haven’t seen you in ages. I missed you…
She looked up, he looked up, and their eyes met, for the first time in a long while. She held his gaze softly; his was more intense. Before you could say more, she looked away, turning back.
“Oh.”
But I wanted to see you…
“I think… You should go now. My manager’s going to be coming back in a bit.”
Please stay… Don’t go. Please don’t leave me again…
“Yeah… I’ll--I’ll see you another time.”
I hope.
She hesitated a bit before smiling softly and whispering, “Goodbye.”
I love you.
“Bye.”
I love you too.
Maybe love hurt like that, they both realized. Maybe two people, like them, were meant to be, but fate didn’t let them so easily without a challenge. Debuting in the same company disallowed them to date, but was it possible to go around that rule?
Maybe… But for now, it was the silent words that hurt the most.
