Red Roses - AJ Rafael

A Story to the Lyrics

Based on the song Red Roses by AJ Rafael. A Jessber based story. Requested by sorabozu.

Amber's POV:

Another Day. Another Dollar.

A fresh sent of blooming flowers invaded my senses, after inhaling deeply to start the new day.

My mother had always told me that each individual flower represents the personality and beauty of a person. As floral shop owners, it's our responsibility to ensure that each of our guests receive and leave with the best fitting product.

FLASHBACK

"Amber, it's a gift." My mother stated as her eyes remained glued on the aspiring bouquet she was building for a bride to be customer.

"Huh?" I scrunched my eyebrows to her sudden words, unable to understand what she was directing it towards.

What is she talking about?

At this point, my mom had set the wildflower bouquet aside on the glossy wooden surface top. Her chair swiveled towards my direction, enabling her to address my confusion. She rested her palms on my lap, heaving a deep sigh.

"I said that it's a gift. The colors you see."

Colors? Wait, how does she k--

"How do I know? Honey, don't worry. Mommy knows all about them." She softly said.

"I-I don't know what you're talking about!" I hesitated to respond to her, fidgeting within the small space of the stool I sat on.

"Amber, I promise that what you see is not a bad thing." I could see the look on her face suddenly transition into a gentle stature as she pressed her warm hand against my cheek.

"Mommy sees them too."

My eyes shot open in surprise, as i stumbled over the words to reply to her.

"Do you know why we started this floral business?" She asked.

Curiosity began to cloud my mind, unsure of where she was heading with her question. I shook my head no, anticipating her following words.

"Each flower a person's personality and beauty. Based on colors of their auras that each of them radiate. Just like a flower. It could vary from red to light emerald. When you pair a flower to a specific person, the colors you see illuminate brighter than ever. Leaving a match. Each person has a color. Each person has a flower."

Her explanation left me in awe. I'd always been afraid to discuss anyone about this "gift" I have. Even to Jackie. I felt abnormal. A practical anomaly.

"It's kind of like magic, don't you think?" My mom smiled before turning back to her small work.

Magic..?

"Mommy loves working here, you know? Seeing how each person who come and go, radiate brighter with their personal flower."

To radiate brighter.

FLASHBACK END.

I'd been working in the shop from the moment I was allowed to receive a working permit, till now. Now I must say that I never really understood what my mom said about radiating brighter with their personal flower. I mean, sure it was a blast seeing the various colors that surrounded people, but the great eye blinding radiation my mom spoke of was a myth. The furthest extent of it was the brightness of a candle light.

Amazing.

"What's with the blank face, Llama?" A voice called from behind me, having me lift my eyebrow to the latter.

"It's so boring here, Key. I could be out and about boarding or playing ball!" I flung my arms into the air as I slouched back into the chair behind the counter.

"It has only been four hours since we opened, and you're already complaining? Jeez, toughen up!" He snickered as he continued to stick petty flowers in his hair.

'What a diva.' I rolled my eyes, resting my chin against the cool glass case in front of me.

"YAH! Don't think I can't tell what you're thinking Llama!" The stylish boy shrieked as her smacked my shoulder.

"WOAH! I DID'T EVEN SAY ANYTHI--"

DING

My words were cut short due to the ringing of our store bell, indicating an incoming customer.

Damn, Key. You'll get it from me later.

My eyes traveled across the room to capture who had just entered. But was soon stopped after my gaze was set in stone on them.

Woah. It was either me or this little "gift" was going haywire on me. Was this even possible? How could one person not have one color, but an entire rainbow?

"Uh, hello? Are you even paying attention?" The person called out, waving her hand a inches in front of my face.

Her voice snapped me out of my trance, "Ah, I'm sorry. What was it that you needed?"

"Well, I'm looking for something to decorate my office for this upcoming Valentine's Day. Flowers was obviously the first decoration my coworkers decided on, leaving me to choose. Since you're the expert, I expect you to find something for me. Got it?" Her voice didn't falter in any way, but sounded so determined.

"Y-Yeah." I stuttered.

"Good. I'm Jessica. You'll be seeing me profusely throughout this week to check up on whether or not you've completed my task." She briskly said as she whipped her hair to the side, walking back out the store door.

Wow. Jessica. You're definitely something else.

FEW DAYS LATER.

She hadn't left my mind since the moment she walked in that day.

Jessica.

"Have you found out anything yet, llama?" Her demanding voice resounded through the walls of my ears.

"Er, not yet. I mean did you have anything in mind?" I questioned, in hope of speaking some sort of idea for the latter.

"No. You're the florist and I'm the customer. You should be helping me."

Harsh.

"Well, it is the season of love. So why not something cliche?" I stated.

She crossed her arms and nodded for me to continue in with my explanation.

"Roses?" I bluntly recommended.

"Really? Doesn't everyone get that for this stupid holiday?" She replied.

"You're right, but people seem to always overlook the true meaning of a rose."

The latter scrunched her eyebrows, unable to process what I actually meant.

"A rose is more than just the representation of love, but beauty itself."

Just like you.

"It can vary in different colors, each meaning something different. Almost like a rainbow." I continued.

"Hmm, corny. But I've never thought of it that way." She said. "So what color would you think would best for me?"

"Red." I spoke without hesitation. "The color of true beauty and striking attitude."

For a brief moment I thought I saw a glint of red form against her cheeks.

"F-Fine! Then that!" She pointed towards the stand of red roses.

I run get up with a dozen of red roses, and smiled at her final preparation.

"Thank you, Jessica Unnie. I hope to be seeing you sometime soon." I chuckled as she continued to hide her face from me. She began to walk towards the store door, but just before she completely left she muttered something to me.

"Look down, dummy."

I furrowed my eyebrows before peering down on the counter, revealing a small pice of parchment with digits on it.

Her phone number.

She waved herself off, but before disappearing off on the streets of Seoul, I saw something I was thought to believe was fake.

A radiating light.

Yes, I understand this isn't the best work of done. Believe me I thought this story was quite horrendous. Oh well. As you probably guessed imback! Yay.
