Summary: Even after 22 years it still seams surreal.

It was in the middle of the night when Kibum woke up, not really sure what caused him to do so. It was dark, silent and the temperature wasn’t something to complain about. Still there was something missing, and he knew what it was once he turned around. After so many years of sleeping with the other by his side he had come to depend on his presence. No matter how silent he was, Kibum was sure to wake up within a half hour of him leaving the bed.

Knowing that there was no way he was going to fall asleep now he slowly got up and slid into his slippers, stretching once before shuffling out of the room. He noticed the light coming into the hallway from under the living room door and calmly made his way over there. He slightly opened the door to peek inside and saw the silhouette of his loved one sitting on the floor in front of their closet. His shoulders were slumped and his back was facing the door.

With soft strides Kibum made his way to the other and gently rested his hand on his shoulders, letting them slide down his chest as he crouched down.
“What are you looking at?” he murmured. Faces now side by side thanks to the improvised back hug.

Jonghyun was holding a photo book, opened on a page which was dated from 22 years ago. It contained some of the photos that were most dear to their hearts, depicting the first time they got to hold their darling son and claim him as their own.

“I just… I had a dream about that day, and I couldn’t help but wonder if it had actually happened. Even now it seems unreal.”

Kibum had a soft smile at the man’s words, agreeing with the sentiment. Even now that the boy was all grown up and living his own life, they still couldn’t get over the fact of how lucky they had been.  Hit with nostalgia. And now that he no longer lived with them it was even harder to convince themselves it was so.

“He will return from military duty in two months. How about we go pick him up once he arrives and shower him with love like we used to? I’m sure he won’t mind us visiting for a while.”

Jonghyun nodded at his words before storing away the book and getting up.

“Let’s return to bed, shall we?”
