Prompt: Weddings

Additional Character: Moon Geun Young

Never did Jongwoon expect for it to end like this: suited up in a tuxedo, Jungsoo standing next to him making the final touches on his clothes. Jongwoon just continued to stare at himself in the mirror as he let the leader of Super Junior put a small flower in his pocket. This couldn’t be happening! He just couldn’t believe he was going to get married to someone he didn’t even love.

He did love Moon Geun Young, she was his ideal type of woman. But she wasn’t the person he truly loved. She didn’t have brown hair or a silky voice that could cause fan girls to faint. She wasn’t Kyuhyun!

He had always imagined living the perfect life with the younger man, well until they were forced apart by society. He just didn’t think it would happen so soon or so suddenly! He was only in his early thirties right now; that was a pretty young age to get married really – especially for an active idol like him. He was pretty shocked when he received the letter in the post from Moon Geun Young’s parents requesting for him to get married to their daughter. Jungsoo happened to be reading the message over Jongwoon’s shoulder and said that he should as it would leave a positive review for Super Junior. He also said that Jongwoon could not say no to the actor’s parents because they were his seniors.

And so here he was waiting nervously to the call to make his way to the altar where he and Moon Geun Young would soon exchange vows and be named the dreaded ‘husband and wife’.

Jungsoo looked at his watch, panicking when he saw that it was only going to be 15 minutes until the ceremony began. The leader ran out of the room to do his final preparations leaving the groom alone in the large room.

Jongwoon sat down on the large chair in the corner of the room, covering his face with his arms to try to stop himself from crying. But the tears started to flow out from his eyes as he couldn’t contain the thoughts of the uncertain future.

“Don’t cry Jongwoon ah, you don’t want to stand at the altar with puffy red eyes.” Jongwoon looked up to see Kyuhyun standing in front of him. He jumped up, enveloping the younger male in a hug, crying into Kyuhyun’s shoulder.

“I’m not ready for this, Kyuhyun ah.” Jongwoon cried, as Kyuhyun lifted the older man up and sat them both down on the chair, Jongwoon sat on top of Kyuhyun’s lap.

“I know, but we can’t continue this any further. You know that I love you so much and it breaks my heart that you will no longer be mine after today, but you know you can’t back out now. Moon Geun Young really does love you and maybe you will grow to love her in the future.”

“I love you and only you.” Both men stood up and Kyuhyun picked up a tissue from his pocket, wiping the material against Jongwoon’s eye. A knock on the door notified them that it was almost time for the ceremony. Kyuhyun gave Jongwoon one last kiss on the lips before walking out of the room not taking one look back at Jongwoon’s broken expression.

-

Jungsoo postponed the wedding by fifteen minutes after seeing Jongwoon in the state he was in. Wedding nerves as he called it. Jongwoon knew otherwise, but he couldn’t say anything out loud.

So he stood by the altar his hand in his pocket, holding a picture of him and Kyuhyun together. He knew by the end of the ceremony, the picture will be extremely crumpled up, but right now, it was the only thing stopping him from going insane.

He watched as Moon Geun Young walked down the aisle, a smile on her face as she caught his eye. Jongwoon glanced through the audience, looking for the person who would keep him sane throughout the whole service. But Kyuhyun wasn’t there.

Did Kyuhyun really not want to be there right now? Where even was he? Jongwoon felt sick and he felt his legs start to give way as he looked back at the bride with a weak smile on his face.

He tried to focus his attention on something other than the wedding. Like the music. The harp that played soft music in the background to accompany his bride on their wedding. Nope, that didn’t help. He looked at the flowers on the wall, an array of colours decorating the stone walls of the church where people get married. It was terrifying that he wasn’t allowed to say no, he was certain that Moon Geun Young and her parents would hate him forever if he ran away last minute. But then again, he was sure that he couldn’t run because his legs were somewhat glued to the ground and would collapse if he tried to move one of them.

Soon enough, his bride stood before him, a veil covering her face as he lifted it up with shaking hands. Wow. Moon Geun Young was beautiful. Of course she was! She was his ideal type after all. But he knew nothing about her. He had met her a couple of times when he went to watch the filming of Cinderella’s Sister, but they had never formally spoken to each other until a month before the wedding where Jongwoon went over for a meal so they could discuss who would be attending the event and other details. Even then, it was Jongwoon mainly talking to the actor’s parents about this while Moon Geun Young say there fiddling with her food. Maybe she was in the same position as he was?

Moon Geun Young smiled at him before turning to the vicar who was standing in front of them.

“Dearly Beloved, we are gathered together here in the sign of God – and in the face of this company – to join together this man and this woman in holy matrimony, which is commended to be honourable among all men; and therefore – is not by any – to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly – but reverently, discreetly, advisedly and solemnly. Into this holy estate these two persons present now come to be joined. If any person can show just cause why they may not be joined together – let them speak now or forever hold their peace.” Jongwoon looked towards the audience, staring at each member in hope that they would shout for the wedding to be stopped. Instead, he saw stares of admiration and happiness.

Jongwoon sighed as the vicar continued his speech, waiting for the moment where he would produce the rings and he would finally say his vows and lose the one he loved forever.

His attention was distracted when he heard the vicar cough and he turned towards the man in front of him. “Do you Kim Jongwoon take Moon Geun Young to be your wife – to live together after God’s ordinance – in the holy estate of matrimony? Will you love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, in sickness and in health, for richer, for poorer, for better, for worse, in sadness and in joy, to cherish and continually bestow upon her your heart’s deepest devotion, forsaking all others, keep yourself only unto her as long as you both shall live?”

Jongwoon felt his throat dry up as he tried to get the courage to say the all-important two words that would bind the two together. “I… I-“

“Stop the wedding!” Jongwoon turned, along with all the other people in the hall to the man who had just ran into the room. He felt his heart speed up when he saw Kyuhyun standing there with tears in his eyes, staring at him pleadingly.

Jongwoon faced his bride. “I’m sorry, but I can’t marry you.” Moon Geun Young stared at Jongwoon for a short period of time before smiling back at him and nodding. Jongwoon leaned forward and placed a soft kiss on Moon Geun Young’s cheek before running towards the man he loved and enveloped Kyuhyun in a hug, which was reciprocated straight away.

He felt tears fall down his cheeks as he turned to face the other male and kissed Kyuhyun’s lips softly, hearing gasps from all of the audience. But he didn’t care. He was truly happy now to be able to show everyone the person he really loved.

He knew that it would take a while of the news to finally be accepted by everyone. Moon Geun Young’s parents might never forgive him, but he realised that he didn’t want to give up his happiness just for fame. Maybe one day in the future, everyone will forgive him and Kyuhyun for their secret.

But for now, now that he was able to spend this little bit of time with Kyuhyun, he was going to make the most of it. Because that was all that mattered right now.
